  1. Thanks! That’s a very informative link. time for some Nimbus West now!
  2. My obsession for completing my Mal Waldron collection (and love for Nathan Davis) made me spent the most money I spent on a single lp for this one. But I haven’t regretted it for a second. This whole band is like magic: Davis + Waldron is a match made in heaven, then there’s Jimmy Woode on bass which is one of the most under appreciated bassists I know and well: Art Taylor needs no explanation. The record is mostly in the ‘Rules of Freedom’ style. It’s the most ‘free’ Nathan Davis that I know on record. Sound isn’t very good and I would love to hear if someone like Fred Thomas from Sam Records could do something nice with it. The fact that according to RYM this is the least known Nathan Davis record hurts. It’s really, really good. just listen to that first steamer and then the beautiful ballad that’s coming next.
  3. Yeah I still haven't heard that one. Might do a Youtube stream because I am very curious. Anyone around here who knows something about the Segue label? According to Discogs it was from Pittsburgh?
  4. Yeah me too! Unusual repertoire for him but I am pretty sure he rocked it as Mark mentioned My favorite Shorter albums are Etcetera and The All Seeing Eye but he made so many great records. And yeah he swung and bopped but his ballad playing.... oh my how I love his phrasing there.
  5. this one remains available at Discogs but I’m pretty sure it’s unofficial? It sounds pretty good for a boot and the cover is very nicely done. This awesome record deserves a proper reissue.
  6. My favorite Shorter tune I guess: This while band rocks. I just love that start of Hanock's solo.
  7. such a great series!
  8. with Frank Lowe, Juma Sultan, Robert Bruno, Earl Freeman and the great Rashied Ali. still on the hunt for those other Noah live dates from this period. Pity they are so hard to find.
  9. it’s Wayne day today. Rip giant of jazz!
  10. Oh no! A true legend. He will be missed. Rest in piece Mr. Shorter!

    Tony Fruscella

Yeah. Is it really allowed to accuse someone of being a pedophile based on something some old lady said? Without the accused one around to say something in defense? And this all in a Tony Fruscella thread? Or am I understanding it all wrong trough the language barrier?
  12. Yeah I like him too, which probably doesn’t surprise pity he hasn’t record any more records.
  13. Classic ‘60’s freejazz. Great reissue by BoWeavil
  14. I don't think theres a thread on these yet? I own around ten now and must say I am very satisfied with sound and packaging. New schedule for this year was pronounced this january: March 31 1971 Impulse - Alice Coltrane / Journey In Satchidananda April 28 1965 Verve - Wynton Kelly Trio and Wes Montgomery / Smokin' At The Half Note May 26 1966 Philips - Nina Simone / Wild Is The Wind June 23 1962 Verve - Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd / Jazz Samba July 28. (BG cut classic records) 1958 Verve - Billie Holiday / Songs For Distingue Lovers Aug 25 1960 Mercury - Cannonball Adderley Quintet / In Chicago Sept 29 1961 Mercury - Charles Mingus / Pre-Bird Oct 27 (BG cut classic records) 1960 Verve - Ella Fitzgerald / Let No Man Write My Epitaph Nov 17 1962 Verve - Oscar Peterson Trio with Milt Jackson / Very Tall Dec 8. (BG cut classic records) 1959 Verve - Coleman Hawkins / Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster Jan 2024 1962 Impulse - Roy Haynes / Out Of The Afternoon Feb 2024 (announced by Chad) mono 1958 Verve - Ben Webster / Soulville Now Chad Kassem isn't really known for being an adventourus guy.... I even heard someone say he isn't really into jazz. When he announced the Karma reissue he couldn't even hide his own dislike of it which I think is ridiculous. Thank God the guy was prepared to do one more 'free' record but only if Karma sold well. And of course it did.... So happy to see the Alice Coltrane in the list. I'll get the Billie Holiday record and I love that Ella Fitzgerald record. Really would like to hear those intimate duets in best possible sound quality so I'll jump on that one too. Part from that: a pretty boring list with a lot of usual suspects that I already own. The upside of the series is it's overall quality: I am very happy with the issues I own. The downside is their uninspired program and the fact that they don't a lot of reissues and even then every one of them get's postponed endlessly.... They can't make a single deadline.
  15. Yeah I could see why they are of no interest to the more experienced collector. But as a young fellow who started collecting vinyl about 7 years ago (there is probably no less profitable thing I know…) I am very happy with these reissue series as even the more usual suspects are still pretty hard to get these days. As a matter of fact both Workin’ and Thelonious Monk with John Coltrane were on my wishlist. but I am all there with you hoping on some more obscure titles as well!
  16. Harold Land and Hutch 🥰
  17. It’s a lovely session. I have a Japanese vinyl reissue with different cover art
  18. Nice one! That's a great record. Essential Cannonball Now you're at least sure you have a copy
  19. Great stuff with a young Geri Allen at the piano. How I pity the fact that I never had the chance to see her play live.
  20. Thanks! Is now see I posted in the wrong thread…
  21. school holidays. I am always the one getting up with my sons so every morning it’s jazz time. No vinyl player downstairs. This mornings playlist!
  22. I feel very lucky it’s the Japanese reissue but the sound is amazing
  23. for around 10 euros you get these excellent Impulse! compilation albums that contain music that was later released on new cd issues like Newport ‘63 and Dear Old Stockholm. Elvin was of course THE quartet drummer but Roy Haynes is a great fit too. After The Crescent: hear that interplay 🥰
