  1. on a hiking trip with my dad and brother in Scotland doing the Rob Roy Way. To all the Scotsmen on the board I’d like to say: what an amazing country you live in. The quietness, nature and space is breathtaking and is exactly what I miss in a densely populated country like the Netherlands.
  2. It has Danny Mixon on piano and organ, Calvin Hill on bass and Greg Bandy on drums. It’s a Pharoah favorite being very groovy and accessible but also creative and original in sound. Pharoah didnt sound like an exact Coltrane copy yet but had his own thing.
  3. I buy books but must say they are quite expensive. Philosphy is one of my big hobbies and I've bought quite some of the 'standards' from the genre for the past few years as I am teaching it in high school now as well. I managed to buy them trough my work which litteraly saved me thousands of euros.. With 40 or 50 euros a piece I could see why people go for an ebook instead. From a space in my house of point of view I have the same strategy as with my LP's and cd's: I only buy what I regard as essential. Less essential works I read on my e-reader. I love reading: it's part of my pre-sleeping ritual and try do read an hour a day at least. It's hard to get my students reading books. Video games are a serious threat to both their physical as their mental health. I might sound like a boomer now but I see the consequences everyday...
  4. lovely live record and great sonics on this one!
  5. Frank Wright (tenor saxophone), Bobby Few (piano), Alan Silva (bass), Muhammad Ali (drums) Pretty intense stuff. Must have been quite a show there in Rotterdam.
  6. Yeah I like him too.
  7. Oh yes that's a great one!
  8. R.I.P. mr. Cuscuna and so many thanks for all those excellent reissues.
  9. Coltrane's Village Vanguard Box set is my favorite probably. There's not a single bad note at that set. It's one of the few sets where I really don't mind the fact that there are four takes of the same track on it.
  10. Fascinating record from a Hungarian group recording with John Tchicai. I hear influences by Albert Ayler, Abdullah Ibrahim and Pharoah Sanders. Some free passages, spiritual jazz, free improvisation and compositional music. Pretty adventurous stuff. I’d call this my 2024 discovery for now. Perhaps some prejudice of me but I did not expect a 1983 record from Hungary to sound so good! Maybe they already know it but I am pretty sure this is the league of @mjazzg@Rabshakeh@soulpope and perhaps also @HutchFan
  11. Not sure about the vinyl but the cd is great. CD 2 is amazing and CD 1 is very, very good. Lovely set of music, essential for both Lacy as Waldron aficionados. The interviews with Workman and Cyrille are great and the essays by Hiromi and Evan Parker are a lovely read. Recommended stuff. Another review on my blog after 1.5 years: https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2024/04/1995-mal-waldron-steve-lacy-mighty.html
  12. wow guys this is a winner, what an awesome release. I’d say cd 1 is great and cd 2 is essential. Nice package. Reviewed it on my blog here: https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2024/04/1995-mal-waldron-steve-lacy-mighty.html

  15. R.I.P. Mr. Keys. I enjoy Shawn Neeq highly!
  16. Yeah it’s fantastic. At home from work today as my little 2yo boy is sick . I hope Mal has the same healing power as it has on his father Amazing duets with the great Takeo Moriyama. Pure chemistry really going from free improvisation to pure melancholic beauty.
  17. wow the sound quality is amazing. The guys at Hat definitely knew what they were doing!
  18. Okay thanks for checking out!
  19. How does that one sound? The original sounds nice (for an ESP record). Now spinning:
