    Going Mono....

I don’t think so. The mono grooves are different from stereo grooves. Because the coils of a stereo element are not positioned in a horizontal direction, but at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the movement of the mono groove, a stereo element will not optimally reproduce a mono record. The needle tip of the stereo needle is also narrower than is optimal for the mono record. Id be the first to admit that audiophiles could be very silly but if it was really just about a button or a cable I don’t think the mono cartridge would still exist.

    Going Mono....

Thanks for replying guys. Replacing the shells of the cartridge sounds like the easiest solution but I am always a bit hesitant in modifying my player as I am very clumsy…..
  3. Still wondering where that orchestra is though…. Did they remain quiet for the full concert? 😅 Last one for today. 1967 repress. Funky stuff
  4. The Superior Viaduct reissue
  5. Defenitly. I love Dierdre Murrays cello as well. Its a great record.

    Going Mono....

I was wondering if any of you guys use a special mono cartridge for your mono records? Is it worth while saving up money and invest in one or are the differences bearably noticable? And if you have one, do you have an extra record player for it?
  7. Not ultra rare but definitely not the most easy to find. It’s this one: https://www.discogs.com/release/3728794-Prince-Lasha-Sonny-Simmons-Firebirds
  8. It’s a ‘70’s repress that sounds amazing
  9. It’s mostly the other way around. I’m hoping to find a certain record but I’m not finding it. Worst experience was Berlin where I visited 10 record stores with a 60 item wishlist and didn’t find a single one of them…. Well I found one which after all appeared to be a bootleg version. my last visit to de mega lp cd fair in Den Bosch was more successful. With a more humble wishlist of 30 items I managed to find 9 of the items on it.
  10. With Byard Lancaster, Dave Burrell. It’s a lovely record. Burrells piano is very much out of tune but with these kind of records it has its charm I must say.
  11. Ah I probably leave it on than. The sight of it annoys me a little bit…. yeah mine has the same sleeve but different labels. There were indeed two versions on Calumet. The Japanese pressing was first according to Discogs. That one seems to be even rarer. It was hard enough to track down this French first pressing.
  12. This was the LP that got me into both Frank Wright as Noah Howard 15 years ago. Then as a MP3 file and glad to have a physical copy now it’s in pristine condition but the lamination comes off. Shall I peel it off or shouldn’t I?
  13. Main problem with the bootleg version is that the horns sound terrible and heavily distorted so glad to hear that’s not the issue with the original. I’ll add one to my wantlist then. Will be able to buy one without a cover as the cover replica is well done.
  14. Well if you have any time to give it a spin I’d like to hear your opinion
  15. Prince Lasha with Bobby Hutcherson, Buster Williams and Charles Moffett. Sound of this (bootleg) reissue really sucks. Anyone knows how the original sound?

    Billy Harper

Cool! I saw Billy is visiting Austria and Greece coming spring. I seriously considered to drive 1200 km to see him play in Graz or Wien but it’s just a little too far (it’s 2400km of course as I need to drive back as well). If he comes to play in Belgium or Germany I’ll go!
  17. Stephan Micus - Implosions
  18. Mal Waldron - Candy Girl Bass Guitar [Bass] – Lafayette Hudson Drums – Donny Donable Electric Piano [Fender] – Frank Abel Electric Piano - Mal Waldron
  19. amazing music, sound isn’t the most impressive. TP this one!!!
