  1. Okay thanks guys I’ll get the other session then
  2. Damn I feel like such a fool again. I've got some items in my wantlist that are pricey for they are rare and issued only once or twice. I'll keep them in that wantlist for years hoping for a reissue. Then after a long time, when I see a reasonable but still pricey offer I decide to jump on an original. Live in Berlin was one of them and I bought it only a month ago.... I should have been more patient. I've had the same thing with Curtis Amy's Groovin' Blue where Blue Note announcent it was goint to be a Tone Poet only 2 months after I ordered an original pressing..... But still good news of course, especially for those who don't have the music. This was a particularly strong period for Noah Howard and I really enjoy that record. Also an opportunity to buy Schizphrenic Blues. Anyone who knows this label? Is it legit and to they work with tapes or digital files?

    Steve Lacy

I'm really in a Steve Lacy mood these days so I was triggered immediatly but a little dissapointed by the samples. I really don't dig that guitar. Curious if there's more to come in these First Visit series! Can't say I like their move to public domain issues but Hat remains a label with quite an impressive catalogue. I'd say the artwork on this Steve Lacy issue is very nice.
  4. This isn’t going to help you in anyway but: 1. I know how you’re feeling. One of those moments you realize how important a good night of sleep is 2. It will get better in a few days fortunately 3. You could re read the topic I once started here: when they don’t sleep to comfort yourself with other horror stories Wow this is an amazing release. I decided to wait a little for some reviews first but very glad I got it. Nothing out but very intense. 23 years old Jack playing his arse off, amazing! I’d say the sound is good for a live record from this period. I hear enough bass.
  5. Good to see this series finally gets continued! Especially curious to that unreleased session with Frank Lowe.
  6. wow what a great record this is. I’d say it’s pretty unique in sound. The bonus track is definitely must have. Recorded pretty rough but must say it adds up to the dark atmosphere. Can’t go wrong with Daniel, Khan Jamal and Jerome Cooper.
  7. Their pricing seems very randomly chosen. Weird because i've had some good experiences with Mion Berlin. They were selling Japanese vinyl for pretty reasonable prices.
  8. I don’t think it’s even analog. The hype stickers don’t say so and Craft always mention that if it’s the case.
  9. I wasn’t aware of that. They did some vinyl reissues in the past decade I believe. Never heard one. I do know that some of them miss essential tracks that the cd does have. Like Johnny Dyani’s Somg for Biko: that one misses the amazing track Lonely Flower at the Village.
  10. an MJQ favorite. Don’t know if it’s his best but definitely among his best. That’s such a great record. Addictive music. Joe made lot of great music for that label back than. Happy to see it spinning on your turntable now Mark enjoy!
  11. When I saw the last vinyl copies sold for 400+ dollars and a cd copy popped up from a Dutch seller I decided to quit my quest for the LP and buy the cd. Contains an extra track as well
  12. He's on a whole lot of Prestige records as a sideman. He was kind of the house pianist. But his playing there is mostly restrained and in a different style than his post 1965 records with a few exceptions when he played with Dolphy. Mal moved more into free territory after 1968 though his music always remained pretty structured. If you're looking for more interesting solo outings than the one you listened to: The Opening (Clifford mentioned this one already) Update (on Soul Note) Meditations: Live at Dug (calmer than the Opening but with a lot of emotional depth) And if you're looking for more of the rhythmic trio music you encountered at the last part of that cd: Black Glory (on Enja with Jimmy Woode Number Nineteen (like A.L.B.O.M. with excellent Dutch musicians and a little more exciting) First Encounter (with Gary Peacock) Blood and Guts (sounds like the title: heavy stuff and rhytmically very interesting) Tokyo Bound (with two excellent Japanese musicians) Free at Last (on ECM but not very ECMish, this is probably his best known)
  13. The previously unreleased Sounds of Liberation stuff. Again with that beautiful artwork.
  14. lovely underrated spiritual Freejazz gem on Baystate. Unfortunate Ruff didn’t make a lot more records except his few appearances as a sideman.
  15. That's Superior Viaduct right? We could hope for a series, but I think it's more because of Joe McPhee this get's reissued. The label has an affiliation with him. Some Steve Lacy or Cecil Taylor reissues would be very nice
  16. I've got the Japanese LP but can't recall any tape speed issues.
  17. Thats a nice record but hardly his best. If you're curious to get to know his music you might want to check out my blog https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2020/12/all-reviews-by-rating.html This page may be helpful
