That’s a great one Chuck with a legendary band including Don Cherry, Hamiet Bluiett, Johnny Dyani, John Betsch, Roy Brooks and Carlos Ward. The Hajj is one hypnotic trip. Do you know ‘African Space Program’? That’s a record with some similarities to this one. Also highly recommended.

Oh my…. 🤩 I knew this was coming and contacted Fred lately about it but here it is. This was a very strong period for Mal. Great compositions chosen. I don’t know the other two musicians but I’ve learned to know that with Mal they are mostly a surprise in a very positive way. I could see the disappointment for the vinyl only by some if that ain’t your thing. Sam is an excellent label though run with love and craftsmanship so this music is getting the treatment it deserves

That’s a great one. I’d add these two: Both reflecting/highlighting two of the many styles he was playing in.

I’m somewhere between felser and sidewinder on this. Yes it’s a small company doing awesome projects. That’s why I like supporting them. I have good faith everything is gonna be alright. But they could really improve their communication and it might help to stop making promises that will be broken eventually. What’s the point of asking for payment of shipping fees if you’re not shipping the product in the coming 3 months? I could have used the money for other stuff in the meanwhile….

Yeah that’s a great record and Mal plays lovely on it. I don’t think it will bother me as well with McCoy it was just something I noticed. I do wonder if Keith Jarrett would have played it 🤪

Sound quality seems fine. I don’t think Blue Note would have picked it up if it wasn’t. Am I the only one hearing that the piano sounds a little out of tune? Haven’t heard it trough good speakers yet I must say so that might be the problem. Promising release. Such a pity there isn’t a version of ‘El Barrio’ on it. That must be one favorite Joe Henderson track (and one of my favorite jazz tracks ever).

I always loved the covers of Mediations and A Love Supreme. Transition is probably the most ugly. I could see what you mean but I must say Coltrane was a pretty photogenic man. He has some kind of natural charisma that shows of on the pictures that were made of him.

Very happy with this reissue. My 80’s OJC copy sounded great but had a huge scratch that was very audible. This remains a ‘60’s jazz classic and definitely Mal’s best pre-breakdown record.

Sounds like an interesting project. Great to see David is still active on the scene.

Vijay Iyer Trio at the Bimhuis. Not with Linda May Han Oh and Tyshawn Sorey but with two young talented guys I didn’t new. They played for 2 full hours and it was great. Vijay signed my copy of Uneasy afterwards. Friendly guy.

Glad to have seen him live a few years ago when he was 91 or 92 but still had lots of energy. A great player with a distinctive tone. RIP

I’d like to hear it and it might work but I must say that with Cannonball I love those soulful pianists he had in his groups. Especially Wynton Kelly was a match made in heaven

Abdullah Ibrahim. 89 years old and still going strong. He played a beautiful set of well known repertoire and new compositions. It was again a very intimate experience. He finished his set with some singing and chanting. The whole crowd stood up from their seats, all completely silent you couldn’t hear anyone breathe. Goosebumps.
