  1. Definitely it’s very good.
  2. Yeah I could see why. Fortunately we’re better fathers for our boys though 👍
  3. Dollar bin Getz record. With Jimmy Raney and Duke Jordan. Beautiful stuff.
  4. Last one for today. Amazing stuff…
  5. last but not least… yeah this is the most essential from the whole bunch. It’s funky, bluesy, soulful very very nice.
  6. Wow the bonus session Love Always is amazing. Unfortunately only one 15 minute track on a single sided LP but I like it a lot. The composition Love Always is credited to Jef Gilson here but I am very sure I know this composition from another record probably by another artist. I hate it when I just can’t think which one. Maybe you guys could help me out?
  7. Haha yeah that run trough my mind too when I read the ‘this looks great on your coffee table’ advertising text..
  8. I think you like it but hard to tell sometimes. There are some samples of this session on YouTube. You’re going for the cd versions right?
  9. Keno Speller is only on two tracks which makes this double LP essentially a solo saxophone/piano/flute/bass clarinet album. Not the most accessible but definitely very interesting stuff. Lancaster has an amazing sound and it’s an intimate listening experience.
  10. Again side A is definitely better than side A. I like it very, very much. Side B is okay but less interesting. The single is a nice addition that was with the original release as well.
  11. Probably but I am curious who’s their target market. The reactions on the Hoffman Board aren’t exactly positive.
  12. Sorry you’re right about that I’d like to hear that session but as you mentioned it doesn’t justify the price nor the weird combination with that ‘compilation by modern Blue Note artists.
  13. https://store.bluenote.com/pages/blue-note-review?utm_campaign=596740_10.16.24_Blue Note Records_Blue Note Review - Lee Morgan_Full List_231870_US&utm_medium=email&utm_source=dotmailer&dm_i=4YWU,CSG4,1RHK07,1XH75,1 well there you go… a box full of nonsense for for than 200 dollars… the only interesting thing in it is the Sonic Boom session which will be excluded from the Tone Poet and Classic series for this piece of 💩
  14. This one is not noisy that’s for sure. Never heard this one before. I like side A a lot. Side B is considerably less interesting imo
  15. First one. Sounds great!
  16. Okay the box arrived and first impressions are…. very good! They did one hell of a job here. Nice solid material, well printed, nice Obis, beautiful booklet, more beautiful session photography with each individual LP. This boxed set deserves an A+ for esthetics, love and care. Tend to listen to all of the music and will report after I heard them all but this looks very promising. And so nice to now have all these very hard to get sessions all at once!
  17. It’s scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I’ll probably won’t have time to listen for a while but keep you guys informed.
  18. As I am not in the business it’s hard for me to make a good judgement. But the article makes it feel like as an artist/producer you are obliged to go with the whole streaming thing and bringing out a physical release isn’t profitable anymore? As Jim mentioned 250 records sounds to break even sounds like a pretty reachable goal. After all the market has also expanded with internet and stuff. And was the situation ever better? Guys like Charles Gayle and Sonny Simmons were living on the streets in the non streaming era. I thought that record sales were doing pretty good last years. If you can’t make a living out of it how come so many of it still is released? And I am not only thinking about Blue Note and big companies. The Byard Lancaster box by Soufflé Continu comes to mind for instance. Just some sincere questions.
  19. the Buddy DeFranco session. Music to play over and over again.
  20. Mal playing with some excellent European sidemen. Henk Haverhoek on bass and Pierre Courbois on drums.
  21. Hey I did not knew you were involved. Great stuff man it has always been a very useful source to me!
  22. 1969 recording session with Barre Philips on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. This was intended to be released by BYG that very year but was released by Affinity in 1984. It’s a great session with some intense en percussive playing by the whole band.
  23. That’s a great one Mark. You’re gonna need this one as well 😜
