  1. App? Is there an actual app or just the website in the smartphone layout? I use that sometimes as well - again, no big issues at all. I wonder if those complaining still remember the old yellow-ish layout, c. 2000? Now that did suck, though it had some kind of charm.
  2. hear, hear! those recordings are very important to me, too... Yes, 'Closeness' was an early purchase for me. Be nice to see 'The Golden Number' on CD/mp3 - I've never heard it. "The Golden Number" has been released on CD... I have a copy. It's an attractive gatefold package similar to the original vinyl release. I've got a regular jewel case edition last year ... just saw the digipack version in a shop recently.
  3. Hm, actually I think searching is better than ever now - combined seaeches for artist and (partial) album titles never worked before ... and if it still doesn't, going via google does often help.
  4. Too many, not nearly enough time ... just gave a first spin to the Tom Rainey one on Intakt - seems to be pretty good!
  5. Just get ad blocker ... makes life so much easier It was my go-to-place on the internets for plenty of time, but nowadays often you get more accurate and complete info on discogs, wiki or of course on specialised discography pages. Allmusic is still visitied often, but the lack of meaningful reviews and inaccurate/messy info regarding line ups, recording dates (they keep mixing them with release dates) makes it bit of a nuisance. Some good reviews are to be found there, for sure though - Eugene Chadbourne for one, or this dude calling himself "arwulf arwulf".
  6. discs 2-4 (the Artists House sessions w/Hank Jones and George Cables, the later - on most of two discs - with Charlie Haden)
  7. some more obits: http://www.latimes.com/local/obituaries/la-me-charlie-haden-20140712-story.html http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/12/arts/music/charlie-haden-influential-jazz-bassist-is-dead-at-76.html
  8. Oh damn no! This is extremely sad, words fail. Thank you so very, very much for a life full of wonderful music, Mr. Haden.
  9. Looks like, yes. There are a few more Colpixes by Simone, good stuff! Wonder if there are any news regarding ownership of MPS?
  10. Their international shipping is high (I don't know how high really), but it might be worth mentioning that discplus.ch has the three Django "season" boxes (containing all the volumes of their "Intégrale") at a very good price (roughly 25€ per box): Saison 1 - 1928-1938 (14 CD) Saison 2 - 1938-1947 (14 CD) Saison 3 - 1947-1953 (12 CD) in case the links don't work, go here and do a search for "Django saison": http://discplus.ch/ Turns out to be around 118 or 130€ delivered to the US (economy/priority shipping), 106 or 114€ to France or Germany ... not that much of a bargain then, but still not bad, I guess (shipping makes no difference between 2 or 3 of the boxes, for just 1 it's somewhat less, but still pricey ... and now, I couldn't help out, it would probably cost me as much to send them to the US as they charge - they obviously don't have one of those slave labour contracts with mail services the way big bad evil A has, so they're charging actual shipping costs).
  11. I recently stumbled over this - I guess a consequence of EMI being part of the fold, too: There's one more: There might be more to come, I guess, but I can't seem to find any others so far.
  12. Guess so ... but they (the staff) should also answer emails. Once, when I had some oddity (my copy of a rather recent disc is printed upside down or rather glued together wrongly) in my hands, they did answer (but that didn't cost them any). Anyway, sorry to derail the thread.
  13. (I'm still pissed at Mr. Stollman ... a friend ordered the Bud 3CD set recently, after I had been urging him to do so for a while ... turns out - for no good reason whatsoever - the package was declared as being of double the value or even more ... my friend had to pay effin' custom fees, nearly as much as the actual cost of the box ... but no one from ESP was fit to even reply to his mail ... would have been the least to offer him a freebie or two, but no answer whatsoever ... guess that's an answer too, namely telling customers to go eff themselves ... guess I'm done with ordering straight from ESP for the time being.)
  14. Wow, was totally unaware of the Strayhorn!
  15. any relation to Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson? on the serious side: what would be a read by Rosen for a newbie like me? Sounds like somebody I'd be interested to check out (some day, no time right now), and I guess if they do one of those multi-boxes, no substantial notes will be included ...
  16. I was at the live performances at Firehouse 12 that part of the release will be taken from. I see Stephen with some regularity in the area. It is taking a while, but he is still working to get the stuff released. Really, I'm just excited about this and want to hear it!
  17. Just giving it a first spin now and enjoying it quite some! A bit weird that those helping to fund this don't get it on day one, though ...
  18. Got the Otoroku CD bundle that was mentioned a few pages further up ... nice one, the Brötz! (Haven't come around to the others.) As for some other stuff mentioned here ... the mailman finally dropped the new Jemeel Moondoc in the box today: Listening, I fondly remember the lengthy chats I had with Roy Campbell in Paris, some years ago (thank you again, brownie!) ... what a great, warm and generous soul! Also hoping the Dixon tribute by Stephen Haynes will eventually see release (I helped funding it, as I did with the Moondoc), it's been ages since the last update, I've long stopped holding my breath (not implying anyone stole my money, but gee, it takes loooooooooong).
  19. not an immense bargain, but an immensely enjoyable set, for 27 something € courtesy of amazon.it: http://www.amazon.it/Divine-Albums-1954-1958-Sarah-Vaughan/dp/B00AO7HPS4/
  20. Happy Birthday, Bruce!
