  1. yep, and the Giuffre stuff should be bouth in the Giuffre Mosaic, as long as that one's around. I have very few of the Collectables (one Chris Connor I found very cheap, and the Blakey Night in Tunisia/Lerner & Loewe set) - and one reason is sound is suspect to me, too. ubu
  2. by the way HUGE OUCH again, as I have "The Ear of the Behearer" (it's been quite some time though, since I heard it last). ubu
  3. Thanks for posting the replies, John! I hugely enjoyed your set! HELL, I DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE IBRAHIM TRACK!! I will read your post tonight, and may answer/post some more here. Sangrey, send me your CD anytime (GO SPAM and link us to your site here, this is the chance to sell some!) The Mangelsdorff track is very good - would love to have that sucker! ubu

EKE (or anyone who knows): how does this Music & Arts CD compare to the Storyvilles? Everything from the M&A also on Storyville? ubu

    Stan Getz

Thanks, gotta look if it's still there. ubu
  6. Ordered both. Thanks, jazz1! (thanks, too, for killin' my budget... ) ubu

    Stan Getz

And thanks again! You're right about Getz/Gilberto #2 most probably. There are several tracks without Getz, there. Steve Kuhn! Cool. Don't ask me why I did not have the idea to check AMG myself -_- ubu

Thanks, Lon! I was wondering, because the box was around somewhere here, and I only got CDRs (from the old CDs) of Jazz Samba and Jazz Samba Encore, and don't have Au Go Go at all - so the box might be the way to go. Remastering should be fairly good, too, I guess. ubu
  9. I only have "on Duke's birthday" which is great. I had 2 lps "Love for sale" and the Rossini, live in Zurich one, which was on Hat Art, maybe you could find them in Switzerland?? wishful thinking... sadly, hats are incredibly hard to find here (except for the latest hatOLOGIES), and they're incredibly prized, too! (38 CHF, which these days is around 25 Euros or 28/29 US$ - totally crazy, no?) I will try looking for the Rossini, though. There's one used vinyl store here - maybe I'm lucky... thanks. ubu
  10. Lots of confusion here. Alan Bates (English record producer) bought the Debut catalog in the '60s. He had a deal with Fontana to issue his stuff. As mergers progressed the lps started to show up on Polydor along with original Bates recordings (Dexter, Webster, Bud, etc). Bates eventually consolidated his holdings as Black Lion and Freedom. In the early cd era he got in financial trouble and was forced to sell/forfeit the masters to a German outfit operating as DA Music. DA is currently leasing masters to something marketed as 1201 Music in the US. Bates/Black Lion/Freedom did issue all the European sourced Fantasy issues and a bunch more. Alan Bates managed to hold on to the Candid catalog and operates it today. Chuck, Bates did lease some Candid stuff, too, didn't he? German ZYX did produce Candid CDs, and more recently TIM/Past Perfect had (still has, actually) Candid CDs on the market. Those 1201 releases show up here, too, but very expensive. They seem generally to be better remastered than DA's Black Lion CDs, no? ubu
  11. How does his playing on this date compare to the Pacific dates collected in the Pass Mosaic? ubu

Lon, doesn't that box omit one or two stray cuts? The albums should be "Jazz Samba", "Jazz Samba Encore", "Getz/Gilberto", "Getz/Gilberto #2" (which has more tracks, I think, then are in the box, no?), "Getz Au Go-Go" and "Getz/Almeida". btw, Lon, can you give the complete personnel listings for the Getz/Almeida date? I got the single CD issue (late eighties), and it does list no piano player, for instance. thanks, ubu
  13. It's on this puppy too: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A5xktk6rx9krw ubu
  14. jazz1, I cannot provide that CD you're looking for (I have none of the Westbrook's discs), but I did hear the Turner in Uri project (that festival which comissioned it, Alpentone - meaning "sounds of the alps" - was almost completely broadcasted on swiss radion. And that Turner in Uri piece was rather something! Can you give some recommendations where to start with Westbrook(s)? Some things that are easy to find, maybe? ubu

    Helen Merrill

Mike, I never heard her. Can you recommend some of her CDs? Or one of them, as a starter? ubu
  16. Milan - do you have the Capitol stuff? I'll send you an email probably tomorrow - thanks a lot for yours! ubu
  17. They have such a crappy website, and such a strang reissue policy... almost seems like Mr Lubinsky's still around there somewhere... ubu

Lon, this looks like a good one, going from the very few informations AMG gives. How about "Casa Forte"? While it's not her best album, it certainly does include some pretty good stuff, too. I think it has not yet been mentioned. ubu

    Helen Merrill

CDs on its way! It will sure have a nice new home in my collection, next to the other ten or twelve Merrill albums... ubu
  20. Yes, why not? You could start with "C'est Chic"! ubu
  21. Jim, as I am supposed to be working I don't have the time to read thoroughly through your post, but HELLYEAH! What a great album! I think this one must have been among my first ten or fifteen CDs (I came to be after the end of the LP era...) and I loved it ever since. As I recently (finally!) got "On the Corner" and listened to it a few times, I guess yes, Miles has really been influenced by the Sly-sound. ubu
  22. Jim, it's been a long time since I last listened to this one - would be a little bit embarassing if it were from this (at least I did immediately and spontaneously guess it could be Ibrahim, but I thought none I had). Anyway: you gotta get it indeed! Those Ibrahim albums with Carlos Ward are a great bunch of records! ubu
  23. CATESTA - your turn to tear the sucker up NOW (get it? NOW!!) ubu
  24. These should be high up on the list of things to come on hatOLOGY in my opinion! I never heard these. Other good hats I have: Jimmy Lyons, Jump Up Archie Shepp/Max Roach, The Long March Pts. 1 & 2 These are the old one, HatArt, in jewel cases. ubu

Well, hope that amazon France marketplace seller will materialize! I missed this one while it was in stores here (but I would have payed around 22 Euros for it here, too - regular prize for Universal CDs!) ubu
