That one in Zurich looks cool! Gotta go! The Speed/Black affairs look interesting, too! They played Willisau last year, have the broadcast. Gotta listen again. Black's a great drummer, probably one of the most interesting ones around these days! Favre, of course, the master percussionist... no idea though, who his partner is, neither what exactly that instrument could be. Regarding the other concerts in Geneva, let me have a look... I have heard something by Stephano Saccon, but I guess he won't be of too much interest for you. He plays alto, sort of Cannonball style, adds some electronic and a strong rhythm section (that's his own band, not the ones on that concert "GASP") Jan Brönnimann released a CD on Universal recently, called "Brink Man Ship" - sort of jazz-electronica, rather close to easy listening often, sometimes though they his some interesting grooves. I don't know the CD, have a broadcast. Reimann is the guitar player of that project. No idea who the cellist is. Marcel Papaux is a great mainstram drummer (maybe there's more to him than mainstream, I'm not so familiar with him) - check him out when he plays with some other band. Coming to march... You know Geri Allen, I suppose... also Vandermark. Otherwise, it looks like almost everything in march includes "chant"... And I don't know the musicians involved, safe: Domenic Landolf, a talented post-bop tenor, with a good band (Brodbeck is good, seems his regular crew). Yves Massy plays/leads an interesting crossover project called "Rosetta" - mixing jazz and some sort of folklore. That's it. I guess you can pass the ones I know, maybe if you get some more information about the concerts, check out some, but I would not know which ones. ubu

Hey, and just to be sure about the metal spines: the In A Silent Way box had no metal spine in the US, either, yes? ubu

Lon, you killed my post! Hope this does not diminish my post count After my now deleted rant, I was trying to post the following (while you were obviously deleting at the same time): Uh, besides: THIS IS GREAT NEWS! Thanks for sharing! I'm really looking forward to this release. I only heard the (probably rather disappointing) studio sessions with Feldman, Bond, Butler etc. once, years ago, but I know and have most of the concerts (the Antibes, the 1964, Berlin). The big surprise for me will be the Tokyo concert with Sam Rivers. Never heard it! And I really like these boxes, too! I got them all, most of them right after they were in the shops. ubu

A Mosaic Jazztet set is a dream come true for me too! I will most definitely pre-order this one! $$$ I picked up several of the Jazztet's albums on LP, too. "Another Git Together" on a very very expensive japanese pressing... But hey! It's great news that these records will get the Mosaic treatment! Jazztet meets John Lewis is a killer, by the way! ubu

Currently listening (and enjoying ) Terry Gibbs' "Jewish Melodies in Jazztime", by the way. Has Gibbs on doorbells, and on some tunes his brother, Sol Gage, and wooden doorbells . Sort of a retro-nostalgic thing, I guess, but hey, that was in 1963, looooong before today, where such exercices in nostalgia are rather trendy. ubu

Thanks, Al! Please report back once you heard "Soul Burst"! I won't be able to buy the CDs right now. ubu

I was not absolutely sure about this, Jim, but it certainly makes sense hearing their music! Thanks! ubu

You just don't get it, do you? I say "young"and I am. I simply don't need to waste any precious time worrying. Leaves me plenty of time to worry about other things, like jazz fans on jazz forums. I may not get this, but I got you never heard the jazz standard I was referring too, so you're not jazz God, that's for sure ouch! I sense wrath... Well, I never wanted to be anything but a king , but now teaching a god is a whole new experience... You make me feel so young You make me feel like spring has sprung Every time I see you grin I'm such a happy individual The moment that you speak I want to go and play hide-and-seek I want to go and bounce the moon Just like a toy balloon You and I, are just like a couple of tots Running across the meadow Picking up lots of forget-me-nots You make me feel so young You make me feel there are songs to be sung Bells to be rung, and a wonderful fling to be flung And even when I'm old and gray I'm gonna feel the way I do today 'Cause you make me feel so young ubu

http://www.jazzdisco.org/verve/ This site - I have no idea how accurate it is - gives you an idea what these Jams were about. Browse through the chronological session indices. I don't know in what year the Granz Jam Sessions started, but I think it was 1950. Later today I could post the info, if you're interested. I copied all those entries into a word-file recently. ubu

Wow! The Jazztet!!!!! HELL, FINALLY SOMEONE IS DOING THEM JUSTICE!!!! I only hope this is not a bad joke!! The Granz Jam Sessions will have lots of cool stuff for anybody who likes JATP, I guess. One of those sessions, or rather, a half session, was included in the Parker 10CD Verve box. ubu

By the way: glad you like it! ubu

BLINDFOLD TEST #7 sign up sheet
king ubu replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in Blindfold Test
Cool, looking forward to your disc! Hope you included some part of the soundtrack of the great film you call yourself after! ubu -
I was wondering about that one, too! Thanks for the recommendation, Mike! There goes some more money... ubu
-
I have the two CDs I listed, and took the info from the booklets. Thanks a lot for taking the pains to type it out for me, Hans! ubu
-
As I see others are reading here, too, let me put in a very very good word for this one: Some of the best early Dexter to be heard! "The Chase", his duel with Wardell Gray is included. ubu
-
Mike, these CDs in their oveview in the booklets only list each tune once, no matter if there are two, three or four tracks - it's rather an overview of compositions, than of contents of the disc. All information can be found in a small (smaller than CD-size) booklet included inside the (CD-sized) booklet. They're done quite lovingly, judging from the ones I saw or have. This all might be the reason for the incomplete listings on that site brownie linked. ubu

Thanks a lot, Hans! The McGhee/Edwards on the Marmarosa disc is indeed the date I know. Great stuff! ubu
-
Thanks, brownie! Browsing around there now. They don't really list details ("soon", they say), and the prize comparison doesn't work either. But Amazon UK has them for 7 or 8 £ and that's alright anyway. This one looks rather interesting, too: Really interesting, I think! ubu
-
And Edwards/McGhee always arouse my interest, so the additional material (not on your LP) might be worth getting it, too. Could this be the McGhee Dial date? I have that on one of those dreaded Definitive CDs I picked up for nothing some time ago, but don't have it at hand. I am not sure Marmarosa is on piano there, but could well be. ubu
-
The Marmarosa LP has the complete session with Babasin on cello (!) and Jackie Mills on drums of December 3, 1947, 11 takes in all, two test takes of "Tone Painting" and two AFRS Jubilee performances. That session with the cello is pretty interesting! (And it might be one of the earliest using cello in place of bass, I suppose). Will have to get it... ubu
-
I have almost all of the Dial LPs - the Norvo LP has Hallelujah 3 takes get happy 2 takes Slam Slam Blues 2 takes Congo Blues 5 takes No idea wether the CD has more. So this is all the material with Diz & Bird! There has to be something else on the CD, no? Otherwise I (and my bank account) could gladly NOT get this as well... ubu
-
The Gillespie LP has the session of February 6, 1946 that Parker missed, with Lucky Thompson, Milt jackson, Ray Brown, Al Haig and Stan Levey (8 takes), and 8 takes from the Harmanites session of September 21, 1946 with Bill Harris, Serge Chaloff, Sonny Berman, and Ralph Burns. Another cool one, it seems! ubu
-
The Garner LP does NOT include the tracks with Parker but the trio tracks recorded at the same session (3 takes), and 10 piano solos recorded for Dial on June 10, 1947, all very nice. So the CD will include what you listed plus the Parker takes, most probably. Thanks! One to get! ubu

Thanks! No hurry! I was just wondering if my thread got lost. ubu
