  2. So this might include tracks also on the "Blues, Boogie, & Bop" set? Do you have it? Does it also have complete sessions? ubu I believe it has some overlap. Maybe that would be too much for me, but it does look good! ubu
  4. So this might include tracks also on the "Blues, Boogie, & Bop" set? Do you have it? Does it also have complete sessions? ubu
  5. But hey, with that title the box would have to be at least 12x12" - so that everyone can wonder wtf that thing up on the shelf is... ubu
  6. I know Joos has been mentioned, but I don't know if this site was linked already: http://www.kind-of-blue.de/seiten/joos.htm scroll down to find lots of Joos' Miles-paintings. let me add one here: ubu
  7. I'd agree with all those you listed! A few more to add to the list: Sketches of Spain, Miles Smiles. ubu
  8. Yep, there was (is?) another huge Mercury set, containing (if memory serves) 1945-1955 sessions. I'm at work now, but when I get home I'll post a few details here - if it doesn't slip my mind, that is... Hans, it says in the notes it's just the fifties in that other box. Thanks in advance! ubu
  9. I think this would be a good idea, but I'd rather suggest a monthly (or maybe bi-weekly) proceeding. It's been hard for a lot of us to follow the AotW steadily, and now with the BFT bringing a constant involvement (which is cool, but it does need time - I have not even listened to one track of BFT#8 so far! Apologies!), a weekly artist thing might just be too much. Then what would speak against it is that we do have threads on lots of artists (mostly in the artists section, also in the recommendations), and it would get a bit annoying I think to have two discussions on basically the same, no? Or we would just do it as a pinned thread inside the artists section, and after the week of month or whatever is gone, the next (new or already existing) thread gets pinned. This would be a solution to double things up, but it would need constant involvement from the moderators, too. I think I would participate sometimes, and sometimes just let it pass (as with the AotW). ubu

    Jim Hall

Uh, we should all write Michael C emails about continuing the West Coast Classic series! The Hamilton Trio, the Great Encounters... there would be enough good stuff for three or four batches at least, I guess! Thanks for clearing, Jim! And jazzshrink - there's always the japanese way, but I do not go for it - it's beyond my league, financially... ubu

And these are all good, John? I find the JMT output rather crappy, I have to admit (although I only know few of their releases, and read about many only) ubu
  12. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...4%3A4112%3A5056 This disc is pretty hard to find, and this is a great prize! (I was happy to pay twice as much)... ubu
  13. Thanks! I got it here, by the way: http://secure01.entertainme.com/servlet/Pr...rvlet?id=408008 In case anyone else might try his luck. It took far longer than the 5-10 days, but then they sent it with DHL, two days shipping from the US, which is pretty fast! And this seems to be the only site still listing it (I found it via google). By the way: the notes in the booklet mention another Mercury set, designed to their 50th anniversary. I cannot remember the title. It's said to be a fifties Mercury box - anyone has that one? And what's on it? Just samples of different albums, or complete sessions as on the forties set? (the complete sessions is maybe the biggest plus of it!) ubu

These two boxes do look really cool! Did I not look at it good enough or are the Winter&Winter JMT reissues listed on the site NOT included on the "Empire Box"? ubu
  15. king ubu

    Funny Rat

yes, go to screwgun immediately and buy the Empire box (5 discs for $30) and the the Bloodcount - Unwound box (3 cds for $28.) The Empire box is a re-release of his albums on JMT, recorded in the late 1970's / early 1980's. Unwound contains all live tracks recorded by Bloodcount (Berne, Jim Black and Chris Speed.) Both sets are great and really inexpensive through Berne directly. uh, and even immediately! Thanks, John! I think I've had the Bloodcount in my hands several times already... ubu

No apologies needed, Gary! I think there would be some interesting things to be found there, yet, as I said: I have not yet figured out how to listen and/or save these things (which did frustrate me a couple of months ago, already, as I did try before...). Yet with your and rockefeller's help I might find out now! (I'll PM you). And sorry for my tasteless jokes! ubu

It's just a dumb-ass BBC website where you cannot find anything... uh, I found some secret statements about Mr Kelly instead of the Wynton Marsalis broadcast I was looking for so hard... ubu

Thanks, Gary. I never saw him live. And I'm rather impressed by Ducret so far - his playing with Daniel Humair's "Liberté suveillée" project (also featuring Ellery Eskelin and Bruno Chevillon) is pretty good! I have never really managed to find out how the BBC3 site works - can these sound bits be downloaded and put onto CDR in some way, or are they just to be listened to online? And with what programme? Realplayer does not seem to work! ubu

Anyone's heard this one? I like it quite well. Also parts of his most recent 2CD release (recorded live near Zurich) were broadcast on swiss radio a year or more ago - pretty good, too. Downbeat gave it quite a good review. Any Berne recommendations? ubu

The dreaded hats are only the most obvious example... Thanks for the link, will have to check it! ubu
  24. That would be comparable to the Classics 2CD set of leftowers. They also failed to include two alternates from Hodges' "Blues A-Plenty" in the second Hodges box. You can't blame them on the Green - these were probably considered un-releasable or even unknown at the time. ubu
