Listening to the broadcast I mentioned - Elvin Jones Jazz Machine, Willisau 2001, with Delfayo Marsalis, Pat La Barbera, Eric Lewis and David Pulphus. It's quite good, altough very conventional. Marsalis can play, by the way! And La Barbera is good, too. Elvin jokes around announcing the encore, "It Don't Mean A Thing" - he even starts singing the last line of the A-part of the theme (dooo wa doo wa etc.) ubu

Well, I didn't know that for a long time, but thanks to careful reading here at this very forum, I already knew that. (Just don't ask me for a link; I don't remember which thread...) What I want to know is, what is this clown doing with his vinyl that it less permanent than CDs? Teaching his dog to catch them? Thanks, Mark! Wow, I really wouldn't have thought so! ubu

Oh.......Heck.......YEAH!!!! But the coolest moment of all is on Lyons' second solo, toward the end, Lyons' blowing like a mother, and Taylor starts to pound those low notes on the piano. Just waaaaaaaaaay coooooooooooooooool!!!! B) B) B) That's one of the grooviest moments in music, I think! Great indeed! ubu

(taken from link above) Is this true? If so, count me among "most people"... ubu

Step Right Up (Kirk) - 4:41 You're really sure the Label M does not have the two bonus cuts? ubu (edited to correct link)

That's good to know! Enjoy the Cecil! I had two consecutive listens today to "It Is In The Brewing Luminous" - very very impressed! And I think the Lyons solo on the first part is one of his very best! Awesome music, for sure. ubu

Actually they wanted to save #666 for your first Mosaic set, but then they sent that to me ubu

5000 CDs @ $10 = $50,000 25 years old? Do you have your own home too. I started early, you know! And then I saved every penny for buying CDs, went to work on holidays, bought a sax, another sax, a hifi set, and when I had everything, I started on CDs... you won't blame me, willya? You're not my dad, either (unless... one never actually knows ) ubu

I read this thread when it started, but did not post anything in reply, now with the other thread, I'm most disturbed. This is very sad news. Elvin might very well be my favourite drummer ever. I never saw him live, and it does not seem I will. The last thing I heard of him was a broadcast in 2001 - he was in top form. I will remember him like that, and think of him. impossible: thanks a lot for posting that picture of you and Elvin! ubu

Ear And Nose Control, anyone?

I didn't know that! That recording of Gourley & Wilen, "Double Action", is a great one. Combelle plays drums, there. ubu

Will this be a newly remastered edition, or can I stick with my old CD edition? ubu

Here's the thread of Jim's: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...2656&hl=hampton (you'll see the cover of the US release, there - I think the US releases of these Vogue discs came out in the early nineties, while the "Original Vogue Masters", the one I pictured above, came out between 1997-1999) ubu

Combelle was mentioned in the Lafitte thread, recently. Why not dedicate a separate thread to Combelle, I thought. He lived from 1912-1978. Here's AMG's short bio: Here's an old photo of him: and a later one: Combelle played in the fabulous Django group that recorded four sides with Benny Carter and Coleman Hawkins. Combelle's work is available in several volumes of the Chronological Classics series (I have none of them so far). ONe recording of Combelle's that I have is with Lionel Hampton, recorded during the later's 1953 tour to Europe. Released on Vogue, it features Combelle, along with another tenor saxophonist, Clifford Scott, and several other horns - I think Sangrey started a thread on this one in the recommendations section of this board. Here's the cover of the european release: (available from Amazon France here) Are there other recordings that should be listened to? Brownie, do you know more about Combelle that what you posted in the Lafitte thread? ubu

This is out here since at least last week. Won't pick it up right now, as I'm trying to cut down my CD expenses... However, the Sco-Swallow-Stewart band is a great one, and I'll certainly get this disc some fine day! ubu

A freak of nature? Hellyeah! And sure I have big ears - I need them to listen, you know? And then, I periodically shave my head, in order for my ears to be able to listen without any distortion... ubu

You got to know that VAT or some other tax is deducted for non EU orders (such as, you guessed right: Switzerland...) - so this means, you pay at least just what's said on the site, non EU orders get some % off. ubu

Joe Puma, Jimmy Gourley, Laurindo Almeida?

"I never buy CDs" That seems to be the feeling of the current generation (15 - 25). I've hear that statement alot. Hey, I just got 25 and have bought some four or five thousand CDs so far, 95% jazz... ubu

Why not just ask Noj (or anyone) to browse through Noj's 1033 posts? Go to his user profile, click "view all posts by this member" and be patient... ubu

And there are even some "Atlantic Original Sound" items listed at the end! Pure chaos, it seems! Also some new releases (as opposed to reissues), as the Yellowjackets disc. ubu

Uh, Claude, sorry, I didn't look right! They are there, but mixed, as Tony says. And strangely the link now works fine! It really didn't when you posted it! ubu

Are you alright? - I certainly hope so! Did you get my mail after your package arrived?
