It is somewhat more melodic than other CT solo recordings, but is quite represenatitive nonetheless . Meaning, get other solo Cecil stuff ("Indent", "Air Above the Mountains", "Silent Tongues", etc.)! Meaning: get other CT solo recordings TOO, right? Are the three you listed the ones to look for? I should get some more solo Taylor (have the In East-Berlin, and Willisau discs only). ubu

We'll make it! Had the same feelings, and I definitively want them both... Yet it seems they will last some time, no? I think someone posted that they were not actually running low yet, but due to the license expiry, they'd put them on the list. Well, let's cross our fingers! ubu -
I like this one, purchased in a HatHut binge I gave me a few months ago.... Lee Konitz - Don Friedman - Attila Zoller: "Thingin" Check Zollar out on this very fine disc, with OP, Jimmy Pratt, and Hans Koller: ubu That's a very good album. One of my favorite discs Yes indeed! I think they really got their own sound. Some cool, some hard bop, and each one of them had a disctinctive sound and style on his instrument. What a petty OP had to die so early! It seems Zoller left Germany shortly after (I stay corrected on this point, if someone knows more)... ubu

Hey, cut that shit! I'm the one and only king ubu here, posting only and exclusively under this handle. Why would I need any aliases (except maybe Ms Garner... )? ubu

It´s on PRAGUE JAZZ (CUBE METIER) Do you have it or did you just google? I will compare the tracklist and look if it's the same stuff I have. It was recorded at "Oltener Jazztage", just in case someone's interested. There are a couple of trio tracks on my MD, I remember. ubu

Two hungarian guitar players, both a bit better known than the others discussed here, but still they do deserve being mentioned: Attila Zoller (1927-1998) He can be heard on the recently reissued Zo-Ko-So, with Hans Koller & Martial Solal (MPS): The other man, Gabor Szabo ((1936-1982). He played with Chico Hamilton (in the band that also included Charles Lloyd), on "Passin' Through", reissued on "Man From Two Worlds". His own "High Contrast" and "The Sorcerer" are available from Verve/Universal: ubu

I haven't heard what EKE has recommended, but I can also recommend one of his earliest recordings called "Swinging Macedonia" (Enja). thanks, this title somehow is stored in some place of my brain dedicated to future jazz acquisitions... ubu

What would be a good way to start with getting to know Waller's music? The 2CD set on Bluebird that came out for the centennial? I know that some day I got to get the complete run of his Bluebird stuff (don't ask HOW I come to know that, some inner voice tells me... ) ubu

... and be patient, I forgot to add. (I have to transfer it from MD to CDR first, and won't be able to this before later this week, or maybe next week) ubu

I've got the broadcast! Around 45 minutes of GREAT stuff! Drop me a note if you feel like... don't forget your address Thanks to Gokhan for telling me that I should indeed watch out if it's the reed trio! ubu

Without reading anything posted here. I have just started listening to disc 1. Got them today. They might have arrived a couple of days ago, my girlfriend having been ill, I stayed over at her place a few days. I enjoy what I have heard so far (4 tracks), and look forward to listening to the two discs over the weekend. Thanks a lot, Ray! I am not sure I will post a track-by-track impressions-write-up later, as the discussion has been underway for pretty long time now... We'll see. ubu

Happy Birthday!

Just found out more: it seems the concert took place october 16th, and they played just the three of them - Brötzmann (ts,cl,tarogato), Gustafsson (bari, flutophone, french flageolet), Vandermark (ts,cl,bcl). Entrance was... FREE!!! (This information comes from here, the website of the "Porgy & Bess".)
-
Saturday May 22nd, Ö1 will broadcast live recordings of Brötzmann, Vandermark and Gustafsson, starting 11.05 pm. Recorded live at "Porgy & Bess" in Vienna, October 18, 2003. Not sure how long the broadcast will be, not sure what band it was, or what bands, but most probably some Brötz tentet thing, I guess. Hope I will be able to record it, cannot guarantee anything, though. ubu

Though I can't take too much of it at the time - I'll rather listen to two or three tracks, then have something else in between, before I continue. ubu

I have heard broadcasts of Dresch, too. A good player! Got to look through my broadcasts to find out more, though. ubu

Maybe Goykovich is considered almost too obvious? (Not that I know his music very well, but I sure know his reputation!) Then, he's from former Yugoslavia (don't ask me where from, exactly), and we have so far not mentioned anyone from the balcan region. (Except Helen Merrill, of course, but she's got her own thread) Can you recommend one or two albums of Goykovich's? ubu

Morava is a delightful album. Viklicky plays beautifully, and the singer, Zuzana Lapcikova, has a really pretty voice. Thanks! I read a very positive review when it came out and forgot about it since. ubu

Had a look at this CD in a store last week - it consists of track 14-23 from the Chester PA concert and other stray items, possibly recorded at the Birdland (or some other NYC club), and one track from Newport or some other large US festival (the very last track of the reissue). Was too lazy to write it down. However, it seems it's taken from the discography posted on the first page of this thread. And I'm sure there are 10 tracks from the Chester broadcast, namely #1-10 on the reissue. ubu
