  1. Cecil Taylor - Nefertiti (though the 1997 Revenant release was, it seems, already a huge step in the right direction). The Monk/Coltrane/Abdul-Malik/Haynes tape. Tons of pre-fifties music, of course (although I'm only starting to really enjoy that stuff, but hell, imagine, for instance, hearing the Lester KC dates in contemporary sound quality!!) Julius Hemphill's "Coon Bid'ness" (or however that should be spelled). The Dameron broadcasts with Fats Navarro. ubu
  2. Enjoying the thought that in two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine or ten weeks the two Veejay sets will arrive here... ubu
  3. No, it's only a privacy issue for you (someone else posting with your account). It depends if a permanent or temporary browser cookie has been set: If you choose the "remember me" option when log in, a permanent cookie with your (encrypted) login details will be saved on the PC, and you will be logged in automatically when you return to the board, even if the PC has been switched off in between sessions. If you don't use the "remember me" option, a temporary cookie will be set, that is valid for that browsing session only. When you close the browser, it is deleted. Unfortunatley, the "remember me" option is ticked by default on the log in page, so if you are on a public computer and forget to change to "No" when you log in, a permanent cookie will be set, which will only be deleted when you click on log out, but not when you simply close the browser. But it's no problem using network-computers, right? I mean, I log in to the computers at the two places I work, and then only if someone logged in as me (my "name" and password), he would be able to access organissimo as me, right? If someone logs in with his own name/password on the same computer, and I forgot to log out the day before, he can't see a thing, right? ubu
  4. The West Coast of Belgium, I presume... Yeah, but check the last "reunion" session with Jaspar - he moved to the east coast by then!

A GREAT record! Can't say enough good things about that one! Everybody's at the top of their game. And dig "Struttin' With Some Barbecue" - that version still could teach Wynton some lessons! ubu And I remember the liner notes saying they recorded more stuff during this session (including Hancock's "Maiden Voyage")... I'm not sure - though it would be lost if it's not on the VEE disc, as the VEEs did include extra material when available - sad! ubu
  6. I heard him once with Max Roach's Bejing Trio. That was in November 2001, if I remember right. They played the closing night of the "jazznojazz" Zurich Jazz Festival - an awesome concert in many ways. Great interaction between Jang and Roach, also great and quite long duo passages by Jang/Roach. Then solo parts, too. A fascinating, if sound-wise sometimes a bit weird and unusual, concert. Roach was really on that night. ubu

I have a bit of a problem with this one - but I listened to it only once so far. Vandermark sounded bland, and some other pieces (with Ab Baars, I think) seemed dry and boring. I'll listen to it again. Anybody else cares to share his (or her, he-he) thoughts (I think we all got it at the dawn of the glorious Funny Rat days, when it was annonced OOP, didn't we?)? I had one listen ages ago, felt the same as you and so put it aside for another day. I'll have another listen tonight. Listening to right now: writings... This one is great! I mentioned it some pages ago - it's got the same line up as the GREAT concert D.D. and me saw. David, do you have it already? ubu

  9. I've had the Dizzy/Mogie in my hands a week ago. It's the Chester date (I think one post that has been edited in the meantime included a listing of what was recorded there, it's tracks 14-23 of that now disappeared list, NOT the tracks on the Jazz Unlimited release) + cuts from different dates recorded at one famous NYC club (Vanguard, Birdland, can't remember), plus the final track from some Newport concert (1957? The one on Verve? I don't have that - was that a complete release of this concert, or just a few tracks?) ubu
  10. And who's the third tenor? Sounds good, John! I'll put that disc on my list! What would I give to have heard and seen Edwards! Hell, I was born too late! ubu
  11. He-he, I remember seeing this. A "jazz Chopin" image. Pretty disguasting indeed. Overall, I am not a big fan of Kühn - talented musician (and monster chops), but tends to be too bombastic and, man, does he overplay... Never knew he plays alto - would be interesting to hear. His brother Rudoplh (?) plays straghtforward clarinet, and there is a nice disc (early-mid 90s, I think ) of his where he plays with different partners anbd there is one duo with Ornette, and it is excellent. Where the fuck is new Ornette's CD, btw? His brother's name is Rolf - they just released a new duo CD, see my first post (I think - if you're too lazy to read the whole thread, I don't feel obliged to check - and HELL: what you doing outside of the rat? Did *they* let you out? ubu
  12. This might be of interest: http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=10313 Just bought it yesterday. The photogaphs by Dominique Isserman are awesome! ubu
  13. Great review, P.L.M.! Look at the photo I posted here - even from that photo one can tell him being what you call a caricature of the romantic piano player... no one looks like this from his own will Wonder what a concert with Kühn and Ornette both on alto would be like! Just to add one more to the list of B. Goren: "Triple Entente" with Humair & Jenny-Clark (I mentioned it already) - I have listened to it again, and it's awesome! It seems Humair is the "diva"-kind-of-guy, yet he is one of the great drummers of the present, in my opinion. (btw, "Triple Entente" came out in the late nineties, AMG does not list it). ubu

  15. Hope you'll have such a nice audience too, as had this man who would have been 100 yrs old recently (more here) Happy birthday, and many happy returns! And again thank you very much for providing this space for us ubu

ubu, solo Cecil is my favorite Cecil, so yes, of course I highly recommend these CDs. Indent is beautiful, but I am not sure it is that easy to find (it's on Freedom). If you don't find it, I'll CD-R it for you... one day. Air Above Mountains (on Enja MW) is available for EUR 10 from amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000...3523564-6837667 How is East-Berlin? I'm afraid I haven't really listened in any concentrated way to "East-Berlin" - another reason not to buy ANY other disc now... (and those Veejay Mosaics are going OOP and I HAVE to get these, so there won't be no money around anyway). I have never seen "Indent" nor "Silent Tongues", I have seen though that Amazon has the other ("Air...") cheap. I might go for that, but only AFTER the Mosaics (I have to keep telling myself ) thanks, anyway! ubu
  17. Oh no holy shitte!!!! I dropped them a message asking how long they think the two sets are going to be around, and here's their answer: Get it? HOLY CRAP!!
  18. I don't have any of his Steeplechase discs, but the one you picked up was recommended in this thread on Dyani: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=8165&hl=dyani ubu

It is somewhat more melodic than other CT solo recordings, but is quite represenatitive nonetheless . Meaning, get other solo Cecil stuff ("Indent", "Air Above the Mountains", "Silent Tongues", etc.)! Meaning: get other CT solo recordings TOO, right? Are the three you listed the ones to look for? I should get some more solo Taylor (have the In East-Berlin, and Willisau discs only). ubu

Fuck, missed this. Drop me a PM, include your address...
  21. Last Exit Mujician "It Ain't Necessarily So" - the Grant Green/Sonny Clark version. Any Fletcher Henderson.
  22. We'll make it! Had the same feelings, and I definitively want them both... Yet it seems they will last some time, no? I think someone posted that they were not actually running low yet, but due to the license expiry, they'd put them on the list. Well, let's cross our fingers! ubu
  23. I like this one, purchased in a HatHut binge I gave me a few months ago.... Lee Konitz - Don Friedman - Attila Zoller: "Thingin" Check Zollar out on this very fine disc, with OP, Jimmy Pratt, and Hans Koller: ubu That's a very good album. One of my favorite discs Yes indeed! I think they really got their own sound. Some cool, some hard bop, and each one of them had a disctinctive sound and style on his instrument. What a petty OP had to die so early! It seems Zoller left Germany shortly after (I stay corrected on this point, if someone knows more)... ubu
  24. Hey, cut that shit! I'm the one and only king ubu here, posting only and exclusively under this handle. Why would I need any aliases (except maybe Ms Garner... )? ubu
