  1. But this begs the question: is oatmeal still oatmeal after it has been microwaved?
  2. Any news on new alternate takes/bonus tracks? I've got the Patton on order, but other items I've ordered with it (discs released in November 2014!) have held up my order for more than a month by now
  3. Yeah! A somewhat frantic album maybe, packing in so many songs - but I was quite surprised, too, when I accidentally stumbled over it a few years ago and picked it up because of the fine line-up.
  4. certainly one of my favourite new jazz releases of the past few years! :tup
  5. yay, fuck y'all! btw, I do like Peterson, quite some, and I don't give a flying shit about "Whiplash", will certainly not go and watch it ... good thing you don't read German (feghers! ) or else I'd share an interview held with a local drummer who was pretty negative about the entire circus that "Whiplash" seems to depict (I guess the reality of jazz schools is again, as is Big O's relationship to OP, a bit more complicated though). Excuse me while I go fuck myself now ...
  6. Ok, Keepnews was obviously an important individual in some ways, but calling him a "towering figure" (side by side with Sonny Rollins!) is absurd. (GA, sorry about the harsh wording. No offense intended.) ... and yet that might just about be how he saw himself
  7. Grumpy old pain ... r.i.p. and thanks much, very very much indeed, for all the music!
  8. Congrats, Wes!
  9. Just a little bump because I finally got this ... Coltrane is somewhat muted, but Miles is great! And indeed, for a live recording of such vintage, it sounds more than decent and the package is nicely done. Bout at jazzmessengers.com in case you wonder. They have some (but not all) of the NJA releases available (including the latest, some more 1961 Monk with Dunlop).
  10. Ordered!
  11. Just to make sure: these are additional recommendations to the aforementioned ones (two vols of HLP, being Humair/Louiss/Ponty; plus the double album with Getz). Not sure of the entire bunch which ones I love most, don't know the HLP ones that well yet, but the Trio one is incredible, that's for sure!
  12. so who's that young Larry who once was in Paris anyway? as for Louiss, don't forget these: "Bohemia After Dark" is "Orgue Vol. 2", it was part of the original Jazz in Paris series, while "Orgue" was one of the new additions to the Jazz in Paris "Collector's Edition" (using original cover art, in many cases reissuing stuff again that was part of the original Jazz in Paris series ... more on all that in the ). And of the trio one, there's another version with different cover around, yellow/orange-ish with a photo of Louiss at the organ - here.
  13. OOP certainly not, possibly on backorder? Love the Jamal, think the Peterson holds some of his best playing (but of course he's not for everyone). The Pass I've yet to explore in depth, but yeah, he was a great player at that time, I very much enjoy his contributions on the Gerald Wilson Pacific Jazz albums).
  14. jazzmessengers.com has many at decent prices, but of course I don't know which ones you're looking for ... me, I still miss McGhee, Chubby Jackson and a few older ones (Gryce, Christian, Gordon ...), but I finally just got the Tristano. And yeah, this one does go onto the shopping list as well, I guess!
  15. almost Bowie's best LPs on his own Which one(s) would you rate higher?
  16. Great news ... but those promo 10" I don't quite get ... they're purely for collectors but don't contain anything that's not on the full release, right? I first noticed them doing that for the recent Charles Lloyd release (which I don't have yet). The other Montgomery ("In the Beginning") is out over here already - I guess it's very much worth it for Montgomery himself, though I have to confess I don't like his brothers all that very much. The sax player (Alonzo "Pookie" Johnson) isn't bad, but all in all, it's Wes who shines (and outshines his surroundings, but then I feel that way on the other Montgomery Bros. albums as well, so your mileage may vary).
  17. Hm, my selection would surely include "My Favorite Things" in its original Altantic rendition ... and I guess one or two more, shorter cuts from that period. And it would have to include a selection from the Carnegie Hall concert w/Monk - that, to me, sounds more like a pinnacle than most of what was committed to disc by Prestige (some of which is mighty fine, but I think I'd rather tend to see a fast development at Prestige and a first phase of consolidation/harvesting at Atlantic ... but I'm not up to the task of getting that playlist together right now, I'm afraid (not enough time to dig into all my Coltrane discs).
  18. He sure did! Huge thanks for all the great music! r.i.p. Clark Terry
  19. Info on the Spotlite (as given above) contradicts the actual announcer heard on the LP. He gives Blakey on the date with Eldridge and Kay on the date with McGhee. what about that: http://pastdaily.com/2015/01/25/roy-eldridge-coleman-hawkins-all-stars-with-arthur-prysock-at-birdland-1952-past-daily-downbeat/ keep boppin´ marcel Didn't listen, but the info in the write-up is consistent with the announcer on the LP: in the group w/Eldridge, you get Blakey, w/McGhee, you get Kay (or, according to the Silver site, Blakey, but then the announcer would have been drunk or blind or whatever).
  20. Very much agree there! As for media coverage of those Beeb child molesters, sure. Plenty of it here.
  21. "Chasin' the Trane"!

    Vocalion

Okay, guess I got some catching up to do there, some day - sounds good what you say, that's for sure! I finally did order the Skidmore (TCB) and the McNair, too.
  23. sad news, r.i.p.
  24. okay, so what now? 1) is this legit? 2) are others than Grant Green Jr. making profit/earning royalties from this (uhm: is this legit)? 3) are solos by the others cut out? 4) has this been dl-ed from youtube or is it actually in good quality (sorry, I was too late to catch it on youtube, it might have been decent quality there, too, I wouldn't know) 5) is this legit?
