David, I only have that great stoopid music album of Dickerson's with Sun Ra that came out in Verve's Elite Edition. Nothing more, so far. To go or not to go, this is the question! ubu
  4. Now about the Saalfelden 04 gig: it seems that Austrian broadcasting company will broadcast all of that concert in an Ö1 "Jazznacht" in november, persumably (but not confirmed yet, check http://oe1.orf.at for more) on Saturday Nov. 20, or rather, Sunday Nov. 21, 1 a.m. - 2 a.m. (that's the usual timeframe for broadcasts in the "Jazznacht" which goes on until 6 a.m.). I heard two encores from that concert, Taylor & Oxley, played one long track (around 50 mins) and then continued to play some short "encores", it seems quite a few of them. Knowing how well they fit together from the 10CD Feel Trio set, I'm pretty excited about getting to hear this concert!
  5. Are these the nice little girlie daughters of our good friends Brötzl and Eneidi?
  6. now pu-lleaze, mister, that IS discriminating! And I always knew those Russian didn't know how to think historical - if they don't even get the sense of chronology... ubu
  7. so I guess I am a thread crapper, right?
  8. Hey you moldy fig! Didn't you know that Brötzelmeister has been accepted as an old-fashioned mainstream jazz musician thirty years ago?
  9. That's what I meant to say, of course! Thanks for correcting!
  10. Capitol is part of the EMI "family", yes? Strange, so it does not run low because of any licensing problems, I suppose? I'm afraid I'll HAVE to get it... ubu

Speaking of Enja Weber, I got this one some time ago, and it's quite good, it couples two whole albums: The first one is with Hancock, McBee (not the Japanese clothes store), and Jimmy Lovelace, the second with Hubert Eaves, Ron Carter, McCury, Kenneth Nash. Recorded in 1965 and 1974 respectively.

D.D.: that's the Enja Horst Weber label, the Winckelmann has been active all the time and bringing us some goodies regularly. Weber has not been really out of business, it seems - he did, for instance that duo disc (don't have it) of Shepp and Waldron, two years ago or maybe three. I'm not really interested in the Takase - she did an earlier programme, I think exactly the same band, but with Fred Frith on guitar, and no trumpet playing W.C. Handy - don't know the disc, but her Willisau gig was... well, annoying. You didn't really get to know if they actually WERE playing that bad and amateur-like, or if they consciously TRIED TO APPEAR as amateurs... Mahall was in charge of spoken introductions, they were NOT funny yet some of them went longer than the music to follow (4 minutes of talking, then 3 minutes of music - glad that rationale applies not to all concerts and neither to CDs...) end of rant. That disc you have with Dorge sounds pretty cool! Didn't check out Khan Jamal, but it seems he's one of more (or most) interesting vibists coming on us since the sixties.
  13. Check that site again, there's some new stuff there! ubu

    Prez is here!

Thanks! So I'll go back to that store and get the other DVD as well!
  16. For the most part I agree with Mike, but I wouldn't want to do away with the Funny Rat thread, either. I really enjoy the "conversation" we are having there. Voted yes, but I'd miss the rat, for sure!
  17. Gary, more from that concert, as well as many CDs more worth of live recordings are available as MP3s on Osby's website: http://www.gregosby.com/mp3.html and http://www.gregosby.com/mp3b.html ubu

That's the only problem, yes. But when you only search the recommendations forum and chose "post results as posts" or how that's called, you find everything pretty fast - that's my experience, at least. Will have a listen to the Melford/Bennink, then, as soon as I can! I picked it up in a hat-sale - still have many I never heard...

I have both the duo hatOLOGY's with Bennink, not heard the Melford yet, but I think "Dissonant Characters" is very good. Also I mentioned that Brötz/Mengelberg/Bennink trio disc I picked up on FMP, "Three Points and a Mountain...Plus" - some great stuff on it. Steve - stick around here!

    Prez is here!

Got a DVD called "Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis: Great Performances". Here's what it includes: #1-3: Jammin' The Blues (Mili) #4: Hot House (Bird & Diz) #5-9: JATP (Mili) #10-13: The Sound of Miles Davis (Smight) ("The Sound of Jazz") #14-17: bonus tracks from Jammin' the Blues. Now first: I have been very very moved, and deeply impressed. Fantastic to see Prez and all the others! Wow! My question is: is the listing above exactly what Disc 1 of the 2DVD set includes? And if so, can someone confirm that item #10 on this list (Dusty Groove) has exactly what is on the second DVD of the 2 DVD set? The store where I bought the "Great Performances" DVD has #10 from the list, but not the 2DVD set, yet if the two single DVDs don't have it all I might go searching for the 2DVD set... I'm hooked! ubu

Interesting enough those two are the ones I have CDRs of Thanks again, gnhrtg! Will report when I heard them a few times!
  22. Three Classics (Bennie Moten, Jelly Roll Morton, Andy Kirk) and one Neatwork (Hawk) - all picked up used. Of course I'd like to have several hundred...
  23. Here's a snapshot from the king's garage:
  24. David, that's yet another album! I only have the tracks in the Ornette box, but I guess this would be nice to have in complete form! Here's a link to the Collectables reissue. ubu
  25. Happy birthday! A great bass player with a beautiful sound, and a great bandleader, too (though somehow - sorry to say this on his birthday - I'd wish in that function he'd be a bit more innovative and open again - the band with Wheeler & Priester was fantastic, in my opinion.)
