That's no Fridays... so no possibility to grab them via webradio? It's Fridays, of course, sorry for any confusion. Here's a Guardian UK review I got via the CTList: ubu
  2. Though I think some of the timings are wrong with those MP3s, no? Must check again, have some of these tracks on some cheapo CDs paired with more from that same tour. ubu

Well, let's hope for another nice CT broadcast courtesy of BBC3 then
  5. Not this year. You've had your share ubu
  6. Very nice price for the Monk Columbia box! Even though I will sooner or later have all the individual albums, I wouldn't want to be without the box. A real nice one!
  7. And sorry about the delay, I missed almost everything here for three weeks, y'all know why...
  8. Yup, I have it, and it's really nice. Got it on VHS (as with all self-recorded jazz films/concerts, which are few anyway). Any way to get this onto DVD? I suppose only if I send you the VHS cassette... ubu

Just in case someone still needs "da shit" [<<="Arcana Major"]
  10. Is that one worth getting for the rest of what it includes, too? The Frémeaux looks good. Although I have almost nothing they did, I really like that label. Also they send a free catalogue each year... ubu
  11. No problem. The two cuts I heard are ok, but that's the kind of music you must have more to really judge... Drake played some various percussion instruments, it seems, before finally settling on drums. I hope they will broadcast this concert!
  12. Jim, I just caught up with this thread. Terrible news! I wish you and even more so Alison all the best. I'm not the one who has prayers to offer, but you'll be in my thoughts for sure, and I really hope this takes a good turn!
  13. A funny read, yes! I don't have the set (and don't plan to get it), just in case someone wonders. I'm not into Braxton very much (yet). And I guess I would rather start with other recordings... ubu
  14. I posted this in the "rat" already, and as I took the pains to type it up, I may as well post it here, too: Here's The Wire’s review of the recent 4CD Braxton box, as well as Leo Feigin’s reply. The review also covers Andrew Cyrille/Anthony Braxton’s “Duo Palindrome” discs on Intakt, and the hatOLOGY reissue of Max Roach/Anthony Braxton, “One in Two/Two in One”. I did not type up those parts (they follow what I did type up), as Feigin did only write about his own Braxton release. Now here comes Mr. Feigin’s reply: ubu (back from fighting for God and - what to call it? It's not God's own... - country)
  15. Email sent, thanks!
  16. Here's Hodes' other Candid release (don't have it, don't know it): ubu
  17. some real bluesy caucasian (real caucasian, I might add) piano...

Did you ever get a chance to hear this one? I just did for the first time and am very impressed. Just received this CD from CD Connection. Looks like they have more in stock (and don't forget this Cecil poetry disc as well). Just ordered it there, thanks! I added the new Andrew Hill Conn, in order to evade copy protection. Also they offer them for a rather nice price. ubu
  19. available for free download here. edit: sorry, that link does not work anymore! ubu link works again, so you'll finally get a chance... enjoy! ubu

Welcome! I can't give any insight as to my own opinion, as I don't have the Standards set. However, that statement about "standard repertoire" needing "very precise playing" I do find rather strange. Leo's letter, well... The point(s) he makes in his second paragraph don't work, but it's a funny read, of course! ubu
  21. Yes, that's the same Eddie Henderson. I came to know him (like most of us, I suppose) as a member of the Mwandishi sextet, and ever since liked his playing. Finally, I just got his "Sunburst" in some sale. No time to listen yet, though. When I saw him last year with the MingusBB I found him rather disappointing and unfocused. ubu
  22. Nice to see another thread dedicated to Schweizer (please, do correct the spelling in the title!). I still don't have any of her discs, except for the Chicago Piano Solo, which I love a lot (see the other thread). Heard an hour-long programme on Swiss radio dedicated to Dollar Brand/Abdullah Ibrahim, with Schweizer being invited to present him in an interview with some radio guy. Pretty interesting to get first-hand information from her, as the Brand-influence is quite easily discernable from her playing, I'd say. Schweizer performed this year's Willisau festival in trio with Hamid Drake and Fred Anderson. I only heard two cuts on the air, but I am looking forward to hopefully hearing more (in form of a radio broadcast on swiss radio). ubu

Upon request of D.D., I typed up The Wire’s review of the recent 4CD Braxton box, as well as Leo Feigin’s reply.
