welcome - hope you find it for a decent prize, it's quite an expansive disc.
-
Oh, do you absolutely have to tell me about this? When I ordered it, half a year ago, it was around 80 Euros...
-
The Blue Note release is fantastic! I love it! Dameron's writing is so beautiful, I like that, I think, even better than Navarro's playing. Don't miss this Milestone disc: It collects most (I think) of the existing air-shots of Dameron bands with Fats. There's more around on cheapo LPs (I have three of them), but mostly those have tracks with the Winding-Eager or the Winding-Powell-Eager frontline, and no Fats (which is fine with me). ubu

quite a dastard discussion going on here

I wanted to relisten to that one a while back and could not locate it It was not right after the Sonny Clarks where it once was. The search is still on... Have that after my Sonny Clark discs - seems the most logical place to me (at least I always find it there).

Well, sorry for me using the "kitsch"-word - I half regretted it a moment after I had posted, but it was simply the first word that came to mind. I know what you mean, Dr. J., but I guess with that, I'm on Rooster's side again. It's just that I really never got into Metheny too much, and never liked the Metheny Group. Maybe the loss is mine, but there's so much music out there, and Metheny is just not the musician that really grabs my attention. I'll spin Q&A again, though, as soon as I find the time. Oh, and I like some Zappa (though I don't essentially think of him as a guitarist), but have no use whatsoever for di Meola (walked out of a concert I could attend for free after ten or fifteen minutes... rarely ever heard such horribly polished elevator music...) ubu

That will happen when Bird and Diz and Town Hall finally sees the light of day. oh yes, can you add this to my order? or shall I keep from ordering till you have that one out... seriously: I ordered the Marsh, better yesterday than today, but still better today than tomorrow, righty right?

Typical saxaphonist! You know, my hero has always been Mr. Gorelick, as he's got such a nice natchural sound
-
Hope the double! Those rehearsals are terrific to hear!

Metheny's tone is instantly recognizable. I don't know how much more personal you can get. That being true, I think what Mike means is more in a personal way, less synthetic, less, well, kitschy... (now jump on me, ye defensive, offended, and offensive guitarists!) Not a big fan, myself, though I do like "Q&A". In the same boat as Rooster with regard to the other trio discs: I guess I'd like them, but I never came around picking them up. Oh, and back in the days we all still had tapes, I had "80/81" on a tape... though mainly I was interested in Dewey. Also, recently recorded a concert of Metheny's from Austrian radio - some mighty fine (no-nonsense, no-kitsch) playing, indeed! ubu

Check out "Azalea", the master take is pure magic! Wow! Give me the goosebumps each time I hear it!

This old King certainly looks nice! When I bought an alto (a Mark VII, used, almost a decade older than the king himself...) I also had an opportunity to try out new King and Conn altos. First, being used to Selmer, I found it very very strange to handle, in fact, very uncomfortable. Second, the 30+ year old Selmer had such a GREAT sound, even with that standard stoopid A* mouthpiece I checked it out with... (I've got a Meyer mouthpiece now) ubu

Yes, and some single malts, for very special horns, such as Prez'...

Yep. And I have all of it as well. Deus, you sure about that?? I have somewhere in the basement, some 30 or 40 vinyls of rare BG releases that came out on the Sunbeam label. Bought them years ago for 1 buck each. I'm sure you don't have those. I'll sell them to you for a fortune! (What are friends for ). And then, Deus, transfer them to CD-R and send them to me, please... you know my address That´s what friends are for! yup, and then we reverse the Belgrade-Madrid-Zurich connection to Madrid-Belgrade-... I guess you get the drift deus must have money, and if not, he can make some

My introduction to Von was "Live at the Dakota", and I really really love it! "Footprints" is terrific on that disc! Also got "The Improviser" after that, and love it as well, but not as much as the Dakota disc. Will certainly have to get more Von!

Flurin, Controtempo used to be quite reliabel on Italian CDs (Soul Note / Black Saint including) a coule of years ago. However, the last couple of times I tried to place an order, theree was no response whatsoever. I would recommend going for Cadence - $15 plus reasonable shipping (if you take 5 CDs or so with surface shipping... let us know if you need recomendations for 4 more CDs). Thanks for the advice, David! But no, no need for recommendations right now... rather need to remind me about the Lowe again, later

Would love to read your thoughts and/or review of any of these when the time is right ... picked the other nine today sort of my own x-mas gift to myself (one has to find a reason and explanation, no? serious sign of addictive behaviour...) I love the design of the series. The covers are nice, all done by the same artist. The actual front covers are parts (rather small parts) of two quadratic (80X80 cm, I think) paintings, which are displayed if you open up the cardboard cover. Two paintings that sort of belong together per disc. The notes (original ones by Val Wilmer, mostly, new ones by Philippe Carles) are very nice, too, not of the learned sort, but more of the reminiscing kind, telling stories, remembering some of the recently deceased musicians (Lacy & Waldron). A real good series, in my opinion, though it will take at least a few weeks to have a first listen to all the discs. ubu

I realized, and I wondered what you meant... will try and pick up a few more in an hour or so, after work ubu

Thanks Gokhan, I never ordered from them so far, and I always forget about their existence...
