Well, I just went through the moves, Paypal was pre-filled ... should I have changed the sum myself, even when it explicitly stated 0 for shipping? Weird, but I guess that was some kind of bug.
-
Okay, I was asked to send more for shipping ... and just did so, of course. Still weird, but main thing is getting those CDs!
-
How did you manage that - on the website it states free domestic shipping or a flat $10 international shipping for up to 3 items? I have found it more economical to order from Instant Jazz, no risk of customs charges then either. Just put the two discs into my basked, entered my address etc. etc. and checked out using Paypal. Ha ha, no, I entered "Switzerland" as country and filled all the detail correctly.

Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
king ubu replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
They don't, I think? It was (is?) just some father's day special (whatever father's day is supposed to be ... of course I had put in my huge order a couple of weeks before that) -
Thanks for the reminder - just ordered mine, throwing in the recent Shipp, which I've been curious about for a while (ordered straight from the label, btw - seems they're crazy enough to offer free international shipping).

You'll surely not regret that -
Oh shit, this hurts. Big time. Will play "Lonely Woman" when I'll be home tonight. Very, very sad.

:tup Another one in a similar vein: The German "one-affirmative-fits-all" phrase best translated literally as "I am with you (on this or that matter)" which is really getting used to death, even way outside any business talks. Why can't they just say "I agree"? I for one would certainly not want each and everyone at random to be (that close) "with me". Bin ganz bei Dir! And I add: "gerne". Has crept into local dialect, likely because of the German diaspora in Zurich. Freaks me out, it's just wrong. "Bitte" is the right word to utter in reply to "thank you".

Well, ya know, the others focus on shakin' their booty as a way of communication.

Wait, wait, wait ... Seriously, I like the comparison to Incognito quite some - makes sense to me

Last Remaining Major Record Labels?
king ubu replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Basically, Warner got the classical part. Jazz went to Universal. No idea about pop ... and Universal had to divest some parts, among other things the MPS catalogue. -
Tend to agree with Allen. Only gave it one listen so far though. There are some good things on it, the trombone player namely, while otherwise much of it falls short in face of its own ambition, I think. The strings and choir arrangements aren't really taking place I found, the rhythm players are okay but not more ... and Washington, he sure can play, but I think he tries too many bags of tricks (and fails miserably in the funky one - more smooth jazz than Maceo ... and his attempts at Coltrane are pretty vain, too). Guess that might be some kind of imagination of the plight of the leader at play there. Anyway, props for trying. And yeah, enjoying the Lamar album very much (though haven't yet spun it often either, just got it). And there are no liners ar all wihh the Washington album. But full line-ups are provided, track by track. Also, since I'm editing already: most of the vocal tracks (those with actual "lead" vocals) are bad. And whoever thought the world needed a vocal version of "Cherokee" ... really?

Okay ... now please bring on some Tubbs and some Tracey and some other modern stuff!
-
Nice, indeed - thanks! Hm, second look: what happened to Jimmy Heath? Would have enjoyed more! And Sam Noto, too - but then Noto is no name that would sell, I guess.

Is that the one on RCA? I remember decades ago Coleman Hawkins naming it as one of his favorites of the year. No, don't know that one, but I'd like to hear it as well, I guess! This is the one I meant, sorry for being so unspecific: It's on Collector's Choice, and I guess it's kind of the bridge over the gap between the two Mosaics

Bud Powell on SteepleChase? Any other post '53 Powell recs?

Got such a copy myself from amazon.it two years ago (for 16 something €) ... no cracks, no mud, but wavy booklet with rusty staples, too. A friend of mine who ordered one there, too, got one in good condition (that is good, not american "good"). -
in my eyes, the musts are the ones I don't yet have ... Ju-Ju way on top, the Sanders, the McFarland, the Szabo ... and yes, "Vista" of course!

Giving it a first spin after finding it in the mailbox today - lovely!

If you are at all interested in Crosby, this is the perfect introduction. The repertoire is stellar, the accompaniment tasteful and he's in fine voice. Great sound too. A fantastic set. Yeah, I was afraid to hear something like that Don't know him really, but I will find out, sooner or later. Btw, played some of the Bing & Rosie (Clooney, that is) two disc set - and that's definitely some nice stuff! However, as with her Mosaic, I'd wish for a somewhat more interesting/committed backing band.
