What is it called? Is it good? ← Well, it's lyrical. It's good, but doesn't represent Alexandrov's thing as I know it from hearing him live. The CD is called Brink Man Ship, FMR 53: http://www.brennan.ch/discography/d_nisajo.htm ← Somehow I though you were tallking of Patrick Brennan (http://www.brickhaus.com/deepdish/home.html). But this is John Wolf Brennan, who I don't really like - exactly for excessive, even cheesy lyricism. ← To bring things back into perspective: living in Switzerland you ought to like cheesy stuff! No matter if the Russian mafia took over "funny rat"! Welcome, sahsa! Btw: someone recently set me up with a burn of Sainkho's "Letters", though a Polish (or Russian?) edition, not the Leo disc. Haven't come around listening to it yet, though.

Of course many have been mentioned... but let me throw in two new ones: Freddie Green Al Haig Then my own favourites include: Clark, Kelly, Monk, Duke, Basie. I find it hard to look at Cecil's accompanying as "comping", though it derives from just that word... still... of course I love Cecil!

What's a "repoire", dear Sir? The only word coming close I know of is "repair"... ah, those intallactuaal taaxans!
-
I was afraid already Sidewinder wanted to steal this one from my credit card, too! But then I forgot friend 'Sidney' is one of those vinyl-snobs... anyway, I won't talk to those MOR fans anymore!

I assume Mike is aware by now that his chances are intact only in his dreams, so go ahead and delete this whenever you want.

Passed one of the shops with those fatal summer sales... bought, for ca. 60 €, all new: - Craig Taborn: Junk Magic - Eric Kloss: First Class! - Joe Lovano: I'm all for you (copycrap) - Bu: Like Someone in Love (copycrap RVG) - Aki Takase: plays Fats Waller - Lee Konitz: More Live-Lee - Stanko: Suspended Night - Anders Jormin: In winds, in light - Abercrombie: Class Trip - Crispell Trio: Storyteller

My credit card will hammer on my head to play the set for it, so it won't take three months! Also, I have a trick: I'll spin the Conn right now, thus your chances are: nil, zilch, zero!

Austrian radio that is. Bennie played piano, bass clarinet, soprano, and tenor on that gig, backed by two able austrian rhythm players (or was one of them German?). We could vine this one here, if there's interest - what do you mean? ← Count me in! ← No others interested?

Happy birthday, Late!

An email from Paypal just told me that my credit card got hold of this set! It said to my mantra-repeating self: go foutre in the air, and sent the money
-
Thanks for thinking of me... I want it, but no, I have a strong will, I have a strong will not to buy even more, I have a strong will not to buy even more music that will stay on the shelf for a year without being listened to... (continue, mantra-like)

I have heard Garcia-Fons, but the instrument in question does not sound like a bowed double bass ..... did you check the liner? I will order this anyway ... ← Yup, no Minafra, Favre and Bsiri on that cut! ← Also, if that adds any: I immediately recognized his fumbling madness when listening to the disc - I never saw him live, but have two of his "Oriental Bass" gigs (Willisau and Zurich/jazznojazz, from 2001 and 2000, respectively), that studio disc, plus the trio set I mentioned before, and it was clear that it was him. Of course he also appears on the Trovesi Midsummernight's Dream disc (that I love a lot) - for those live gigs he was mostly replaced by Giovanni Maier, but he made the "Jazz'n'more" in Munich, in June 2000.

AOTW June 14-20: Ted Curson "Tears for Dolphy"
king ubu replied to clifford_thornton's topic in Album Of The Week
Woods can be heard on this TCB release with Clark Terry: Horace Parlan is on piano, Victor Sproles is on bass, and Bobby Durham on drums. The disc/group is co-led by Terry & Woods. Serious fun! I see Counterpoint lists it for 16$. -

Michel Legrand -- Le Cinema De Michel Legrand
king ubu replied to a topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
No idea if this one is good. But Michel Legrand is a clever and inspired arranger/composer. Jazz content on this anthology should be nil but there is bound to be good easylistening music. Thought highly of his score for Agnes Varda's 'Cleo de 5 a 7' where he appeared on screen and was shown composing and playing piano! Trust you have 'Legrand Jazz'! Essential! ← Yes on "Legrand Jazz"! (Though I still have the old Phillips CD - will have to get the Universal Digipack reissue, I assume, but they're not distributed that widely). I also have his nice but not essential JinP release, "Paris Jazz Piano". I assume I'm not having to get this box... now no one step in and tell me how great it is, please! couw: I'll burn it as soon as I can and give it a spin! -

I grabbed it, but I'm embarassed to say I haven't heard it yet... no need for a bigger box, I guess, if I can't even remember that I got this one! -

Is this a good one? brownie? anyone? -
new Mosaic set for..... drum roll please...
king ubu replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'll probably pick this up, but I'm in the same boat as Drj - too many others to get first - I never yet bought a Mosaic when it was new, never pre-ordered one... don't have any selects except for the Weston so far (and want probably all except the Pepper Omega/Aladdin). -
yes, thanks!
