  1. Woods can be heard on this TCB release with Clark Terry: Horace Parlan is on piano, Victor Sproles is on bass, and Bobby Durham on drums. The disc/group is co-led by Terry & Woods. Serious fun! I see Counterpoint lists it for 16$.
  2. Austrian radio that is. Bennie played piano, bass clarinet, soprano, and tenor on that gig, backed by two able austrian rhythm players (or was one of them German?). We could vine this one here, if there's interest - what do you mean?
  3. No idea if this one is good. But Michel Legrand is a clever and inspired arranger/composer. Jazz content on this anthology should be nil but there is bound to be good easylistening music. Thought highly of his score for Agnes Varda's 'Cleo de 5 a 7' where he appeared on screen and was shown composing and playing piano! Trust you have 'Legrand Jazz'! Essential! ← Yes on "Legrand Jazz"! (Though I still have the old Phillips CD - will have to get the Universal Digipack reissue, I assume, but they're not distributed that widely). I also have his nice but not essential JinP release, "Paris Jazz Piano". I assume I'm not having to get this box... now no one step in and tell me how great it is, please! couw: I'll burn it as soon as I can and give it a spin!
  4. I grabbed it, but I'm embarassed to say I haven't heard it yet... no need for a bigger box, I guess, if I can't even remember that I got this one!
  5. Is this a good one? brownie? anyone?
  6. I'll probably pick this up, but I'm in the same boat as Drj - too many others to get first - I never yet bought a Mosaic when it was new, never pre-ordered one... don't have any selects except for the Weston so far (and want probably all except the Pepper Omega/Aladdin).
  7. Happy Birthday, Stefan!
  8. Well, stay assured the only swiss jazz fan remembers him and likes this album discussed here a lot! Other than that I have his Terrones/Marge/Blue Marge whatever label disc, "Cattin'" - not as fine, but good enough!
  9. Of course, there's no "greatest." That said, to me, "Giant Steps" sounds like the history and future of jazz saxophone all rolled into one of the most amazingly soulful and technical achievements possible on any instrument. ← How about "Spiral"? I think when I first heard the Atlantic box, that one knocked me out even more!
  10. But then Bsiri does not appear on that track, I think (need to check with the booklet), so it has to be Garcia-Fons, anyway. Galeazzi is the singer, I know that since I checked this with the booklet back when I made my BFT notes. Don't think Bsiri is on this track (Favre, either, but again I'm going from memory, and also Minafra does not appear.)
  11. Mike, it was much simpler: the bass fiddle Seriously: get an earful of this one: And you will believe me in a minute! Fons is all over that bass, doing crazy stuff with it, and still it all makes musical sense. I haven't checked out the discs he put out after this one, but heard a live concert (on radio) of a trio of his with a flamenco guitarist and a percussionist - some quite beautiful music, too! And he, too, fits in with that mediterranean music.
  12. Hey, wait a minute, I always thought it was Joe Maini's organ... now if it's Stitt's... that is so confusing, I tell you!
  13. I think I prefer Trane on the Master take of "Flamenco Sketches", but it's been some time since I listened to either take... "Chasin' the Trane" would be way up on my list, also "Blue Train". And probably some of the solos on the upcoming Monk disc, too, since those three cuts on the "Monk/Coltrane" disc are magnificient!
  14. But then who needs this? Who's been waiting? Watch the original, what a moving film! This will be all glossy and full of special effects that add up to nothing but a mediocre film, no? (Why are Hollywoof films looking dead? Because of all the technical computerised stuff?) (Sorry for the rant... says the purist and takes his hat from this thread.)
  15. music to watch Fellini by?
  16. I have never heard of this one. Please let me know what you think of it when you have a chance to listen to it! ← Fits right in! Disc 1 has traditional Banda music, brass band/harmony music, with four flugelhorns (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) playing the vocal parts of opera arias... may sound wierd, but somehow I came to like it. There's the mediterranean feel to it that this kind of music lacks here. There's a warmth and that slight imperfection and that sound... Disc 2 then features the big shots mentioned on the cover, Breuker, Matinier, Tommaso, Godard... and their compositions, which are partly based on other Italian stuff (there's a long Fellini medley, which is cool, since ubu loves Rota very very very much). Also you need to add this one here, when you order some Italian Enja releases, anyway: An all 'round fantastic set!
  17. this one has really grown on me and is perhaps the one I'd most likely to check out in full.. thanks ← You should do so! It's a beautiful one!

    Funny Rat

Will try to do the same (but then I can't come to Mulhouse, but I may not be able to afford that anyway, will have to do some calculations...)
  19. ... And I´ll check the LPR "Kirk in Copenhagen" again tonight, but I´m afraid it does not give exact information. ← It only says "October 1963". ← Same as the box - crappy!

Alright, P.L.M. - send that check! 500 € should do for a start!
  21. Here's the setlist of the long version (115 min) that is part of the first Trane Tree: 1. The Promise 2. Afro Blue 3. I Want to Talk About You 4. Impressions 5. My Favorite Things 6. Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye 7. Mr. P.C. (Not nearly as good sound as the re-broadcast of #2-5).
  22. Marcello, not sure your transfer would be worth all the work... Guy has a burn of the recent radio re-broadcast, in pristine mono. I have that one as well, it sounds really really good, as Guy says, and the music is great! You'd rather want to look around to get a copy of that re-broadcast than invest too much work and time into transferring a boot that will probably not sound half as good!
