Well obviously where you live the world is upside down, that's why you call it down under, maybe... Nevertheless, "Some Comination" is a terrific album also for us who stand on their feet!
  2. I'll have to spin this one soon: That's the one I first heard Stubblefield... one of the first jazz discs I heard.
  3. Bill Holman? Stoopid muzak! Bah! Big fan of Brookmeyer and Geru here... their music has a freshness that continues to be striking still today. Not your usual run-of-the-mill hardbop crap that those weird Germans in New York produced... you know, all those boring albums by overrated guys like Horace Silver, Art Blekey (sp?), Hank Mobley, Jackie McLean and all those other boring fellas. ← you just mentioned four of the greatest names in jazz history, so you like sarcasm too, thats cool....... ← To each his own... for me Mulligan and Pepper and Brookmeyer are just as much "great names" as Blakey and Silver and company!

Glad to see that Leo has come to his senses with download prizes! ← ← oh well.. and after that again up to 10$? Guess I ought to get a few, then! How long will summer last? It's already over here!

  8. ...only that la Vitti looked 100 times better (to say the very least...) than this lady, even on her worst day... ubu
  9. Happy Birthday, Randy! (though it seems a bad day to )
  10. Oh my God! I sure hope all our UK members and their beloved ones are alright!
  11. The "label" is really rollin' out those 10-CD boxes: List New (I think): Goodman Parker Reinhardt Fitzgerald Waller Armstrong My problem is that I probably have 50% to 100% of all the stuff, but I might still go for them. BTW: these have been regularly fetching prices around Euro 20 and more although they can all be had from JPC (Germany) for 9.99 (and probably 2001 as well). ← And do they all have no booklet, not personnel/date/location info, or is that just the Artie Shaw? I have one of their 2CD releases (the Sonny Stitt), and while the liners are shit, the photos stolen from all over, there is at least a (correct, as far as I can tell) discography in there...
  12. That's the one I'm going to go for first. Need some more of June's recordings for my weekends. ← You're buying EMI's cactuses? I'd rather send them one to shove up... well, you get the picture
  13. Happy Birthday, Barak, and all the best!

I remember having read a quite enthusiast review (though by some swiss critic, and with one or one and a half exceptions, they don't know sh*tte).
  16. Thanks for looking closer than me
  17. Can't tell, but an Amazon search only yields the Getz/Johnson disc. Who's the one you're talking about by? Herbie?

Gorgeous music indeed. I'm grateful to P.L.M. for recommending this one way-back-when at AAJ forum - no way would I have learnt about this disc otherwise. Don't have the Bley one, but I remember P.L.M. mentioned it was relatively weak. ← Yes. And he also likes the Oliva best, I think. Will have to spin all of these soon, again (and for the first time, in case of the Bley). Oliva was artist in residence at this year's "Bleu sur Scènes" festival in Paris. He played several duos with partners of his choice (Susanne Abbüehl was one of them - he has replaced her original piano player on some occassions... or maybe for good, I don't know that), and France musiques has just broadcasted the first part of the set they did record, with Oliva & Joey Baron. Second part will be broadcasted after their summer break, will try and catch it, too.
  19. French reissue, I think. As I said, I don't have it handy. It's up for takers on French Amazon. A great one, I may add!
  20. R.I.P. Saw him once with the Mingus BB, but he was looking tired, and remained seated when soloing (only twice in two sets, anyway). Too young!
  21. Great one! Wish I had it here! (But I still need to spin some Per Henrik Wallin, as far as memorial listening goes.) ← I've got it ... It just replaced Goodman at Brussels 1 & 2 on my C D player. ← There are some beautiful arrangements on this one! Some with soprano part of the reeds - not that usual back then, was it?
