No, not part of the LPR series. Part of what appears to be a new series--Verve (or Decca in the case of the Raney) "Originals". Jewel cases with a 4-page insert that depicts the original cover's front and back, and otherwise contains only personnel and track information (including original master numbers) and the original liner notes. ... Sounds like the latest of the LPRs looked over here (Lateef, Ayler...) Only that remastering semed to be different (worse) over here, too (see discussion of "Psychicemotus" elsewhere). Why can't they stick with the nice digipack design? Whoever invented those ugly jewel cases... head off (says this humble king )!

The rights to the music in films continues to be a problem. I know that an enrire scene from "Billion Dollar Brain" (semi-classic 60s cold war thriller, also featuring Michael Cane) was cut from the recent DVD release because it prominently featured a Beatles tune, and it couldn't be re-scored as someone is seen playing a Beatles LP and even showing the record cover. This is so stupid. Why not just consider it product placement and make the Beatles' estate pay for that?

for those who missed out the cheap Universal Mosaics
king ubu replied to tjobbe's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I hate these things... I better hurry home after work tonight and do a closer check on my Dexter and Evans boxes! Didn't see anything on a first quick scan, but I haven't had any disc in the player yet! -
I've got the beeb webcast (in crappy quality, alas) on a CDR and can vouch* for it being very good! *) edit: not that this would convince anyone...

happy huppy! hope you'll have a good one (even though I still didn't send you those Randy Weston CDs...) have one on me!

Derek Bailey tribute on BBC Radio now online
king ubu replied to David Ayers's topic in Miscellaneous Music
you can also play this humle king's db radio show here: ubu roi's hommage à derek bailey this will be online forever and a day. there's plenty of music, but you won't understand the talking parts, I suppose... -
40$ plus 10$ shipping plus 10$ for doing a money order... sorry, but that's verging on the ridiculous. It was discussed in the CT list, and some there seemed to agree. Pity though, as I'd love to see it, and I bet it won't ever make it to TV over here. I rememeber in the CT list some felt that the director made the impression on them that he didn't really want to share his film... weird, isn't it? I'd rather suppose he'd want to sell it and get at least some of the money back that he must have spent on this project... but not for 40$ plus....

To offer a wee bit of further help to our germanophile friends... this notification email (the first one, subject "Bestellung bei Zweitausendeins: [order-no]". A day or so later you'll get another mail, this time a personal one, from said Mr. Luening (subject: "Ihre Bestellung - Kunden-Nr.: [your customer-no.]"). In that mail, you can see if all your items are there for delivery ("Alle gewuenschten Artikel sind lieferbar..."). I suppose that if you do not see that line ("Alle gewunschten...") you drop Mr. Luening a mail and ask for explanation/help. -

Well, that would be a bit drastic, then... instead just let me mention that back in that *other* zweit/zyx-boxes sale two years or so ago, I *did* get the Evans Fantasy, for, if memory serves me right, around 15 euro-zlotys... that should be punishment enough -

Otherwise just drop a mail here: sluening[at]zweitausendeins[dot]de - he seems to do all the customer support for online orders, and is very kind in doing so. He will also answer in english, it seems! -

That's Step 4 of the ordering process. I get "Per Bankeinzug" (works with German bank accounts only) and "Per Kreditkarte" (only outside of Germany), there you can choose your card and enter your data. Or you should be able to, at least. -
The freedom Riviera? The freed Riviera? The fried Riviera? The freedomized Riviera? The sodomized Riviera? All that is to add: Dizzy for President!

Do you borrow / lend out cds from your collection?
king ubu replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Usually I just give discs to two good friends. Nobody else closeby would have much interest... I give those two pretty much anything, knowing that I'll get it back, and knowing I can have whatever from them, too (including stuff like OOP FMP LPs or large boxes of classical music...) They usually even replace broken jewel cases without me having to ask for... I also gave someone else a Mosaic (the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh) with no fear - I got several LPs from him for a lengthy time period, stuff like Tristano's Maelstrom and a Braxton Arista, as well as other rare items. Never really lost anything, just one or two pop/funk discs, ten years ago. It's more likely that I consider something lost that I just misplaced somewhere within my own collection (right now that's Sheila Jordan's "Portrait of Sheila", but I'm pretty sure one day it will turn up again). -
Pretty bad excuse! EAC and some cheap software can do that job... But the 4CD package is great, anyway!

I enjoy the few bits of Tusques I know very much. This is the only actual CD I own, and it's fantastic: A swinging, warm, blues- and emotion-drenched date, with Denis Colin (bcl) and Noel McGhie (d). It's on the Tranes Européennes label, listed on the site David mentioned above, too.

Very sad news (I guess it's to be considered a major achievement making brownie dance through the aisles! )

The John Lewis album is terrific! I like this "more organized" hardbop very much -it's just not so lose around its corners as say Blakey or your usual Blue Note blowing date. Not that one thing is better, but sometimes the lose ends are just a bit too unorganized, and then the Jazztet is perfect. About Pepper: that's a *great* one! I got the small edition back in that other sale, a couple of years ago. I was tempted to go for it again (as well as the Wes Riverside ) but now that there are some boxes available that are really new to me, it was easy to make the decision. -

holy holy! another 100 € gone... both Bill Evans boxes (after that all I miss, as far as Evans boxes go, is the "Secret Sessions" box...), the Dexter box, plus the recent Bud Powell, "Bebop", for 3 eurozlotys. this should be great! I have not heard any of the Evans, only got one ("The Panther!") of the Prestige Dexters, and have been watching that Powell for a long time (this was the third instalment of the Paris stuff, yes? I also miss the second one...) -
I've seen it in a store here yesterday, BUT still no trace of my Amazon France ordered set!?!

Happy birthday!

The Moore disc is great! About the Pepper and Paich feat. Pepper: why did one end up on Fantasy/OJC and the other in the V.S.O.P. catalogue? (I assume V.S.O.P. would be the "regular" place?)
