  1. Just ordered the Ella & Louis set... thanks! The Miles Jack Johnson is also pretty cheap (long box version, I guess, didn't check)
  2. Chuck, do you know if anything is missing on the five CDs, as compared to the Mosaic? Same question for Mingus (where I think nothing is missing, but don't know for sure)! IIRC the Taylors miss one take of Air. Not sure about the Mingus. Thanks Chuck!
  3. Chuck, do you know if anything is missing on the five CDs, as compared to the Mosaic? Same question for Mingus (where I think nothing is missing, but don't know for sure)!
  4. I've drunk an Eku 28 (an alcohol content of 11% !) What about a Samichlaus, brown beer of 13,7 % from Switzerland (Hürlimann in Zurich, and also Austria I think) ? Thanks again Never had an Eku, and never a Samichlaus, either... there's a tradition of brewing those seasonal/x-mas beers, but except for the excellent one done by St. Gall brewerey Schützengarten, I've never had any of those. Beer from Zurich usually sucks, badly - even (sad to say) the two or three new your breweries produce mediocre beer. The large ones are all Felschlösschen, which again is owned by that criminal against the world of beer, Heineken (lousiest beer that most people seem to drink without noticing!) End of rant, let's open another one, that's more fun!
  5. Sad news (but not unexpected news, sad to say). I'm a big fan of Griffin's and I wish he'd never stop playing with that huge sound of his... but it seems he's had a few drinks too many, and he's an elderly man by now. He made a weak impression when I saw him several years ago (in trio with Solal and the late NHOP - must have been three or four years ago). At the Village Vanguard, 1994 (photo coutesy of Kal Reece)
  6. This may be a plus in some's eyes, but some of the ZYX discs also miss alternate takes/additional material that was on the US releases/ZYX pressings (i.e. Cannonball & Milt Jackson "Things Are Getting Better").
  7. Definitely one of my favourite (jazz) photographers. Very sad news He also shot one of my favourite Sinatra photographs:
  8. Leo indeed allows only word by word translations, but it's just as good as any printed dictionnary.
  9. I can feel you pain... I ordered for 150 €, including all the Ellingtons, the Contemporary Story, Debut Story, Ella & Basie 4CD sets, and a bunch of OJCs (I did not order any that I clearly identified as being 20bit ZYXs, thnough - usually I think one can tell from the description, and if there's a pic, the ones with black frames are 20bit ZYX digipacks, mostly).
  10. The box set does not include all of these ... maybe there's another box coming, although the rest doesn't merit a 10-CD set? What a great series that was/is (most of the ones listed above are OOP, but there have been 10 or so later releases last year: Solal Vol. 4, Bechet/Solal, Piazolla/Schifrin, Bebop in Paris Vols. 1 & 2 and a few more - there's a thread about those, somewhere). That box would certainly be worth getting for someone who doesn't have any of the individual discs!
  11. after their re-design, they dropped the english version...but send me a PM and let me know what you need, I might be able to help with "enhanced personal translation services" Cheers, Tjobbe With the help of a web-dictionary, managed to navigate the site (at snail's pace), add stuff to the cart and complete the order. Thanks for the offer anyhow! I guess you used http://dict.leo.org for that? Just spreading the word for that excellent site - it may help others who have the same problem you had!
  12. sounds great, thanks for spreading word!
  13. Hi Steven! Sorry for being late to the party, but I hope you still accept my best wishes! Have a Belzebuth on me tonight!
  14. Strange enough I didn't post it as a link, just as normal text - but then once I posted it, part of it turned into a link... main thing it works! Yup! Great show, BTW! I'd rather listen to you in German than some English-speaking American DJs! Thanks! I hope you didn't realize that I tried to squeeze in some english (quotes from some of McLean's liner notes)...

  22. On Sunday I did my Jackie McLean memorial show. Music was played from "Jackie's Bag", "New Soil", "Let Freedom Ring", "Destination Out" and "Action" - the period I love the most, and the period where I feel McLean went through a fascinating development. Here's the link to the show: http://195.210.0.134:554/ramgen/lora/archi...00&title=Sonus: Musik im Gespräch&author=Sonntag, 16.04.2006©right=©2006 Radio LoRa 97,5 (for whatever reason I can't post it as link, so you have to copy the whole thing and enter it into a web-browser window to open it!) Following the first tune, there's lots of talk that you ignunts in swiss german may skip, after that it's mainly music. R.I.P. Jackie, thanks for all the great music!
  23. Happy birthday, Erik! I wish you all the best!
  24. The Dean Benedetti Book is quite a tome as well. Don't make me start regretting not getting the Mildred set. Damn !.. Me? I didn't do anything!
