    Funny Rat

Wasn't there someone on AAJ with insights into the MPS programme? I never thought they'd reissue any of the freer stuff (like CT), but maybe I just didn't notice? ************************************ Just ordered two titles from Limited Sedition - very last copy of the second one, it seems:
  2. Let's have some of your favourite beverage tonight, some good music, and enjoy! I hope all's well even though you have been absent for almost a month by now, anyway here's congratulations and best wishes! (edited for spellink)
  3. I only have his hatOLOGY disc, "Ghostly Thoughts", but there are some posts about him in the funny rat thread, you may try a search there!
  4. ... Ubu, I think you got me wrong, I have not yet turned it in but still have some things to add and (especially) livein the constant fear that my advisor will ave some more ideas about potential changes, additions... i have a job from October on but until then I have to turn the thesis in, get the Mingus, present the thesis twice, do a horrible final examination, probably move to another appartment... so at the moment I am also looking forward very much to being finished but I doubt this state will last long after October... cheers with your box sets, niko Ah, I see... sorry! Good luck, then! That will make you a doctor (PhD) or what? I'm still struggling with what will eventually be an master's degree, but in fact (due to me still studying along old rules and regulations) it's quite a bit more work, it seems...
  5. Someone made a burn for me - never saw this anywhere. Will have to play it again to be able to say anything about it. Same applies to the other duos of theirs I have, "Sempre Amore", "Communiqué", "Live at Dreher" and one more of which I can't remember the title right now. Of the group albums has been mentioned, "One-Upmanship" (Enja) is a terrific album! The Free America discs I'd only recommend to those able/willing to cope with some of the outer, wilder, free things of that era... I'm not quite sure myself how much I like them. Oh, I just see Waldron is only on one of them, anyway... The early OJC is ok, I assume, and probably one of my favourite Monk albums without Monk, but I think all Monk without Monk is ultimatley problematic. Still, I'd love to hear that 4CD thing, but I guess it's pretty unlikely I'll ever find it. Koch has such a lousy distribution here, I think I may have a total of 4 or 5 Koch Jazz discs. The duo albums and also "One-Upmanship" should be much more immediately accessible even for listeners with no love for free or out music at all.
  6. you know, actually at least in terms of symbolic capital, merikins don't speak no enrish anyway!
  7. definitely and I am just glad I didn't see it when it was still fresh. so this is probably the only thing of importance to happen on the board while you were away (although you were almost or actually back again)... ignoFant merikiN? [edited to make quotations work correctly]
  8. Just to lose contenance again for a second FN amish, FN quakers, FN mennonites, FN merikins (I like that spellink since it puts them merikins so close to them FN mexikins, you know). An apology would indeed be welcome - there's really no point at all for that post above, and my first reaction was much too moderate.
  9. Great news about it being the big box! But no, no shipping mail yet... hoping for tomorrow, otherwise we'll only know next week! And Niko: congrats on handing in your diploma thesis... will take me another ca. 1,5 to 2 years to finish off, and I'm by now at a point where I'm envious of anyone who's close to being done with studying! (Although what comes after is of course even more insecure, but...)
  10. in the spirit of the above Ella Concert Years recommendation, here's a few others that I got in my first (of what's now three) orders this time: - the 4CD Basie Pablo compilation - probably about as much late Basie as I need (I have tons of 30s/40/50s early 60s discs...) - and the Ellington Carnegie Hall concerts ************************************ So can anyone confirm by now that the Debut 12CD set is the big-sized box with booklet etc.?
  11. I saw you were posting yesterday a while after I sent my PM, so I was wondering! Let me get a new haircut first, willya
  12. Hm, seems to be working now. 7/4 sent me a PM and I was able to answer, or so it seems!
  13. I tried to write a few PMs during the last four hours or so, and none would be sent. I get an error message that the page I was trying to retrieve was unreachable. At least I can use the "save (send later)"-function. Anyone else has this problem? In case you got your PMs, even though they are not among my sent items (yes, I did put a hook in the respective field), speak up, couw, JohnS, Niko!
  14. Oh, I mis-read your post, sorry! I guess the McKusick is on the endangered list, I ought to get it as long as it's still around!
  15. It's part of the sale (although not for me moronic yurpeen): http://concordmusicgroup.com/artists/album/?id=2816
  16. Thanks! I tried twice to reply to your PM but I got two error messages... sorry if it went through twice!
  17. And if us yurpeens are allowed to post here about zweitausendeins sale finds, despite the merikin jazz police closely watching, here's one that I enjoy a lot:
  18. in case you think there's no european jazz or music that's genuine, you're about as narrow-minded as the above post is... just because you don't know doesn't mean it's not there... (i'm not french, btw)
  19. Aren't some of these out on Savoy again?
  20. It's a Jazzdeau, right! Alas I was born too late to ever see one, but it's been one of my favourite animals ever since I remember... I had that little book, "Dilbert and the Dodo" by Kate Robinson and James Hart... loved it - probably still have it somewhere, torn into pieces...
  21. Can you provide more info, please? What tunes from what date? And why would they have been omitted from the set?
  22. All (? most?) of that was reissued by 32jazz - great discs, most of them! Then some cheapo UK label did a 2CD set with the four full albums of which 32jazz did the compilation of that title. Dig the ugly covers!
  23. something is fishy here, 's like you are looking for an alibi. So to be on the safe side, let's blame it all on catesta for a change... That's the standard procedure anyway, and I see no reason to change that...
  24. Congrats, Ronald! I must have missed this thread when it was up and I guess there's no need for help by now! The only thing I might have is a setlist for the Osby/New Connexion concert from Schaffhausen, but I do remember I wasn't able to match the names with the actual music (I have four tracks and five titles or something, but the radio chaps said it was the complete concert, so most likely one track is a medley, but since these are all unknown tunes to me, I can't really tell...)
  25. 'Lonely Star' - It's the third of the disks with Chet Baker's Prestige material with Kirk Lightsey and George Coleman. Very nice they are too - the others are 'Stairway To The Stars' and 'On A Misty Night'. Ah, I see... ok ones, yes - but I have the five digipack 20bit discs of these sessions... Oh, would someone order the "This is Criss" for me and send it my way? I missed that one
