I would assume no, as that discography seems to aim at a complete Joe Castro discography, not merely a listing of what's in the box. Disc three is the one that could contain it, but it seems to be quite full with other recordings.

Depends on how you define "really a fan of the Jaco period" ... Sangrey made those points already. Similar here: studio-wise, prefer the earlier albums, but live, the band keeps holding up interest. So this new set might in fact be of way more interest than the studio box (plus it's pretty cheap over here, the US pre-order price seems to be kind of a joke).

Guess I'll skip then, having both the Tutu deluxe edition (that live set isn't particularly great, they could have done better, but it was probably the one that fit best, setlist wise) and that earlier Warner set (which adds plenty of Miles' cameo tracks but omits the live recordings and only includes excerpts from "Dingo", not sure if it's the same with "Siesta" but that one is among the albums I've also got on single discs).

Furthermore, albums like "Tutu" or "Amandla" aren't shit, keep trying Anyways, I wonder, as does JCR, what the additional material might be, the originally planned box was supposed to contain six discs only, it seems, so either there's more or it's been re-grouped or whatever. Of course I feel dumb now, having that five disc set.

Somewhat ambivalent about the Dave Pike Set (and Pike in general) ... four of the MPS studio albums (all but "Album" if I'm not mistaken) were reissued by Universal Germany in 2011 (part of the "Most Perfect Sound" edition that should rather have revived stuff like the Archie Shepp and Cecil Taylor albums, but it is what is, or rather was what it was). As a group, the quartet is pretty good, they're groove, rooted by J.A. Rettenbacher's soulful double bass and the flexible beats of Peter Baumeister, is really nice, while Pike and Volker Kriegel weave their lines and textures in and out of it ... as soloists, none of them holds my attention. Makes for good background listening and I guess if you're into that stuff it could be a nice sonic texture for some kinds of trips ... There was also one live album, reissued by Promising Music (the label that also brought "Dear Prof. Leary", "Fly Fly Fly Fly Fly" or "Afro-Disiaca" back but no longer has access to MPS masters now the ownership changed) - I guess I'd recommend that one ... or maybe the "Masterpieces" compilation from Motor Music (who did some MPS reissues in the mid 90s) - used copies available: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000024S2O

wtf indeed! Will they follow up with a mono edition later? As far as I know, Impulse only did mono as fold downs though, so I don't get the point of including mono versions in the first place -- the "thrill" of hearing what Trane heard, returning home from the sessions?
