Crocodile falls 12 floors in escape bid

Because I guess very few Russians have very much more money than they can use... that's democracy Putin's way, with his Putin youth and other infiltration... -
I wonder what they'll actually ship your way - please let us know!

Yes, that one. Only one of his leader albums I have. I don't care that much for the artwork/packaging stuff... of course I like well-done box sets and nice photos, but the main thing is the music... as for Selects, I don't like how they're designed a lot, but with the normal boxes having gotten so big, I think they're a great idea. I like a lot some of those 3CD and 4CD big ones I have (Jacquet, Thad Jones, Sam Rivers, Blue Mitchell, to name a few) and think it's somewhat a pity that these small ones are now only possible as Selects... Anyway, this should be about Pomery... so where could I continue looking for more?

You'll find only few members here are really into any kind of freer stuff... there used to be this very active thread here, but it's come to almost a halt of late: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=5071 The Wadada album is fine (better, I think, than the yellow one on Tzadik). Two I just picked up are the second of Billy Bang's Vietnam albums (liked the first one quite a bit) and one of AEC's Pi Recordings, [sirius calling]. Haven't played them yet, though... Not sure if Kahil El'Zabar goes under free... I also got that live set of his with Billy Bang (the band's made up of Yoron Israel and Ari Brown), where they do that great groovy homage to Malachi. All together though I found the disc too long to really sustain interest... -
yes, of course I know... i have 4000 CDs NOT by Mosaic... (and 50 Mosaics...) just I don't think nobody bothers to put out any of Pomeroy's Roulette stuff these days (I have one disc on Freshsound - one of their ugly 80s releases).

Complete Capitol Recordings Krupa/James
king ubu replied to wesbed's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Played all four of the Krupa discs plus the 1945/46 Krupa Classics (only Classics I have, recently found on sale) - very nice stuff! Some of the singing I could live without, but there's plenty of good playing by Charlie Ventura (yeah, got to take the Ventura/Phillips out of the shelf again soon!), Red Rodney and Charlie Kennedy. The arrangements and tunes and all are nice, good quality stuff in many cases, I assume... and Krupa is great, most of the time! Glad I got this one (still have yet to play the James stuff all the way through... Willie Smith is the main reason some of it may really be interesting, I gues...) -
Interesting thread here... I quite agree with clem & chuck on Spaulding - interesting colour/vibe, and yes, those long lines have a certain charm in a setting they fit in or add something - I like his part in quite a few of those BN albums. About Bunky Green, I don't know any of his early stuff, but I love him with his european quartet (Eric Legnini on piano, Rosario Bonaccorso on bass and Franck Agulhon on drums). His sound is huge by now, and his playing is mature, almost overflowing with emotion at times - the kind of alto sound I love in a mainstream setting. Also he's quite a great blues player...
-
Sad news I don't have much of his music, though... would be a good case for a Mosaic Select, I guess.
-
Also all the missing Lateefs, the four Randy Westons, the Patterson/Ervin Legends of Acid Jazz, too...
-
Is that Andy Scherrer the tenor sax and piano player? Didn't know he also was good enough to record on drums! Wow! Who's Ben Thompson, never heard of him...

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
king ubu replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
disc 2 now - those trio sides are funny... the parody done by Elvin & Stan Getz in one of their Verve sessions is indeed great fun! Just started disc 4 - pretty nice stuff, I must say! Lots of good Ventura and some fine Charlie Kennedy and Red Rodney (up to disc 3, that is) as well! -

And several I've given up hope on finding (Lucky's "Happy Days", Woody Shaw's "Song of Songs", Don Patterson's "New York Dues", for instance), and many that are probably tough to find (stuff such as Lennie Niehaus' series on Contemporary). and also the RVGs of Wes Montgomery's "Full House" and the Cannonball Quintet - though these (as the Garland Prelude) are likely not going OOP too soon... but I got them cheap (and the Garland I got since I just wanted some by him, got it with Groovy).

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

last night: Gene Krupa disc 1 - to be continued today if I'm in the mood for more big band music... -
I fairly recently picked up "Swinging Macedonia" - great one! The Nathan Davis looks good - I've liked what little I've heard of his (mainly the "Two Originals" MPS disc from the late 90s) - who's on that one, besides Dusko? The Nada Jovic disc pictured above I have, too, as well as the Ensayo version of "After Hours" (titled "Ten to Two Blues"). There's another fine album done a day before "AFter Hours" with Ferdinand Povel added on tenor, "It's About Blues Time". I think there's been a Freshsound CD issue of that one - here's the cover (tough to find online, hence my own saved jpg): By the way, right now, a short 1971 show of Dusko's is running on dime (courtesy of yours truly), for those interested...

Help My Wife and I Eat Better and Lose Weight
king ubu replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Funny thread... I lost 13 kg in 3 1/2 months by changing diet... less carbohydrates, more vegetables and more meat (not because I'd want that, but just because you have to eat something more than salad if you can't eat no rice, no pasta, no potatoes... or just a very small amount of them). then, use olive oil, nothing else - no butter either... you'll get used to it quickly no or little alcohol, and if, make it wine, not beer. not sure about coffee.... I had none in the first month or so, but now I'm having some again, almost daily... doesn't seem to make any difference with me. if you eat pasta, eat it "al dente", otherwise it will have a much higher impact on blood sugar. if you eat rice, go for basmati, not your usual uncle ben's long korn one - less impact on blood sugar, too (that't the general idea we - me and mère ubu, that is, our cat was excluded, she still gets her high end top notch darn expensive stuff... - pursued... the guy who's making a living from that concept's called Montillac or something... his concept is to omit food that has a high impact on blood sugar, hence you eat generally less carbohydrates and if you do, there's a list of stuff that's good and stuff that's not - worst are potaters in any form, beer, bread except whole-grain - another thing you'll get used to quickly. also, eat breakfast (I never did), but don't eat normal milk-products, rather go for the low fat joghurts, cream (if need be) etc. about cheese, I think you shouldn't eat it in the morning, and of course - someone pointed that out - not in the night, just as you should not eat anything heavy too late. rather go for another fruit or a joghurt, instead of cookies or ice-cream... and some fruite are evil, such as banana (and I think kiwi, too), but most is ok - i've never eaten as much as in these past months, apples, grapes, berries of any kind, peaches etc. anyway, I also started running two to three times a week again, after 10 years with no sports at all... feeling great! -

There was George Coleman's fine mid-size group, too... when was that, mid 80s, roughly? And here's another Bennie Wallace thread - no need to worry about me being a fan, I have plenty of Miles and Monk and Duke in my collection

Jim, I see your point regaring change being a challenge and a good one for any artist... but still, even though some change may go in the right direction for the artist, it may go also in a direction that makes his work less interesting, capturing, less special, less idiosyncratic, whatever... and hence not be so attractive to a particular segment of the public, any longer (and usually make him more attractive to another segment at the same time). Happens all of the time, no matter if with jazz musicians, painters, composers, film directors... I would never say change is bad - we'd never have gotten Trane's mature works if he hadn't evolved from when he was with Dizzy and then with Miles and Monk. But also I think we should be allowed to argue about the merits or lack thereof, of change. It's not all good for everybody, necessarily!

http://www.amazon.fr/gp/offer-listing/B000...6109&sr=8-1 I have several items, including this one, in my caiman queue but caiman sucks as badly as Concord by now, they *NEVER* deliver! I guess they actually live from money that people don't claim back...
