  1. No idea, but they did re-unite last year (from the site I linked on the first page):
  2. Thanks for reminding me... I tell you, it will be hard to control yourself once you'll stand in front of that shelf, I spent an hour there on Saturday, had my Penguin guide with me and some notes I took over the years... Ordered some from JPC, all on sale: Depart - Reloaded (ACT) Joachim Kühn - the piano solo album (ACT) Brubeck - Ret Hot & Cool or whatever it's called (Sony/Legacy) and the NY Contemporary Five Storyville CD (wanted that one for a looooong time)
  3. thanks for the bump - missed this before!
  4. I did hope (and think) so, but still taking a step back I felt stupid about posting that (it's pretty irrelevant anyway...) Did you pass by the store already? You'll have to ask specifically, I assume (the one guy that was there still recognizes me although I usually drop by once a year only, but he always pulls out piles of stuff not displayed... or just say you heard about the Classics from someone... I plan to pass by later this afternoon. They mention the classics on their website and encourage to ask for items not displayed. Will report back... Just remember, the month only just started, you'll need some money for food and other things, too!
  5. I think this is the only one I've heard - very good: Hamiet Bluiett - Im/Possible to Keep (2CD)

    Albert Ayler

Thanks, makes more sense than 500 alltogether... great box, and one of the very things so far that I've actually pre-ordered (or at least I ordered it just when it was released, can't even remember).

  8. ah well, another reason to refuse getting older... I'll stay mentally 13, then, forever (young)!

    Albert Ayler

500 in total, or 500 remaining (how many in total then)? great box, in my opinion (only bad is the overlap with the Ayler release, but I've said that before...)
  10. getting old, huh? alles gute zum geburtstag!
  11. Ok, I see - that's how I do it - but then still I prefer having the actual product (and hoping the house won't burn down...) but longterm-wise, it's not so simple, really, is it? As far as I know, there are not good digital solutions for longterm archiving yet. That's the smartest approach I assume... No need to discuss this further here, it just popped into my thoughts upon reading this thread. These kinds of downloads just don't hold a lot of interest for me. Now if Sony/BMG and EMI and everyone would start offering their historical recordings (say, from the beginnings to the 40s or something) in *complete* fashion and good quality, that would be a whole different thing - the possibility to fill up gaps session by session, also stuff on smaller labels, that would be great, sort of like a huge library where you can borrow/buy anything you want, not just your latest new album crap. Now I promise I finish ranting for today
  12. I have this here, besides the albums with Rahsaan: http://cdbaby.com/cd/dickgriffin2 Fine one!
  13. I still prefer the actual product. Has anyone started thinking about the durability of digital files? (ok ok, CDs contain digital files, too, but they're on a physical carrier which should not disintegrate too fast). What are you doing with all those MP3s? Store them on various huge external drives? What if one goes bad, do you keep them twice (is that even allowed or would that be piracy already? Are you allowed to hook up such a drive on several computers or will the files auto-destruct when you do that...?) Seriously: what about the durability? I am well aware that CDs are most likely not for externity, but they're still around anw working after more than 20 years. Will that be the case with digital files? I know HDs are growing in size, and quite possibly we'll be able to store things online eventually, so we might not keep HDs ourselves (if we then trust to whomever stores whatever you want them store - I'd not trust too much...). What are you people doing about all this? My situation is such that I do have two external HDs filled with music and am about to buy two new ones to do an actual "music library", backed up on two drives containing all the same stuff. No way I could keep it all on my internal HD or even less on my ipod, and it keeps expanding... (mainly in my case by radio shows I download in mp2 format as well as by MP3s ripped from my own CDs).
  14. 1 of 10 is otherwise also known as 10%, so go figure... The Dexter is fine! Though several of us yurpeens will fondly remember the crazy months when the ZYX license ran out and zweitausendeins was selling it for much less dollari. Those were the days!
  15. Yes, that's the one I have! Fine one indeed! 't was on the beeb and hence it's out there
  16. Hm, I have one of those great 70s Wheeler albums that were reissued on - I think - Evan Parker's label, the one with Derek Bailey jamming with the band on one track, amazing stuff! That's one of the albums I think where Sulzmann makes a sideman appearance. I still need the expensive ECM... in fact I'd need more Wheeler anyway!
  17. A favourite of mine for many years. His 'On Loan With Gratitude' is one of the great lost discs of the 70s. The opening track used to be the theme tune of 'Jazz Today' at one stage. His surname is also impossible to spell - I have to check every time! Sulzmann....I want to insert a 't' or dock an 'n'. yeah, but then you're not from Workshop either... I've heard little Sulzmann, but I enjoyed that - is there any "classic" album of his that one should get? Or even better, a recent good one?

    Funny Rat

you see, that's why this thread is *really* called the "funny rat" - this is about dried rat dogs and peruvian guinea pigs... and some such...
  19. what the hell is this, an oldage home? I am 13, but then I was 7 when I was born almost (hey, but not quite yet!) 30 years ago...
  20. You could be right. Reelin' In The Years Productions LLC is the largest music footage library in the world, housing over 10,000 hours of performances from all genres of music covering the last 50 years. We exclusively represent the rights to all of the music footage contained within 30 television stations throughout Europe, Australia and Japan and are able to license that material to all forms of media. Thanks for posting that... that's what I remembered, only I wasn't aware of Australia and Japan being mentioned, too!
  21. Is this used store in Zurich? If so, would you mind to disclose the name and location of this store? Thanks. He he, should I? As I won't be able to buy all I want anyway, yes of course! It's Silverdisc (Limmatstrasse, Tramhaltestelle Dammweg, eins vor Escher-Wyss-Platz). Most of the discs are not displayed but the guy there let me check them myself in their backoffice. Cost is 14 CHF per disc - not that cheap, but good enough, considering they're new or almost new (one had some writing in the CD list inside the booklet, though... doesn't bother me too much, but if it bothers you you might want to check thoroughly. The earlier 6 Basie discs are by the way still available from Abeillemusique for 25 euro... just sent in an order there, myself, though I have all of that music already on various CDs and CDRs... now I miss said 1941 volume plus the Neatworks. Just in case: what I remember is: large chunks of Ellington, Calloway, Krupa, Fats Waller, Teddy Wilson (I think I'll rather go for the Heps there, if I ever get them all... I have the Billie Holiday box, so I have many of those sides already). It's pure overkill, but you're bound to find some great stuff there, I'm sure! And make sure you also check the displayed discs, some Classics are in there, they just stock up whenever some other discs are sold and the have more space in their display shelves. Thanks very much. I appreciate your unselfish attitude. you'll have to do burns of all the discs I won't be able to get now because you're wealthier than me... that was int eh fine-print in the previous post, didn't you see? The fine-print was too fine-printed, thus it did not appear on my computer screen. Just out of curiosity: Why do you assume that I am wealthier than you? well, I'm a student (though with an ok paying part-time job) and you're 15 years older... but then you have family... stupid thing to post anyway, sorry! -_-
  22. I've only had three of the first series from the library, don't own any, but doesn't it say somewhere in the booklets that the series IS specifically done to unearth treasures from the European broadcasting companies?
  23. Hm, but the Lugano set is out on TCB and is longer there (I don't have the disc, but I think it's an hour or so). No idea how the legal situation is... TCB has that one in their "Swiss Radio Days" series, which is one the best legally cleared series out ther of non-public domain radio recordings. I assume the series is so small as it's so difficult to release these recordings... Whatever it will contain, it will be great! That band with Lateef and Zawinul is my favourite Adderley band ever!
