It's great, c'mon! Manne is providing enough interest alone, in my opinion!

what's this, satire?

Latest arrivals: Johnny Dyani "Mbizo" (Steeplechase) Don Patterson "Dem New York Dues" (Fantasy) Latest orders: Shelly Manne "At the Manne-Hole, Vol. 1" (Fantasy) and a bunch of discs by french pianist Stephan Oliva (all from priceminister.com - what a cool site!)

Yes, I've seen all of these in local stores, too... beats me why the idiots carry them if the orginal CDs are still to be found (the Mulligan meets Getz for instance was part of a recent Universal sale they had at the same store that now carries the Spanish/Andorran/wherever version - and they likely ask twice as much for the stolen version than they wanted for the Universal version in said sale.)

This one by the Andorran thieves (Lonehill in this case) makes a nice addition to both the Shank/Perkins and Perkins' first album "On Stage": It combines a pair of sessions by Perkins with Richie Kamuca and adds as a bonus the Perkins/Pepper parts from the same session that was included towards the end of the Shank/Perkins set. One track is duplicated (the one with Perkins the lone sax), and one of the Pepper tracks is missing for time restrictions. The whole Perkins/Pepper session it seems was on this earlier BN/Pac CD: http://www.amazon.com/Artistry-Pepper-Art/...5714&sr=1-1 That CD also contained a nonet session w/Pepper: Here's the info for the Perkins session that was partly w/Shank, partly w/Pepper, plus one track Perkins + rhythm only (plus a trio track as well, I thinky):

I watched bits of most games so far, mostly I found it about as boring as I usually find football to be. (Though when I happened by chance to catch the pentalty shooting that ended the Champions League final, now that was full of suspense and drama, for sure!) Anyway, I found the Dutch did a great job against the Italians - very enjoyable game to watch, the one I watched until the end. Worst would have been France-Romania and Greece-Sweden - I couln't take more than five minutes of those two. I'll likely watch the Swiss against Turkey game tonight (Türkiye! Türkiye! well, not really... but my involvment other than being pissed about all the aggressive, puking, drinking fans all over Zurich's centre, is pretty modest)

any news? how do you get news from then aynway? I sent them a mail, never heard back, never got any mailings or stuff...

I stopped using iTunes - I do all the managing stuff with WinAmp (which allows to move files back to your HD, too, in cases where you may have lost something or had to clear space or whatever). Though iTunes is still in use, since radio files (MP2) have to be converted, and iTunes does that (no idea though if it retains the original bitrate or just boils things down to 32 or whatever is their crappy standard). And I have a 30GB model... seems like that's a thing of yesterday already but to me it still feels like I only just got it... all that modern stuff... I prefer playing music on speakers, even if I have to do that at comparatively low volume. The iPod is mostly in use when commuting or while at work if those creeps there don't shut up for a minute or stress my nerves otherwise.

Ah well, little Switzerland... stuff like that is totally out of reach for me, unless I'm just not aware of what options there would be to get these for acceptable prizes!
-
Would be a cool Select, no? Maybe they could even unearth some more rarities/outtakes and stuff!

I thought "original" RTF was the amazing ECM album's line-up (Farrell, Clarke, Airto, plus Flora Purim) - still a fresh and lovely album, in my opinion. Never cared for later RTF, though I'm growing to like WR quite a bit (early WR, that is - just about the albums mentioned above are what I own so far).

sorry, didn't read the whole thread, didn't notice it was planned for release - no surprise though, should indeed be fun!
-
(some of) the Schaffhausen gig should eventually be broadcast on Swiss radio, just in case (it might also have been taped by/for Intakt)

Just picked up the Spanish 2CD set with The Route and Playboys included - thanks a lot again for your help, Swinging Swede! What I still need now is the recent Pacific/EMI reissue of "Sextet", then I'll have it covered, though some with older CDs, but I don't care much about that (meaning: I'll keep "Young Chet" and the old "& Crew", the old "Big Band" CD, as well as "Grey December" and "Best of Chet Baker Sings" instead of "Baker Sings" and "Quartet & Strings" or what that recent EMI reissue was called again). As for "& Crew", I assume for folks who don't have an EMI CD and "Young Chet", this one would be the way to go now: http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/record.php?record_id=4847

half the folks here have jazz radio shows

great show. i've lost track of the times. can you give a clue< please? Read all about it here: http://www.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/em...ion.php?e_id=19 I wouldn't know what time that is in your time zone... do you listen via internet? "Le jazz, probablement...", "A l'improviste" and "Jazz sur le vif" are other shows including live recordings (in the case of "Le jazz..." it's usually some tracks off new discs and then bits of a concert). The whole list of shows is here: http://www.radiofrance.fr/francemusique/em/liste/ -

I like the Bob Dorough theme used on the French Station France Musique's show "Jazz Club" - which is also a great show: two hours of live jazz, broadcast from clubs in Paris (sometimes also from someplace else in France). -
These arrived yesterday! Still waiting for that newbury package including some of those cheapo multi-disc sets - taking looooooooong! Also bought the new George Duke MPS Fusion Sessions 4CD set last night, on the way home from work.
-
sounds interesting... but pretty unlikely I'll find something like this here, alas.
-
bought the Duke box for the price of one fully priced CD yesterday... will report later, looking forward to some fun stuff, though not expecting too much.
-
What's this, the film soundtrack (parts of) or a later album using themes from the score?

I have "Keeper of the Flame" - very nice one, also on Nagel-Heyer. R.i.p. Here's the Telegraph's obituary:

Happy Birthday!

God, this is chaotic! Thank you so much, Swinging Swede! And thanks for answering my questions even though I mixed up & Crew and The Route! I guess thus best for me would be to get that 2CD Baker/Pepper set, as I have no versions of The Route and Playboys yet. As for & Crew I assume I'll stick to my old Pacific CDs.
