Oh, and it's of course - who else!!! - Cole Porter's! His lyrics are THE very best! Gershwin's "Delishious" (a song I've never heard anyone do, not even Ella) has a very nice verse as well!

Yeah, for preservation reasons, that's definitely the smarter choice. Whenever I get them cheap, I buy 'em as well, but living in a country where almost everything is overprized, that's pretty seldom the case - funny enough though the one thing I most recently found for a very good prize (7-8$) was that Brownie 3CD set on Lonehill... marvellous music!

As we're asking dumbest questions: what's the combination that turns off the keyboard and makes the ALT + TAB switching between windows go the wrong way 'round? No idea how I sometimes manage to pull this trick, but usually just a restart helps me fix it again

You will also need the Yellow Submarine album, which only has 4 additional Beatles tunes, but more importantly, that wonderful George Martin underscore. There was a mono LP for this in the UK but it was a fold down, which did not make sense since mono mixes were made for the film. Go figure. Ok, thanks! I think I'll slowly get it!

Yes, I agree! But between the two alternatives, I think sharing among fans is the one I'll prefer. On the other hand, there's - alas! - no guarantee that fans will actually buy these once they'll be officially released. I try to do so whenever I actually find out about such official releases! But alas, we don't live in an ideal world...

I think it was Larry who once wrote something interesting about RCA's production values and how they sort of toned down lots of things, using the same format and same session players all of the time etc?

Well, the RLR release by George Russell was taken one-to-one from a share of mine on said BT site... they ripped it off, including the info, but they missed the corrections posted in the comments... and more importantly, they will not upgrade I guess, now that the version in circulation has better sound, additional music AND finally corrected information as well! Their loss... and yes, they do rip off from there. There was a lot of Brownie around, most of it in very bad quality, alas... the releases by Lonehill, RLR and others are a mess (the Dolphy session, anyone?) Has anybody figured out all the details for these Brownie live shows? Is there a discography that includes correct info for all these "in circulation" and bootlegged recordings? I'd love to see this sorted out!

I'm using the US Air Mail option always. Never had a battered box... the worst was maybe a slightly nudged (is that a correct word?) outer box, but just on one corner. Didn't bother to have that replaced. The only thing I had replaced was a Django box I crushed by accident (they offered one for free!) and the booklet of the Capitol set which had a cut corner on one page (no text missing, but still).

So in short: with the mono box on its way, to complete the Beatles collection, I'd need the stereo single disc reissues of "Abbey Road", "Let It Be" and "Past Masters"? Is that correct? Still trying to figure things out... the box should be on the way by now, but I bet customs will hold it up, I don't count on having it before two weeks from now, but I'm no hurry whatsoever... will play all The Byrds albums I just got until then, and the Velvet Underground box set and the cheapo "Original Albums" by Patti Smith (and some of ye olde jazz in between, too).

That cover looks like a very badly designed Italian bootleg from around 1990 or so... yuck! Asmussen isn't someone I know very well, but he's great on this OOP disc with Lionel Hampton (from the short-lived Sonet CD series):

I have all but the Draper and Waldron (and as stated above only just got the Garland's). The Ammons discs you'll have to keep anyway (same with "Cattin'" and "The Cats" for the second box - not including the trio tracks is a bit of a goof in my humble opinion) as they contain quite some music without Coltrane. Anyway, I'm a big fan of all these Fantasy boxes. The two Coltranes are great, so is the Miles Quintet, so are the small cube boxes they did in their final years (Monk Prestige, Sonny Stitt, MJQ, the Bill Evans Vanguard one I just got...)

I just ordered the mono box (pre-order 180€ thanks to tax deduction, from amazon.de... it says Japan edition, while the "regular" is 450€or some such, but that ASIN-no. is the same as on the mono box listed on amazon.fr, where the pre-order prize for the mono box is 20-30€ higher...) Hope I'm not buying something wrong... and I'm still not sure I'll not change my mind, this is a lot of money for the band that what, freaked up music forever? this one here (via org link)

Thanks for the link but the blurb doesn't give all that much info, ie like they did here for "Interplay", what are the specific albums contained other than the Garland and the Dameron, for people like me too lazy to look them up. :tophat: "Mal-2" by Mal Waldron "Informal Jazz" by Elmo Hope (in yurp part of the not-quite-twofer "All Star Sessions") the Ammons titles I mentioned above and one by Ray Draper, which I forgot (two tracks of that one were previously available as bonus tracks on another "The Believer", which is on the "Fearless Leader")

This is great news!!! I love the first two boxes, never got the 16CD set either... too bad I just recently bought the four Garland discs (at least one of them has a trio cut or two, Dig It, I think, that one is hence good to have - or are those duplicate cuts available on other Garland trio discs on Prestige?) As for what will be in the box, I guess it starts out with the 1956 "Mating Call" album with Tadd Dameron, then it should include the Nov and Dec 1957 dates w/Garland, the session with Elmo Hope, the parts with Coltrane originally on Gene Ammons' "The Big Sound" and "Groove Blues", the album with Mal Waldron (Mal-2 it was, I think?). That should about fill five discs, the Garland material probably taking up almost half of it.

how about Dave Amram? from AMG, among others: Kenny Dorham, Lionel Hampton, Oscar Pettiford, Curtis Fuller, Allen Ginsberg, David Bromberg, Hannibal Marvin Petrson, Mary Lou Williams, Betty Carter, T.S. Monk, Pete Seeger, Jack Kerouac, Lawrence Ferlinghetti... I'm sure AMG isn't nearly complete there... Bobby Jaspar is an artist I have Amran on disc with, in a sort of third stream-ish ensemble. He also performed with Mingus, George Barrow, the New York Philharmonic, various Latin bands... Not sure he quite fits the bill, but Niko's mention of Draper sort of led me to Amram. The only guy I immediately thought of when reading the thread title has been mentioned by Chuck above, Garvin Bushell.
