So jazzdiscography.com is in error about "Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah" - it's indeed on the Jazz Life CD! And so there are two takes of "T'aint Nobody's Business if I Do" - I assume the one on "Candid Roach" (you don't list that release above!) is the other one than on Straight Ahead?
-
gee, and there I get knocked on my head for complainin' about the silly bitches brew deluxe reissue...
-
Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
king ubu replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
In case: grooves-inc seems to still have them (while amazon.de and .fr list them as out of stock), I just got a shipping confirmation for another of the Threadgill sets (a gift for a friend). -
congrats! considered sending you a mail... you'll like the Dameron date and of course "Consequence" is from Jackie's purple patch!
-
So just the one track (Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah) is new, and the rest isn't from any newly discovered reels w/outtakes (see note to the first session above), you guess?
-
Can't recall this particular session, but I enjoyed the Quincy Jones Mosaic a lot, played it when it was out anew, time to revisit, I guess... weird that it omitted these two tracks, will send them a mail to inquire! I think me, I'll buy the Blakey and the Jazz Boom from this new series. Don't think I'll grab the Sassy and Q for the additional titles. Having the original covers would be very cool in some cases (the Urtreger, the Byrds), but I'm not quite THAT silly usually, to buy duplicates just for the cover art... not yet, I guess...
-
A friend of mine bought this CD - haven't heard it, even less been able to compare the takes. I put in bold the tracks included. The timings differ by a few seconds here and there, but that may well just be because the disco or the CD listing includes some silence etc... The most interesting thing seems to be #2, "Oh Yeah, Oh Yeah", which seems to be previously unreleased! Other than that, my guess is it's just yet another slightly silly repacking. A bit silly that they couldn't add that one track to the "Newport Rebels" CD!
-
Yeah it says it for a few that have been in print and/or still are in print in the US (e.g. Conference of the Birds). So I think it is just a re-pressing, unless these are on the way back in some other format (budget or deluxe) - we'll see. Weird - it's listed as in print both on amazon.com and amazon.de

up - anyone? I think I paid $15 for a 1st stereo Liberty, but that was a few years ago. Not a bad date. I'd say no. Thanks for chiming in - seems too steep for me as well, but as I'm no expert in these things, I wanted to check.
-
anyone knows why it says "CD reissue in preparation" for Julian Priester's "Love, Love"? I go that CD reissue a couple of years ago...
-
Yes, I thought it must be the two from the Distel 2CD set but didn't have it at hand... looks like a very nice disc!

Just tried to sort out the new reissues - the ones with ADDITIONAL MUSIC are in bold face: Art Blakey - Paris Jam Session (#40) Bernard Peiffer - Piano Et Rythmes (#93 - Plays Standards) Bill Coleman - From Boogie to Funk (#7) Bobby Jaspar - Modern Jazz au Club Saint Germain (#27) Chet Baker - And His Quintet with Bobby Jaspar (1) Django Reinhardt - The Great Artistry of Django Reinhardt (#91 - Nuages) (2) Donald Byrd - Byrd In Paris (#4) Donald Byrd - Parisian Thoroughfare (#5) (3) Elek Bacsik - Guitar Conceptions (#15) Guy Lafitte - Blue and Sentimental (#24) Jazz At The Philharmonic - Les Tricheurs (#50 - Jazz et cinéma vol. 2) (4) Jean-Luc Ponty - Jazz Long Playing (#43) Lionel Hampton - And His French New Sound Vol. 1 (#45 - Vol. 2) Lionel Hampton - And His French New Sound Vol. 2 (#44 - Vol. 1) Lucky Thompson - Modern Jazz Group (#28) Maurice Meunier - And His Orchestra (#54 - Clarinettes à Saint-Germain-des-Prés) (5) Max Roach - Parisian Sketches (#96 - also part of the Max Roach Mosaic) Michel Legrand - Paris Jazz Piano (#32) Multi Interprètes - Jazz Boom N°1 (6) Pierre Michelot - Round About a Bass (#29) Quincy Jones - I Dig Dancers (7) René Thomas - And His Orchestra (#16) (8) René Urtreger - Joue Bud Powell (#67) Ronnell Bright - The Ronnell Bright Trio (#61 - Piano aux Champs Elysées) (9) Sarah Vaughan - Sarah Vaughan à Paris (#83 - Vaughan & Violins) (10) Slide Hampton - Exodus (#10) Sonny Criss - Mr Blues Pour Flirter (#23) (11) Stéphane Grappelli - Django (#87) Toots Thielemans - Blues Pour Flirter (#17) Willie Smith - Willie The Lion Smith (#64 - Music On My Mind) NOTES 1) this one contains selections from various Barclay sessions (Jaspar is only on #1-3) 2) this one contains the first 8 (of 12) tracks from #91 "Nuages" (that CD added two 78s to the 10 inch album reissued on the new disc) 3) missing another take of "Salt Peanuts" that was on #5 4) #50 also contained Art Blakeys soundtrack for "Les femmes disparaissent", not included on this new disc. Instead this new disc contains: These seem to complete the session and have not been too widely spread I assume? 5) #54 also contains an album by Hubert Rostaing 6) this one's all new! EDIT: well, mostly... two cuts have been on the great Sacha Distel "hors série" 2CD package - see niko's post below. Concert, "Théâtre de l'Apollo", Paris, May 26, 1954 #3 - Bernard Hulin (tp) Benny Vasseur (tb) Guy Lafitte (ts) Raymond Fol (p) Guy de Fatto (b) Pierre Lemarchand (d) #5 - Christian Bellest (tp) Hubert Fol (as) Jay Cameron (bar) René Urtreger (p) Benoit Quersin (b) Jean-Louis Viale (d) Can't seem to find more... so here's the dusty blurb: 7) #1-13 correspond to sessions I & J from Mosaic set, #14-15 are from session I and are omitted (wihout any explanation, as far as I can see) on the Mosaic set! 8) there's a printing mistake in the JiP 1-102 catalogue: it mentions that #16 contains two albums but only gives track listing for the first one (#1-8) 9) the "Piano aux Champs Elysées" compilation (#61) compiled a 10 inch album by Art Simmons with the Bright album reissued anew now. 10) the new CD contains 4 additional alternate takes not part of #83 11) this one also contains most of the Criss portions of #55 "Saxophones à Saint-Germain-des-Prés", it seems? ---------------------- I HATE THIS TWO IN ONE POST FEATURE !!!! NEW POST STARTING HERE: Now if anyone else ever DID compare the tracklistings of the four 3CD sets with the single discs and did determine what's from where and what's unissued elsewhere, please post it here!

Happy Birthday, Jim!

Well, I guess mentally most of them have moved to Vermont way back
-
For anyone who has the 2CD set - there's one take of "Oasis", an outtake not used on the album, that opens the second disc. Who might be the featured trumpet player there? Just playing the second disc now, with all the alternate takes - pretty intriguing!
-
If they're going to sell that 4CD/DVD box for 90$ over here, I might get it, but the price for the KoB Anniversary box was around 200$ and I'm afraid it will be more like that again with the new one...
-
up - anyone?
-
No good way... but you can display the whole catalogue and use CTRL + F to search.
-
Wow, a Russell - now that's is great! Browsing around some more: Lester Bowie - that's weird, a 2CD set with two albums by The Leaders only? http://www.camoriginalsoundtracks.com/site/index.php?site=&path=artist&idartist=6836 Nothing else with a "box set" note added.
-
nothing on Braxton and Douglas yet, but if you check the Taylor listing on the CAM Jazz site, you can see the note that the albums are also part of the 5CD box (the link is yet a dead end though): http://www.camoriginalsoundtracks.com/site/index.php?site=&path=artist&idartist=6726

Have you actually seen any of these? I got acceptable offers for both the Peterson (Duos) and Ella (in Hollywood) sets, and seing them I kind of understood why they're priced in such a big league. They're nicely presented, in a 45 single format with booklet and all. I guess that manner of presentation has it's price!
-
Probably has some connection to the Weber/Winckelmann split up. Each of them got one volume for his label. Don't have the discs with me, though. As far as I know, the LP cover of Vol. 2 (Enja 3077) had a small "Volume 2" printed below the album's title. On CD we've got "Mingus in Europe Vol. 1" and "Mingus in Europe", which should allow folks to notice the difference, after all...
-
Great news, Chuck!
-
Don't have it at hand to check, but did you look at the back of the booklet (producer's note or something like that?) - usually they're quite accurate to note such mistakes, same as on other Blue Note discs, where there are notes about "phasing cymbals" etc...
