  1. It's quite good, really! And the second disc is fun as you hear them straightening out stuff... sort of like a window into their work shop there.

  3. Ah, now I can see... thanks! Sorry for being so slow
  4. I'm very disappointed that the regular Legacy Edition won't include the Tanglewood set. To get that I'd have to buy the Anniversary Edition with the LPs that I don't even need. That says: a) the regular Legacy Edition (which I assume is 2CD + DVD, which I liked above) doesn't have Tanglewood b) to get Tanglewood, you have to get the Anniversary Edition (whatever that is, but not the 2LP + 2CD + DVD edition which doesn't have Tanglewood) confusing? I bet... maybe ShowsOn could help us out?
  5. Ah, I see - so ShowsOn is wrong above? Or is there yet another version with more than 2LPs, 2CDs and 1DVD?
  6. Happy birthday!
  7. Sorry if I'm slow, but there's just the Copenhagen DVD which seems to be part of the Legacy Edition. What's Tanglewood? Duke at Tanglewood? Why should that be part of a genius box? http://www.amazon.com/Bitches-Brew-Legacy-2CDs-1DVD/dp/B003M0H4NG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1275405925&sr=1-3
  8. This one had quite a few covers!
  9. Very cool, thanks for digging that up niko! Motian is mighty good news - I only have "Misterioso" and that one's terrific!
  10. There was some discussion about the Centennial box-sets (three editions... the Fremeaux will be three boxes in itself in the end, the third isn't out yet, I think) here: If you do a search you should also find various threads on JSP sets, the Mosaic, the Jazz in Paris discs (seven, also collected in a box set). Depending on how complete you want your collection to be... I have the Jazz in Paris discs, the Mosaic, and some more stray stuff, but I guess I'll get the Fremeaux boxes, eventually! Oh, and lest I forget: welcome to the forum!
  11. They forget to mention the free glue in the description Won't be buying this, I guess... no need for that much commercial Herbie - though I guess Jim's quite right: Hancock has so much talent, he seems to be able to do something worthwhile in nearly any imaginable setting.
  12. I have the US edition of this album with different cover art. I like this record! Yes, it's very enjoyable!

    Charles Mingus

Get back has a whole series of what I guess are dime-sourced CDs out. I won't complain about that (though I do think if they are making money from these recordings, they ought to pay some royalties... Anyway, while this Stuttgart set looks complete (I don't have my files with me to confirm though), be advised that they have some very incomplete releases out (such as a 1CD set of Coltrane's Graz concert, of which Charly did a complete 2CD set).

    Charles Mingus

There's a single third LP on Ulysse complementing the 2LP set: "Concertgebouw", Amsterdam, Holland, April 10, 1964 Parkeriana (Dedicated To A Genius) Ulysse Musique (F) AROC 50506/07 So Long Eric - Orange Was The Color Of Her Dress, Then Blue Silk - Meditations (Meditation On A Pair Of Wire Cutters) - Fables Of Faubus, Pt. 1 Ulysse Musique (F) AROC 50608 Fables Of Faubus, Pt. 2 - A.T.F.W.U.S.A. (A.T.F.W.Y.O.U.) - Sophisticated Lady - * Charles Mingus - Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Vol. 1 (Ulysse Musique (F) AROC 50506/07) * Charles Mingus - Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Vol. 2 (Ulysse Musique (F) AROC 50608) I think that IS complete, no?
  15. Great news, Volkher! And never mind taking a while to reply to mails... just don't forget to include your postal address once you'll write, so that little Jazz in Paris thingie (courtesy of brownie, btw... but as I've got a duplicate now, I thought it would be in his spirit to pass it on to you!) can be sent, after all!
  16. Went for the 5 hours/day option and mostly multi-tasking... I guess I squeeze in about 5-6 hours a week of late night listening with headphones and some beverages, but I may as well read some newspapers or magazines then... Also, there are days when I work at home, so probably 8-10 hours of music on those, or even more, and there are days spent at the office where I listen to just 1-2 hours in the evening. Finally, Bev's mention of reading/writing and listening at the same time rings a bell... what happens to me sometimes then is: darn, now I missed X's solo again... I get up, hit the "back" button of the player... only to listen closely again AFTER X's solo is over, of course... after the third attempt I give up, usually, and promise myself to play that disc again paying some real attention next time...
  17. What does the band play on the Antibes recording, and how's the sound quality? Sorry for the late reply - I think the titles remain unidentified, it's just a short one, two tracks. Here's the etree db entry.
  18. Shirley MacLain Jackie McLean Diane Lane

  22. up - anyone? I think I paid $15 for a 1st stereo Liberty, but that was a few years ago. Not a bad date. I'd say no. Thanks for chiming in - seems too steep for me as well, but as I'm no expert in these things, I wanted to check. Would that be the Pathe Marconi French DMM pressing? I have one of those - bought it when it came out for about £3, it's OK. The Liberty original is better (and like an idiot I gave away my copy.) Alternatively, the Blue Label 70s pressing is an OK option, better than the DMM. I didn't even look closely enough to remember - but quite likely Pathe Marconi (the Blue Note Town Hall vinyl set I bought is that pressing, same store, same collection, I guess).
