  1. On the other hand, she's not been doing much to spread Mingus' own music in the past years... a release in 1997, the Cornell set, the UCLA... , still not easy to find the Monterey 1965, still no sign of "My Favorite Quintet" or any more official 1964 sets. I guess she wasn't involved in the two 2CD sets released/reissued by Universal France (the 1970 band with Bobby Jones and the 1964 Great Paris Concert). Of course what she does with the Mingus Big Band is great, but I'd really wish she'd have made use of the CD boom from the mid 90s to the mid 00s and put out some Mingus releases. Nowadays, I guess it's too late anyway...
  2. Great, thanks brownie! I guess I can live without that UK date... and of course I'll hold on to the cheapo box as it covers a far larger time period. Not sure what to do with all the Chronological Classics though... I have about a dozen from the 30s, I think.
  3. A cleaned up official release of this material would be terrific!
  4. Can I have the two Duke Pearsons, please?
  5. I got that 40CD set too, just as a gap-filler... but can anyone tell me, is all that Ellington recorded in these years to be found on the Mosaic set? I never went and checked session by session so far and I bet someone here knows anyway, saving me the work! Oh, and I'll definitely grab the Ellington set! Not right now though, but hopefully sometime next year!
  6. That's a beautiful saying - never heard it before!
  7. Wow, I had no idea she was even still around (wouldn't have occurred to me to check though). Sure would be a treat to read an interview with her!
  8. Happy Birthday, Daniel! Reminds me: I ought to play that fine disc of yours again! And some Duke Pearson, too!
  9. THE Myra Taylor? The same of which I've got some Mercury 40s sides on some box set?
  10. OK, thanks, that does shed some light! Still waiting for the Dylan.
  11. Played the whole Cecil Taylor box today... the duet with Roach is great, the solo, too... the larger ensemble stuff will need some more listening to be absorbed.
  12. from the Sonny Stitt Mosaic booklet's notes on the final Roost album, "Sax Expressions": Now, can anyone explain what these deals with publishing companies meant, how this worked? Who got the money? The publishing company? And then passed on part/all (?) of it to the composer?

    Very sad news!
  14. maybe he was trying to sound like Hank Mobley and that's what happens when you do so...
  15. Thanks a lot for chiming in Laurie! Great to hear a CD release is planned. Can't help with the live material from the other nights, alas.
  16. Guess I'd be *very* happy with this, but then the price... also a CD version would be preferred.
  17. Why not record and release something new on Nessa? I'm sure Chuck would be very happy to do just that if you sent him a few thousand $$$...
  18. Dig the last chorus of his solo! A whole new tune, composed right there as he plays it! Dexter's the man!
  19. very sad news!
  20. yes, and it's even inflatable
  21. Thanks for the laughs, everyone!
  22. In the past for LPs I've always ordered direct 'from the horse's mouth' in Italy via the Rearward/Schema website and stuff has arrived fine. Must pick up this 'Encore' - at first I thought it was just a reissue of the Blue Note 'Golden Eight' but I see it is new material. So you're one of the few that would not be exited about a reissue of the original "Golden Eight"?
  23. Thanks Michael, will grab the files, too!
  24. grooves-inc.com has them for pretty good prices (compared to what these Rearward's usually go for) - happy to replace my crappy "review copies" of these - just ordered all three of them!
  25. Not that it matters too much to me, but this thread might as well be merged into this earlier one:
