  1. lupe and anyone else: this is a great opportunity to get a fine overview of South African music: Next Stop... Soweto - Volumes 1-3 Limited Edition Box Set Vol. 3 is the actual jazz volume and the only one that's two discs worth of GREAT music! The rest will appeal to anyone with open ears and a liking for African music, as well! Lots of it goes into similar directions than the jazzy grooves that are so enjoyable in South African music! The price is more than right! I picked it up locally for about the same price today, but had Vol. 3 separately before (paid the same as for the whole set today... will pass it on to my parents who ignited my love for South African music in the first place). Edited to add: Vol. 3 is the same that MwtGA recommends in post #6!
  2. Thanks a lot for all these stunning photos, Bev! Here, it's been back to 4-5 °C and the snow is melting and it's just plain ugly... yesterday it was raining into the snow all day long. I hate that.
  3. got this one (locally, same price roughly) today: Next Stop Soweto - Vols. 1-3 Limited Edition It's a filmsy cardboard around three jewel cases (Vol. 3 is a 2CD set, it's four discs in total). Paid about the same for Vol. 3 (though that one's a nice digipack version I could give away now...)
  4. Well, everything changed there a while back... I thought they were bought by someone else or something... dimly remember reading about that somewhere. Never quite looked the same after, and I think plenty of stuff has just vanished in the process.
  5. Sounds interesting indeed! What happened to CDbaby anyways... first they crap large parts of their distributed goodies, then the website craps, too (2 hits for "Joe Cinderella", Album (1), Artist (1), though nothing but dead links...)
  6. Happy Birthday, Dave! Just happened to pick up "Last Set at Newport" today...
  7. Yeah... I guess a Select would be really cool, but else it might end up too expensive and not gauge enough interest, since many of the potential buyers may have amassed enough boots to live on. But I'd really welcome this, nevertheless, even if it's a slighty larger four or five disc set. I don't see it being much larger than that though... Rivers isn't always the strongest in keeping focused, so keeping it concentrated to three discs of really fine music would probably be my best suggestion.
  8. Shouldn't that album have been called "A Mann and a Jones"?
  9. As I said: the new one doesn't contain all that was in the old set... the Miles, KD and other sideman dates are missing!
  10. The Sonny Rollins Prestige Albums 8CD set can be had for 18€ at amazon.de - it contains the Rollins albums, as opposed to the complete 7CD set which also had the sessions with Monk and KD and some... the eight albums included are: - SR & MJQ - Movin' Out - Worktime - SR Plus Four - Tenor Madness - Saxophone Colossus - Rollins Plays for Bird - Tour de Force The booklet is bare bones - front covers plus info, no liners, no nothing. But quite a steal for those who don't have all of these fine albums yet!
  11. art weather? ah, no I wanted *this* Sisley, really:
  12. Jingle Bells Tinker Bell Alexander Graham Bell
  13. Not yet familiar with his films, just with his name... what a sad way to go... but then somehow at 95 maybe also a beautiful way to go, no? r.i.p.
  14. Nah, these True Blue box set deals aren't a big deal... sorry to say. They might generate some more business by dropping prices on a few select items, rather than just offer these mini-discounts. But I'm not complaining, I'm just buying box sets elsewhere. The new Jimi Hendrix box "West Coast Seattle Boy" can be found pretty cheaply, for instance here: http://www.amazon.de/West-Coast-Seattle-Boy-Anthology/dp/B0044DE8FW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291224648&sr=8-1 But then I guess for Americans it's not exactly a bargain... it was for me, totalling at 33.60€. Just got it today, looking forward to hearing more Jimi in the weeks to come!
  15. Here's Eric Dolphy playing some Holiday music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYJ_4vSruog
  16. Chuck, excellent service as usual, already got the discs today and am spinning some of the music as I type this! Thanks a lot!
  17. Wow, wow, wow! All expectations met up with... truly one of the most amazing sax players of recent years! A short set, but it's been a while that I heard that much saxophone! Binder was mighty fine, too - never even heard of her name before, though she's a local (website) In one sentence: Kihlstedt is pretty nice to look at... Not as great as I'd hoped, but fine and powerful, whimsical and funny... but something was lacking. Even more so after Butcher/Binder's amazing opener!
  18. Blue Suede Shoes Snake Skin Jacket Pork Pie Hat (or if you prefer: Bird Nicholas Cage Pres)
  19. Couldn't you at least have tried to come up with an onze-tet?
  20. Les Double Six de Paris Count Basie's Kansas City Septem Dave Pell Octet
  21. ¡Congrats, Erik! ¡mucha suerte! But Aggie is a man person, requiring a man adjective, therefore bon(e)! Viva la differential! I won't pull a boner joke now... oops
  22. Thanks Chuck! Looking forward to finally owning a real copy of that Brözziman box!

  24. When I bought mine is was listed as the last one. I guess they have to re-stock. I didn't even pay attention when I ordered... but as it's new, I guess with a little patience, I'll be fine. And of course there's no need for rush anyway!
