Yeah, it's totally stupid. For $10 less you can get Uranium Ore. http://www.amazon.co...95879041&sr=8-2 and they've got a nice cross-sell for Threadgill fans. I'd rather recommend this one:
-
June Christy - The Intimate Miss Christy Chris Connor (Atlantic self-titled) and yes on: Peggy Lee - Black Coffee!
-
had a gift card that was just right to get this one for free, yowzah! also picked from the post-x-mas sales: Enrico Rava - The Pilgrim and the Stars Dave Brubeck - Three Classics Albums Plus / Third Set William Parker Quartet - Petit Oiseau and some used vinyl: Antonio Carlos Jobim - Terra Brasilis Weather Report - 8:30 Schildpatt Gary McFarland - Point of Departure Lambert Hendricks & Bavan - Havin' a Ball at the Village Gate
-
I'll do the next one, ok?

The Wonderful World of Antonio Carlos Jobim

Ha, read this thread last night and today stumbled over the double LP "Terra Brasilis" in very good condition (that's what it looks to me, I'm not talking the vinylratingolingo) for a good price - thanks to everyone, I'm sure I'll love it, will warm up that lazy turntable now... -

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

Still deeply into Hill... have played several times the "Judgment" and "Point of Departure" sessions today, now going through the "Andrew" and "Pax" (or whatever again they called the first of the dates with Hubbard). Gilmore is deeply fascinating, darker than Henderson ever got and hence a more fitting companion for Hill, methinks... though Henderson on "Point..." is fascinating, too... lots of Trane in his playing there, as I hear it. And KD is a perfect match with his slightly bitter lyricism - complementing Dolphy's outward antics and Henderson's more restrained lyricism. -
Hope to hear it from that site we shan't mention here... what a great gig to have been on!

Thanks a lot! -
Yes, I enjoy it a lot! It's limited and tentative indeed, but it's very moving music.

There's a disc I want to buy on amazon.com that only offers domestic shipping... is there anyone willing to help? I guess easiest would be that person would order it for me and then send it across the pond... and I'd pay back via paypal (from credit card). Please drop me a PM if you're willing to help me out and discuss the details!

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
king ubu replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I'll be ordering it around 2015 After the Braxton, Threeadgill, MJQ, Herman, Rich etc etc etc Yeah, same here... except I have the Braxton already. Guess the Ellington will be one to get rather soon though, as I just want to hear all of that music! You won't regret the Ellington set lot's to explore in that set, I am on the fence about Braxton. Is it plain enjoyable, or more academic? I don't have very much of this type of music. Opinions? Try a search, there must be some discussion about it. I've not yet played much of it, but enjoyed the earliest stuff (and have some other Braxton from later periods, too). Now playing: -
Wow! Just about to finish my first spin of "The Complete Yusef Lateef", a 1968 Atlantic album (reissued on CD by Collectables). Recorded in 1967 with Hugh Lawson, Cecil McBee and Roy Brooks and 'teef doing some overdubbing on a few tracks, this one's a really smoking disc! I still have some reservations about the piecemeal albums (Blue, Detroit, Diverse, even more so Part of the Search), but I'm very happy about having "The Complete" now! The Atlantic period may be a sketchy one, but this one's definitely worth hearing!

Never warmed to that one... a high school friend had it on CD (must have been around 1992/93 or so). The cold production sound turned me off big time... only later on I learned that Don Grolnick also did some "good" stuff (the Blue Note double disc set!)... guess I don't get a chance to re-evaluate, as these Grammavision discs have indeed turned pretty rare, it seems (Sco did a whole run for them).

- bump - will be sending out a pair of discs tomorrow... any more takers from ol' yurp who want a CDR?

yowzah! I recently scored a copy of that Goodman set! now playing: discs 1-3 (Sessions A-C) of the Andrew Hill big sucker... it's been a while - and the music is still all as glorious as ever! -
Buddy Rich and Johnny Smith sets running low
king ubu replied to golfcrazy1984's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
No, I don't think zweitausendeins (or caiman) ever had a *great* deal on this one... but I heard there were some Euro sets sold when it was out anew. Anyway, other than the "Buddy & Sweets" album, I think it's all totally new to me, so I'm getting loads of new music for the $$$ - will likely send in my order in a few days (as soon as that paycheck arrives). -

Gee, I want that Rich! Missed out on any euro-offers on this one... it's huge and costly, ouch... -
Miles once did a Davidoff commercial... "Kind of ... Cool Water". (And Mingus did one for fish fingus.) There's also Lennie Tristano's "Descent into the Bathtub", a classic of that genre.
-
Annoying strategy indeed - I already bought that other Trane 4CD set to get the whole Village Gate 1965 set... But great news of course... though the turning up of the 1961 Newport set is even greater (will surely soon be bootlegged, but possibly in a wrong-speed version... because them bootleggers don't bother to check back in...)
-
Yeah, that happened to me with a Big John Patton one... and more recently with a Bobby Byrd disc. Both times I didn't realize what I was buying. I hate it that they're so deceitful to mark these as "Audio CDs" on top and you don't notice the CDR thing printed farther down the page if you don't check closely. The Patton had a nice copy of the artwok, but the Bobby Byrd had nothing but the outer covers (not sure if the regular CD has anything more, but I guess so). They should label these as "CDRs on demand" instead of as "Audio CDs", in my opinion.

Thanks Jeff! I definitely made a fool of myself with some guesses though... and mistaking tenor for alto twice is a bit embarrassing, too, as I have both of these at home (though currently I rarely ever play... and I just started to get my front teeth fixed today, so next change I get, hopefully, will be in the second half of this year, after all is done and finished).

Yeah, what did it smoke? Red Libanon?
