FWIW: I've once suggested an RCA set to Mosaic - got a favourable answer from MC, but of course you never know if it might happen or not...

LF: Joe McPhee - As Serious As Your Life
king ubu replied to colinmce's topic in Offering and Looking For...
same here... if anyone happens to stumble over a truckload, put one in the mail for me, please! -
The discs should be on their way shortly... DL links will be shared on Saturday or Sunday - all things are settled, and I'm looking forward a lot to reading your comments and impressions! Would be great to have some more folks join in!

Okay, thanks for the explanation! Don't know the band, obviously... will have to dig up my Wright discs again. -

That's too bad! From what little I've heard, I consider myself a Jack Wright fan! -

Will try and catch Malaby live in May! Sounds like I should kill if necessary in order to make it! -
Will try and have the link up for Jeff tonight - so Hot Ptah gets his disc in time. Also BillF's disc should be on its way tomorrow or Monday. It will be MP3-sourced, too - but quality should be okay. Didn't keep lossless versions of the tunes on the computer and in several cases have been working from my previous ipod-rips anyway. I think all files are M4A (some may be MP3, but I don't think) - they can be played with WinAmp or iTunes, and I guess many other players (foobar comes to mind). Hope this won't present any technical difficulties for anyone! Anyway, I guess here would be the place to ask questions if any problems arise. Good to have you in, Mike! A certain chap from Paris (don't call him guy - sorry, bad pun) will have a disc in the mail, as well, no matter if he wants it or not

Matana Roberts - Coin Coin Chapter Two: Mississippi Moonchile Rote Fabrik, Zurich, Switzerland - March 22, 2012 Amazing concert, deep, wonderful, touching... and very intense! Wonderful hooking up with her afterwards, took some photos for the great new, independent German music magazine get happy!? (disclaimer: as all contributors, I didn't earn a cent... and our own brownie allowed use of four wonderful Miles photos he made in 1969!), had my copy of "Coin Coin Chapter One: Gens du Couleur Libres" signed, and just had a great time talking! -
I remember the story but I didn't remember that that was you! For shame, for shame! Wasn't me... no kids around here, and my Hill box is in the shelf, where it belongs
-
also, deep in forum history (on the verge of turning into mythology by now), there's story about an Andrew Hill Mosaic box that got lost whilst having been in use as a drawing board for kids in the car... or some such

There was a lengthy discussion about this in some other Miles thread (the one about the huge albums box, I think?)

More Kuhn is always nice! I'd love Swallow to go back to acoustic for that occasion, though...

Don't like that one too much (assuming it's the very same as can occasionally be found in bars over here... bottle looks the same, I think). Will have plenty of Guinness and some healthy pub food for dinner tonight -
Well, the site got freaked up, it's much harder to find news... and the previous method of finding covers of upcoming but not yet officially listed releases (by entering the URL with subsequent catalogue-nos) doesn't work any longer. As for artists left: plenty of them, read through the thread here, there's lots of suggestions! They could easily do two more dozen of sets, I assume, maybe even twice as many.

Howdy, folks! I've missed the last few BFTs, including the one still running... but I'll honor my promise to do the April one, and I hope it will be fun and see some participation! I hope to be ready on April 1, and if possible share links a bit earlier in order to provide those who need physical discs with their copies in time! Had a great Pinot Noir at the restaurant last night (dinner with mère ubu's mother who celebrated her 70th birthday), but I failed to memorise what it was... Now: tea, since we've had no heating (moronic guys administrating things here keep forgetting to check if there's any oil left...) since the very beginning of Saturday. It turned to just around 18 degrees. Not too nice... an oil truck was there an hour ago, but nothing changed yet, still no warm water (hey, taking a shower in the morning really turns into an experience like this ). -
Charlie Parker Records 30CD set
king ubu replied to romualdo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Colin, I think you're correct there... it also seems that as long as there's something written about any given album, it's no problem to use the cover in reasonably small size. However, this new box uses a few in pretty large size in the booklet, which again is unusual. -

king ubu replied to romualdo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think that in the rare cases where Membran actually did license music that wasn't yet 50 years old, they clearly stated so on the covers (that was the case with several Candid albums they released with crappy cover art... those blue ones with a cardboard thingie wrapped around regular jewel cases - they had albums by Pee Wee Russell/Coleman Hawkins, Don Ellis and several others, I think). As there's no such info to be found in the box, I'm not sure... but then the most recent recordings are from around 1965, so it is a bit weird, after all. -

I'm a very happy camper! have listened to about ten of the twofer discs and sound ist mostly good to my ears - better that I'd expected for sure! I tried to put together updated/corrected information for discs 1-16 (didn't yet dare to tackle the Parker material) here: The biggest goof of course is failing to acknowledge Sadik Hakim on half of the "East and West of Jazz", but there are various other small mistakes and missing information. -
Good luck, Jeff!

Just spent two hours going through Bruyninckx and doing some web searches, trying to figure out as much as I could... Here's the thread about the box and its musical contents etc: In this post here, Allen Lowe has posted the information just as it's given in the booklet and on the back of the CD sleeves: page__view__findpost__p__1176476 And here's the list of releases from jazzdiscography.com: http://www.jazzdiscography.com/Labels/parker.htm Please post a comment if you spot any errors or have additional information! Also, I've not even dared thinking of figuring out all the Parker discs (Vols. 16-30, none of them twofers though). If anyone wants to try, I'll gladly add the findings to this post! No, he played alto (and flute) when I heard him and got to hand out with him last year. Wonderful, wonderful sound on alto!

Charlie Parker Records 30CD set
king ubu replied to romualdo's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Yes, flimsy mini-LP sleeves. And as I said, info is lacking... sometimes completely, sometimes it's incomplete/wrong/misleading. Overall, very good value for the price, but don't expect a real quality product. General question to the older guys here: the Bird material: is it mostly (or even entirely) material that's been spread over and over again? Or is there anything that's rare? (I obviously got the box for the Lateef, Jordan, Payne etc. albums, not for Bird (or Pres), where I kind of assumed not to get anything new anyway.) -

Well, I think discogs is what users put in there... it's getting better/more complete as time goes by. It is what it is. Sometimes it's pretty useful though.
