  1. I'd be all for a second LQ set, indeed! (and thanks, Larry!)
  2. Neither do I... Both sets from Antibes? Sure? That would be just great! Those are great concerts. (Though I think some of the fall concerts are even better!) Yes, I do agree - to me, the November tour is kind of the main oeuvre of the Lost Quintet - so the balance of that new set is somewhat off, I find.
  3. Where are they regurgitating the Copenhagen DVD? Not in this set, apparently. Sorry, just noticed my bad... DVD is from Berlin. Not sure how I got to this mix-up.
  4. Am I alone in finding it pretty lame to re-pack the Copenhagen DVD that was in the BB Anniversary set already? They could have done better than that! (Or maybe they still can!)
  5. Got it. Thanks again. If it's all pretty much on other Mosaics I'm not bothered by this. It may be on the McDermott Mosaic. "Been out there" in this case means in plenty a form and shape, but not necessarily on Mosaic...
  6. You don't like the recent stuff? Or are you reacting to the funny guys above?
  7. Another good one, from one of their few reunion concerts (which alas, I all missed): http://www.intaktrec.ch/rev170-a.htm
  8. Happy Birthday!
  9. okay - I mis-read, thought Berlin was part of the audio part also... but if that's on DVD, it will indeed fit, and it will be great! Though there ought to be a second volume covering the November concerts in depth...
  10. Both sets from Antibes? Sure? That would be just great!
  11. Too expensive to ship over the pond... but I'm looking forward to hearing it a lot! Saw the group last november and it was great!
  12. Great news, that 1969 set!!! Too bad though Antibes won't be complete (or would that still fit onto three CDs? I don't think so, but haven't inspected yet).
  13. shit! r.i.p. Pete Cosey
  14. Too bad no one was around to take this over! Btw, what about that session that was to be issued on a Blue Note CD? Whatever happened to that project, why was it shelved? It looks fascinating on paper, to say the very least!
  15. Not sure what I found three weeks ago, but it says Swallow and Drummond indeed!
  16. Happy Birthday, Pete!
  17. I think he's in Geneva, Switzerland. That's what I thought, but there seems to be no info on the webs... and he's not in the Swiss online phone books.
  18. Thanks a lot for that link! I'd still wish that 15CD set would be leaked somewhere... or much better even, (dream on, dream on) be adopted by Mosaic!
  19. WHOAH! Marcus Wyatt in Basel, doing his Blue Note Tribute - wonderful music, full of life - warm, celebratory, but not denying bitterness, sadness. When I approached Wyatt between sets, he said they were slowly getting there, but were not quite yet as crazy as the Blue Notes were. But it was more of a Blue Notes, Brotherhood of Breath and Dyani thing, really, repertoire- and style-wise. Great band, a mix of South Africans and Swiss: Marcus Wyatt (t), Siya Makuzeni (tb, voc), Donat Fisch (as), Domenic Landolf (ts), Afrika Mkhize (p, fender rhodes), Fabian Gisler (b), Ayanda Sikade (d). Drummer Sikade had just flewn in from the Cape... he was on fire, and so was Gisler (Dyani lives! Goddam!) and the rhythms really were cooking like mad! Mkhize played a wonderful piano, running the gamut from Dollar Brand to McGregor to what sounded to me like some Don Pullen-like moments. An amazing flow of ideas, a very warm sound, plenty of humor and complete lack of fear as far as being melodic, elegic even, is concerned. These guys are warriors! In front, there were Makuzeni on trombone (and a pair of stunning, intense vocals), a small lady with a big sound - her bell was pointed straight at me, sitting front row - wonderful to experience the 'bone sound, it's rare that one gets to hear some good trombone players, really! Then there were Landolf (he had two stellar solos in which he kind of fought against melody, against flow, and created his own microtonal stuff, licks, repetitions, turning into some rather frenzied moments) and Fisch (more melodically flowing with a nice bitter-sweet sound) and on the end of the stage, Marcus Wyatt. For long parts he was more like the guy running the game, but he played some wonderful solos too, full of wit and with great feeling for timbre and melody. A marvelous night for sure - the spirit of the beloved gone ZA giants really was invoked, yet the resulting music was different and was these guys' (and the gal's) own, which makes it all the more wonderful.
  20. Alas... and as you keep telling us were not the avant of but the arrierest of gardes, that will likely not change that much, won't it? ;-) Thanks for the info, Chuck. Not my kind of package, but still sounds attractive enough!
  21. So who's the singer on the fascinating youtube-track mentioned above?
  22. Guess what? I should have known about the additional tracks on the Premonition set, huh? Oh well... amongst my other recent Vonski acquisitions is a disc on the Southport label, Fire with Von Freeman - not sure it's been discussed here before, I only found out browsing for more Vonski - and of course had to order a copy- Now, there's a singer involved, by name of Joanie Pallatto (allmusic bio), needless to say I've not heard of her. Might keep some from buying this disc, but her singing on the opening song, "The Thin Line", is mighty fine! Freeman's in good shape, as always. Michael Raynor and Tatsu Aoki are on drums and bass, while Bradley Parker-Sparrow, who runs the Southport label with Pallatto. Freeman had already appeared on one of Pallatto's earlier discs, Passing Tones. He also played on what seems to be a King Fleming disc under nominal leadership of Pallatto, The King and I. Anyone knows these? Worth getting?
  23. I finally got the fourth Premonition album, "Good Forever", and I think I like it most of them all! The live show from The Dakota is amazing, and "The Great Divide" is very good as well, but I do connect somewhat more with "Good Forever" (same band on both). "The Improvisor" has some BAD Vonski on it (well, which of his albums doesn't?) but all in all it's a bit too peacemeal, I find. So... now that I have all four - what's the unissued material, and what's on the DVD? I was unaware there was anything new on that package! Details, anyone?
  24. I think it's quite in print (and pretty great, too): http://www.about-time-records.com/at-1004.html The guy (sorry, it's three a.m. and I'm drunk) who runs that label is registered here, too!
  25. Haven't seen Harland live yet - but sounds like you got to check out Nasheet Waits in person if you get a chance!
