  1. I'd have loved to see my man Roger defeat the Joker... but I was stuck in the office, alas. Will watch the final on Sunday and really, really hope he makes it! He's already the best anyway, but I'd love to see him win another grand slam just to prove wrong all the nay-sayers!
  2. Hey, Barak - wherever you are these days, happy birthday!
  3. But... they already survived one nucular war!
  4. They now do a weird Sassy set (what's THAT "After Hours"? More early stuff?) and the late albums Etta James made for Private Recordings or what that label was called again. Are they running out of ideas?
  5. Fuck no! Very sad news. r.i.p. and thanks for all the fine music! Glad to have caught him live when in Vienna, with Sheila Jordan - an unforgettable night!

    ICP Box set

There's only one ICP! I'd love to get this one, and I think I could afford it, but then it's just too much money in one go... and having to pay immediately when they tell me to isn't that cool, either - would have to save some and plan.
  8. HELLYEAH! THE real OM!
  9. "Duo en noir" is... well, sublime! Really! Wonderful album! Some of the Black Saint box is great, the album with Rudd is mighty fine - but I'd wish for some more there... more, I don't know, freedom to blow, more meat, more... it's still very good and maybe my favorite next to the duo with Ran Blake. I've not heard the one w/Fresu (whom I like quite some, too).
  10. Started reading - very interesting! Even more so as I was involved somewhat in a lengthy article on Pi Recordings.
  11. Urban hard edge? More like Californian soft porn, really
  12. No problem Dan, thanks for clarifying
  13. Thanks Chuck! Will see how the 10" sounds tonight ... Reiner is someone I still need to explore anyway!
  14. stuff banging on animal remains (if gut strings are used, but I guess that's rather rare in pianers ) went to get that Bartók ten incher, will spin it tomorrow night!
  15. Great! I think I've so far not gone wrong buying stuff you recommended, Chuck! But then I'm only slowly building a modest classical collection ...
  16. Okay, will just go and get it, will pass by the store again soon anyway! Thanks! So, how about Kocsis (yes, I've been reading the Uchida wars over in the other thread, hence my inquiry, one never knows...)
  17. Should I go back and grab this 10" LP? I nearly did just for the great cover, but then ... celesta? really? Also, is everyone still happy with the Kocsis box? It's around in a new, cheaper version and I'm somewhat on the fence, maybe not this month, but still... http://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B003Y3MYWW/
  18. So to sum it up: big bands' demise destroyed the nucular family, but if Buddy Rich would have been there, none of this would ever have happened? (edited for typo)
  19. Don't know much of/about Bartók yet, but Lipatti's version of the third piano concerto (Orchestra of the Südwestdeutsche Rundfunk, cond. Paul Sacher, rec. 1948 in Baden-Baden) is amazing! It can be found on the Lipatti EMI ICON box, which contains plenty of other great recordings (Chopin, Mozart, Bach, Schumann, Grieg, Liszt a.o.).
  20. Sounds great, Ricky! Thanks for sharing this background insight!

    Vocalion

Don't have any of the "Impressed" compilations, alas, but I'll search for the stream later on, thanks for mentioning it, Roger! And Sir Bob, gee, do your homework! I was only counting the motto of Roger's new (world) order

    Vocalion

For God and the Empire, then, Roger Congrats! Had to look up "Dejeuner sur l'herbe" (the album... knew about the painting and the film) - needless to say I'd love to hear it! Heard very little Ardley so far, alas.
