  1. Great stuff! Yeah! About half of this weeks's listening was dedicated to that Liszt Piano Collection 10 CD box, and Cziffra (as well as Ogdon's sonata) is outstanding!
  2. Cziffra with Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsodies"!
  3. That IS the 1956 Moscow recording - and it sounds mighty good to my ears! It says "MONO Recordings" in the booklet, so it shouldn't suffer from issues the reprocessed stereo editions do. Sorry, forget to say I'm talking about the DG 2CD set - don't know the larger edition. And I agree with Larry that this trio's "Archduke" is mighty, mighty good! The Heifetz/Feuerman/Rubinstein from 1941 is great, too. But I'd have to compare all the versions first (also have Thibaud/Casals/Cortot, Zukerman/du Pré/Barenboim and Stern/Istomin/Rose).
  4. None received at all - that does upset me! Okay, I've not ordered for a few months, but I've bought 70 or 80 boxes in the past 15 years, and at least a dozen Selects and Singles, each, so I do feel like being part of that community... Are you signed up for the regular emails? Yes, I usually get them (though sometimes I read about them here first and only get them a day or half a day later).
  5. I guess it's when you hear a very distant echo of the music that will actually follow half a second or so later (so it's a pre-echo).
  6. None received at all - that does upset me! Okay, I've not ordered for a few months, but I've bought 70 or 80 boxes in the past 15 years, and at least a dozen Selects and Singles, each, so I do feel like being part of that community...
  7. Great, so it'll be that one then! Thanks guys!
  8. Has anyone actually heard the Keller's takes on the string quartets in the meantime? They're around cheaply and I consider just buying them anyway... The Reiner concerto above was another mighty fine recommendation, Chuck - thanks a lot!
  9. I've just mentioned it elsewhere, but I guess this qualifies for the bargains thread: Aldo Ciccolini Enregistrements EMI 1950-1991 - € 46.60 @ amazon.it
  10. This looks mighty fine! What little I've heard of Grimal (a radio broadcast or two) sounded mighty fine!
  11. Thanks, pre-orded the Debussy/Ravel Martinon set! Thought the Boulez one was out already, not sure, but I think I even saw it in a local store.
  12. I guess it is... so I won't tell the world this time how many times I've bought the Hot Fives so far. But I've little intention to buy them again.
  13. Nah, but you've told us three times, and my assumption is that many here don't care about spotify. Others (lurkers) might be happy about your mentioning it, though...
  14. Guess I can happily live with the Intégrale and one missing take of "I Can't Give You Anything..." those 3CD sets are great!
  15. Mine's okay too, just had to check! That explains why I thought I was turning crazy when I discovered the wrong cover this morning - thought I'd not noticed that wrong spelling over so many years.
  16. Never noticed it - hilarious!
  17. Depends on how my translation comes across ... That Alice-o-phobic said he had proof or whatever about Alice's doings but didn't have his library at hand - I'm curious about the things he comes up with, if he does. I sometimes do! German music forums are a drag, most of the time ... Proof? The plot thickens! She must have replaced Trane's brain sometime late in 1965 without anyone noticing! (I'm only a member of the german RollingStone forum - that's quite fun, most of the time, but obviously the scope goes way beyond jazz, and those interested in jazz are quite few.)
  18. Shit, never managed to catch him in person. r.i.p.
  19. Fixed r.i.p. Rob Pronk
  20. Too much to read over there, but that one guy conservatifitizes (or whatever) himself, even if he says he doesn't. Glad I'm no member there, I'd turn crazy! Also someone tell them that the Düsseldorf set from the 1960 Miles tour (which in its recent reissue still sounds rather crappy, alas - I had hopes since it does seem legit, that they'd try somewhat harder to locate better, undubbed, un-fake-applaused, tapes) isn't a live performance.
  21. Well, 1957 "Tijuana Moods" might have been his best record, but when it finally came out, it had been overtaken by several others. I bet they got that Mingus quote from the time they decided that - oooooh, this is waaaaaay too advanced for the moronic backward-headed auience, let's keep it in the cupboard for five years first, m'kay?
  22. Went to see Bruce Springsteen tonight - was hesitant for a long while, didn't get tickets, bought some from guys outside of the stadium (it only cost me around... oooh, let me think - about 22 local daily papers, 1-1.5 haircuts, three burgers at the pub - not sure how to depict prices here, but I got in for about 2/3 of the official price which was rather crazy, but I guess that's why all these guys bother to visit Switzerland). Anyway, it was effin' unbelievable! Just plain amazing, over three hours of great, great music! First time I saw him live, and I guess indeed you've got to be there to believe it!
  23. (furthermore, Abbey couldn't sing too well... ducks and runs for cover)
  24. Yes, Murray would have deserved set 2, but then how Federer won it was just amazing!
  25. Indeed! Plenty of amazing tennis. Murray played great - must be frustrating to still lose if you play on that level. But then it was terrific to see that Federer can still keep up with the boys. Most of the time, he looked pretty relaxed and easy, as if he still had plenty of reserves. I'm not much of a sports fan in general, but I find Federer a thrill to watch, his elegance, his technical mastery...
