  1. I love this 4CD set, at least the three solo discs in it!
  2. Seems Mr Vilburn will do his new drumparts during holiday season and they're aiming for a late January release! http://www.amazon.com/Live-In-Europe-1969-Bootleg/dp/B008YCMM2A/
  3. Found this one: http://www.goodidea.lu/en/living-decor/high-tech-luxembourg/goodidea/black-records/#0 Not made it there, maybe tomorrow, or else second week I'll be here (leaving on Friday afternoon and invited to office drinks tonight - and late work for the past two days - everything seems to close at 6:30 p.m., not very, uhm, cosmopolitan).
  4. Belated best wishes, Rolf!
  5. Here's the cover: I've got a Konitz disc with Mark Masters somewhere, not sure I've really listened to it yet ...
  6. So the subletitles are gone but we still don't get tags? Quite a change ... I still fondly remember the orange days, but I will get used to it this time, too!
  7. Art Farmer/Benny Golson and the Jazztet doing "Django" on their John Lewis album!
  8. Can't do that as I'm not even registered there, never cared to get a feel for that place, but thanks anyway, Hans!
  9. On the way up, tomorrow, I'll go and hear Yusef Lateef and Archie Shepp (with Mulgrew Miller, Reggie Workman and Hamid Drake) in Ludwigshafen ... and on Monday Nov. 26, I'll be at the Philharmonie Luxembourg, listening to Grigory Sokolov (link)
  10. Oh, that's too bad, but that's one week after my second stay ends! No gigs in Switzerland?
  11. Belated best wishes, Jeff!
  12. Jones/Smith Inc "Lady Be Good" Teddy Wilson (w/Billie Holiday & Lester Young) "Foolin' Myself"
  13. Will spend next week and the last week of November in Luxembourg and wonder if anyone knows of any cool places to hang, listen to some music, have drinks, whatever ... and also if anyone knows of any rekkid stores with dusty old vinyl to flip through or some of those crappy silvery thingies, new or used ... finally, is anyone actually based there and would care for an afterwork drink? (Claude, are you still around? Still based in Luxembourg? Is it true that all shops close at 6:30 p.m.?) Will be there from late on Sunday until Friday afternoon ... only planned/booked activity so far is Grigory Sokolov at the Luxembourg Philharmonic on Monday, November 26.
  14. Sheesh, the "owner" doesn't own anything really, does he? I'm not one of the pirates or anything, but bootlegs belong to the musician or else to everyone or whatever do I know. And demanding (sorry if I misunderstand your first sentence, Mr. Marcello!) a high price (i.e. wanting to make some money out of it) is all the more sorry-assed, I'm afraid to say, even if this is a treasure. I say let's hand it to the Library of Congress or some such institution, at least it should hopefully be conserved then! Anyway, on topic: this 4LP box looks pretty tempting to me, indeed! Has anyone gotten any of the recent Mosaic vinyls, how is quality?
  15. So, will there be a download coupon for the alternate takes?
  16. btw, this little bugger: is called Schnabeltier in german - but it would seem rather difficult to get hold of a real one
  17. My post in here was lost, it seems ... been playing Curson albums all day yesterday, including some Bill Barron and adding some Mingus later on (and continuing with them today). The Curson/Barron pair was very effective, "Tears for Dolphy" is excellent and "The New Thing and the Blue Thing" not too far behind! Also "Pop Wine" is mighty fine, they succeed in keeping things open and multi-directional yet it all flows together into a mighty groove. r.i.p. Ted Curson, thank you for all the fine music!
  18. I would only touch a box of Schnabel interpretations of Bealtes, T-Rex and Motörhead. Remember the days when you had shelves of cheapo CDs at gasoline station stops and everywhere, and they all had these notes: "recordings by original artists"? Here's a box of Schnabel for you:
  19. So that's the entire Bealtes, T-Rex and Motörhead catalogue interpreted by Pink Floyd?
  20. Wonderful box! I ordered it from site that looked rather dubious ... just had to try (there were no used copies around in today's very acceptable price range, see here) and was overjoyed when I got it! Loads of great stuff in there, and in good sound, too! As for the slipcases ... the only one of the VEE's that had one when I got it was the Hank Jones - and of course I kept it. The other early ones I got either used or from stores (dig that!) that tend to throw away the slipcases for whatever reason, as if can't decided what to do with them myself ... too bad, but never mind. The one "lacking" VEE I've got is the Stitt, which had the final page of the booklet cut off (looks like a manufacturing error or something) and instead a crappy b/w photocopy of it glued in ... I don't mind, really, but it's still weird ... but again, when I got it, it was impossible to find it at all - I remember getting it together with the Dizzy and at least one more in a local used shop).
  21. Good pre-order price on amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/The-Complete-1946-1954-Paris-Byas/dp/B009S2U6HI/ As for sound, if Definitive is an indication, it will be rather crappy I guess (and likely even MP3 sourced, you never quite now until you've checked that ... not that I adhere to those who think it matters if crappy editions are MP3-based or not, crap is crap ... but I still don't like buying CDs in those cases). But I'll be happy to be proven wrong. However, as I have the two JiP discs, the Americans Swinging in Paris and the Vogue w/Beryl Booker & Mary Lou Williams, I guess I've got enough (I would though go for a well-done *complete* Byas set of that - or any other! - period)!
  22. I guess as far as legit goes, the 2CD set is still the most recent one. I don't have it at hand, but I think it's chronologically ordered and hence has the trio sides at the end.
