  1. http://www.amazon.com/Sun-Ship-Complete-John-Coltrane/dp/B00B7IJEMY/ These recordings made the rounds ... needless to say I'm overjoyed to see this announced, "Sun Ship" is among my very favorite Coltrane (and that means: jazz) albums! David Wild has this update on his site:
  2. geez-us! (was he clean, btw?)
  3. put in an order ... Tony Malaby's Tamarindo - Live Parker/Guy/Lytton + Peter Evans - Scenes in the House of Music The Convergence Quartet - Song / Dance Peter Evans Quartet - Live in Lisbon Samuel Blaser Quartet - Pieces of old Sky Dennis González NY Quartet - NY Midnight Suite Whit Dickey - Coalescence last year's thread: and a recommendations thread:
  4. Shit, that's crazy! Add 40$ or some for VAT and custom fees ... holy holy!
  5. seems to be some German (?) law that every DVD or CD-set containing a DVD has to carry such a sticker ... in addition you'll get a piece of paper explaining the different categories (it was next to the poster in the slot that they thankfully "invented" in the time since Vol. 1 was released). The stickers look like this:
  6. There are some liners on the backside of my poster (got my copy today as well ... all discs there, the sticker went to the dustbin unread, the DVD sticker right on the digipack was removed without any traces).
  7. I did put in a new email address - no help so far. Guess I'll contact them again ...
  8. Yes, I'm ordering straight from Mosaic whenever possible. But recently got two (running low) Selects and currently waiting for delivery of the Threadgill. Jazzmessengers' service is very good, delivery very fast, too. I'd just be real happy to be included on the Mosaic mailing list again - it's been a year or two and I asked them by mail several times and also entered my email address into the respective window on their site again several weeks back. I don't get it, but they seem to not want me any more or some such ... can't be too much work, I'm sure it's all automated anyway!
  9. Okay, even though I signed up for their mailing list anew (after asking them in mails to please keep sending me mails and being told yes of course) I still get no emails, that is getting weird. Glad to get most relevant information right here.
  10. I'd still love to hear the entire Miles at Fillmore set! Would make a nice next volume of the Bootleg Series! And then the 1971 and 1973 tours, please! 1964 would have been nice, too - but as it's PD over here in yurp, I guess it won't happen.
  11. Hey, that thread was mine ... I can relate to your points, but as with Niko, I can accept this policy by now without being too annoyed (but not without making some remarks every now and then). It took a while, but I think actually we've even had some interesting discussions on sense and nonsense of copyrights as exerted in different kingdoms (the one of Macca and Jimmy Cliff's, for instance, also know as the US of A). Guess it's best to take it all with humour and just not post too many links
  12. Got my package yesterday, two times "Symphony" and once "Camden '70". Gave one listen to "Symphony" so far and am playing it again right now - sounds mighty great! Having issues though with the shop (themusicindex.com, the one you end up when going via the link provided in post #1) - they put a total value of 40£ (plus 9£ shipping, makes 49£), instead of the total (including shipping) 35£. This meant I had to pay around 20€ for VAT and custom taxes. I'm working on getting that back, but I have low hopes. I don't think I've ever had this happen ... I wouldn't think it's necessary to tell them to please not put too high but a correct value on the custom's declaration
  13. Gee, my best wishes to Mr. Haden, love his music!
  14. very sad news ... haven't explored much of his conductions, but I always enjoyed whatever I heard, also his appearances on cornet.
  15. Plenty of big sets on backorder, yes ... as for Selects, I wonder if the Bobby Hutcherson will ever be back at all! Says end of Januar 2013, which is now ... let's hope that's roughly true, I just want it before it goes the way of the dodo, too! That one has been on backorder for like seven years (at least that's how long it feels to me).
  16. I'd think so, too! I rang them up to ask and that's the answer I got, and the guy even had the guts to add: "and now, what exactly is your question?" - ha! No use debating with someone like that! The fees they add here are about the same, but around 50€ is tax- and fee-free (same if it's Europe or overseas though, as we're not part of the former either). Jazzmessengers can be asked about the declaration value, too, btw - only did it once so far and it worked fine, now I'm waiting for the Threadgill from them (Mosaic says "second half of 2013", that can mean nearly another year of waiting, which I'm not patient enough for right now, sorry!)
  17. Oh, it's only spot tests here, too ... I just had some back luck, I guess!
  18. Good to hear! Hope you'll stay a customer! An alternative (sometimes a bit cheaper) for European orders is the shop jazzmessengers.com from Barcelona (they're a real store with mail order, as I understand it). Excellent service and fast delivery, too (though delivery can of course be slowed down massively by customs or your country, happened to me quite often and with annoying taxes and fees lately ... even if they just do a routine check and the result is: no taxes due, I've got to pay for them doing that check, now if that ain't crazy ...).
  19. Oh, Lola, too! Wonderful film! I just wonder what else will be in there, as it's plenty of discs. Will do some searching as well, then! Found this on the FNAC site: I'm sold! Taken from there, contents are: 1-Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (1/2) 2-Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (2/2) + Lola + La Baie des anges + Les 7 péchés capitaux 3-Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (1/2) 4-Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (2/2) + L’Evènement le plus important depuis que l’homme a marché sur la lune 5-The Young Girls of Rochefort (version américaine des Demoiselles de Rochefort) 6-Peau d’âne 7-Lady Oscar 8-Parking / Trois places pour le vingt-six 9-Suites symphoniques : Peau d’âne (suite symphonique) / Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (version instrumentale) / Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (suite symphonique) 10-Maquettes, essais, séances de travail, play-backs 11-Reprises et relectures : Bill Evans, Tony Bennett, Stéphane Grappelli, Sergio Mendes, Catherine Michel, Isabelle Aubret
  20. What will be in there? All the film soundtracks? What are they? I'm very tempted if only be the wonderful experience that catching "Les Demoiselles de Rochefort" in the movies was, but ... I'd like to know a bit more!
  21. He's been hyped to a point that I never felt I needed to check him out ... but I think I got a freebie disc with a few tracks from French Jazz Magazine/Jazzman somewhere, will have to look for it.
  22. Finally dug up the shoebox from under piles of other classical discs ... All of discs one, two and six is in the box only with the NBC Orchestra, Debussy's "La Mer" with the NBC and Philadelphia Orchestras. Not sure about disc three, some of it may be on Volume 72 (a 2CD set with the BBC Symphony Orchestra) in the box. Those two discs also contain the Beethoven Symphonies 1, 4, and 6, but not Symphony No. 7 (discs four and five of the ICON). I guess most of discs three to five is the overlap, while some of those and all of discs one, two and six is not in the big box. But still I don't really see the need for owning this new EMI box, too ... if there's any piece not part of the big box, it must be hidden among the overtures and show pieces on disc three.
  23. Many thanks for those reports and remembrances! Fascinating to gain some more knowledge around those great albums! Oh how I'd wish there were more recordings from that early stage of AACM music!
  24. Very sad news. Short LA Times obit: http://jazztimes.com/articles/72009-pianist-rahn-ron-burton-dies-at-78
  25. Maybe you can record your sing-along and issue a "commented version"? I'm sure the texts will be easier to understand with your voice added
