But it's a CDR set, as far as I know .... the one I saw (a friend ordered it, I think from amazon.co.uk) was, at least. Guess the two Proper sets would be good, too - but the first has plenty of early stuff that I'd not view as essential, at least not for a new Tubbs listener. I'd also look for some of the albums out on Universal's impressed re:pressed series (Mexican Green, Tubbs, Tubbs Tours etc) ... the two Solveig discs are also very nice ... and there's some on Candid - but it's quite a mess, really, with all the cheapo sets around and all their overlap (Avid 2CD set, Flamingo 3CD set, two Propers, the complete Tempo set). The non-PD releases usually are a rather costly affair.

Yep, I fully agree! And alas that Surman that did come out recently (it was very short, just an excerpt, I guess) wasn't one of the good ones. I managed to compile a few dozen of these jazz workshops by now and there's loads really good stuff there! Sessions with Lucky Thompson for instance, the well-known one with Wes Montgomery, Johnny Griffin and Martial Solal, even Barney Wilen turns up on one! But this is an existing label (for which these are already quite a departure in style, it seems), not someone at NDR mining the vaults, so I'd not hope for too much.

Thanks for getting back to me, Mike! But I was there ... I get redirected to the site http://publichifi.bigcartel.com/ and there when I put the CD into the cart, it says "select another country, we don't ship to Switzerland" (same for any other country I tried, Germany, France, Zimbabwe ...). It works for the vinyl, but shipping is 25$ which is rather steep (I guess for the CD, a maximum of 15$ should do?)

Exactly - was posting from the phone before and keeping it short. And now I just searched for some very old mails (I keep being deleted off hat's mailinig list or the providers or the NSA sorts them out as dangerous spam, who knows, after all free jazz is a weapon) and can confirm that's exactly the address and spelling displayed there.

The provider's name is bluewin and email addresses are spelt accordingly.

Thanks, didn't notice yet ... guess that makes the first disc pretty superfluous, with that Dizzy band being rather ... uhm well yeah.

Announced for September release, label looks real, let's hope there'll be more! http://www.amazon.de/Years-Edition-Vol-1-Ndr-Studio-Hamburg/dp/B00DJLOBCA/ http://www.amazon.de/Years-Jazz-Edition-Vol-2-Live-Hannover/dp/B00DJLOBOI/ Sorry if these have already been reported elsewhere. Here's a link to the site of the label: http://moosicus.com/

Is he a bebop musician? Are Russ Johnson and Peter Evans? And was Woody? What's the idea of this "lineage", isn't a lineage implicitly or explicitly assuming development and hence a movement away from bebop? I don't quite get what's on the table here. But Lester Bowie needs to be mentioned, I definitely know that! Almost went to see him in Jeff Watts big band on Saturday but alas I saw Tony Malaby again.... Next time..... Now you, sir, must start work on trying to catch others and not just Malaby again and again

One of those little-known George Russell guys ... all of them darn fine players! I guess he was really more than that, but that's where I first heard him (and David Baker and Dave Young and Paul Plummer) and that somehow stuck. r.i.p. (edited to complete sentence)

Labels specialising in French chamber music

Well, the amazon offer does look a bit strange (using what I guess is the cover put together for the download and all) ... but you can always return it if they send you a CD-R, I guess. -

Can't see the irony ... but anyay, much of the Chambers is good rather than very good or excellent, I think. But I hugely enjoy the quartet session with Coltrane, Drew and Philly Joe ... and I've got a soft spot for "Whims of Chambers" (which I bought in Athens, of all places, on a highschool excursion to Greece). -

No clue, but you can also get it as CD-R from amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Boismortier-Serenades-Francaises-Fragments-Melodiques/dp/B00004YYQR/ Or even better, as a real CD (unless I didn't catch some of the small print) from the UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00004YYQR/ -
Russ Johnson is excellent indeed!

The c-melody sure helps getting over transposing issues and you and the woman on the piano stool can get right to business

Smart choice, brownie! Same here, though it feels like it's getting a bit less hot here ... it was up to 35° now for several days, the apartment is stuffy. I'll escape to the movies again tonight (they're showing "Year of the Dragon"), there it's dark and cool and quiet

Glad I got them both ... though they've seen little play so far (had half of the Dizzy on single discs before and haven't really started exploring Chu other then enjoying him pop up here and there in other contexts ... and got that Commodore disc where some of his tracks are paired with some Hawkins - phantastic music!) -
Price on this goes up and down ... got mine from amazon uk when it was similarly cheap. Haven't listened to it yet, but there's a single disc by Harry Christopher and The Sixteen on Virgin that I enjoyed a lot.
