I've got an order held hostage by one pre-order item for two weeks or so now though - there seems to really be no logic behind it all. (And shipping together often isn't an option anyway, since no matter if you order through .fr, .de, .it or .co.uk, it may come from a Germany, France or the UK warehouse - don't think I ever had anything actually come from Italy, though I very often order there.)

a few more: Haynes is on four titles, including "One Mint Julep" - Sonny Payne is on the other six that's a very good one! that one's not quite that good, methinks (her Verve albums before Creed stepped in were mostly very good, some of them darn effin' unbelievable)

Very good, thanks! -
Not sure that strategy will work - they might ship this when it's available, rather than wait (they have the tendendcy to ship larger sets separately anway - they might come from different warehouses, whatever ...)

Yeah, I thought about that...but something just doesn't sound right. There are tapes for the very first Hat Hut....but not the other two later ones they had to needle drop on? Uehlinger doesn't come across as someone who would throw out the original tapes....especially anything by McPhee. The whole thing started to record McPhee. It's like Chuck throwing out AACM related tapes, or any tapes. I wouldn't know if the tapes stood with Uehlinger or went with McPhee. Remember Uehlinger was a newbie then, he actually just made this McPhee record, then another one, and one more ... and eventually started his label, while still working a day job (which had initially led to his travels and the chance to meet McPhee in the first place). So it's not like he was this exacting record label guy from the git go, rather to me his story sounds like fortuna was in place, too. But why don't anyone send a mail to C vs D and inqire? -
Thanks - I stumbled over that wirz.de listing a few minutes ago. Some of that does look nice! As for Western Swing ... I'll happily as for advice in some more appropriate place once I feel like digging deeper there (and hey, if you dig in good soil, you'll finde worms, there ... it's a good thing).

Thanks! Western Swing is a can of worms I've hardly opened yet ... don't plan to go there anytime too soon, just got the two Bob Wills JSP sets so far, they're very good.

It's another clemified thread (what a moronic thing that was, Mr. clem! too bad the board software allows for that at all!), so you will get some non sequiturs. What are those Krazy Kat reissues, don't know them!

CD's to sell (while in Paris for another week)

Makes perfect sense ... and in light of the tons of stuff around here (and the good ones I expect yet to discover in Otter's catalogue), I definitely don't need that one! -
they've got a website, too - but nothing there on the box (nothing much there anyway except for fancy looks): http://www.impulse50.com/ But HMV Japan has a small pic: and CDUniverse has a partial tracklist (up to disc 21): http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8620770&style=music&fulltracklist=T anyway, at that price there's probably not close enough new stuff in there for me ...
-
Bumping this fine thread since ... ... a recommendation on another forum just prompted me to check out Buddy Johnson's band ... and for sure there's some fine blowing (I've got the 1947-49 Chrono disc) by these guys David Van Dyke and Purvis Henson!

How's the Otter/Mehldau? I love her singing but can't really imagine what this could be like ... apart from the Beatles, the tunes look like an interesting lot, too. But samples make me go "huh?", to be frank. -

How could they get alternate takes by doing needle drop? Just edit out a few seconds here and there and call it "alternate"? -
more (too many covers for one post, sorry):

Michel Legrand Anthology (15 CD)

Then I'm not sure what your point is at all, sorry. They play by the rules - and this box is quite certainly not all PD material (i.e. "Communications '72" was recorded in 1971). And it does happen now and then that majors share their stuff amongst each other (surely not for free, I reckon), the inclusion of some Columbia material is certainly not unprecedented (though come to think of it, that may be PD material, too - which would indeed beg the question what sources they're using ... I'd hope they'd still pay Sony some to get good material to work from). -
Damn, Gaslini fell off the truck (or rather: out of the flimsy amazon package), Bley was still in there, but one corner bruised (outer box only, so I'll just keep it). In light of the Gaslini not being currently in stock and the price having gone up, I really, really hope they're not just giving me a refund, I'd really be mad if they did! Oh how I'd love to have real record stores (but not those we had where this Gaslini box would have cost 100 € at least).

Wow! "Trinity" was the first McPhee that really hit me smack in the face ... love all the McPhee from that vintage! -
Would say very low chance ... but I'd gladly be proven wrong, even more so if they added Barney's "Zodiac" next time 'round (I've got it to listen, but still would love a "real" copy of it).

Trivia: the lady here seems to have done the artwork for "Edge-Ing" (which is actually the trio soonafter known as "Trio 3", plus Charles Eubanks on piano):

Got the Farmer and Lake out of the mailbox a few minutes ago - since the lp jackets are just about readable to me, I was happy to see ALL the Farmers come with original back-covers (while Lake is on the other end, there's only one out of seven, and that one has no liners, just a Thulani Davis poem).
-
Yes, they'd be most nice to have, but alas ... got my Cyrille set today, guess the others will arrive tomorrow or the day after.
