I have these two:
-
No, alas not. And never heard of Jones Jones, but I'll take a mental note for whenever I next order from Not Two.
-
Thanks, good to know! (Cuypers is the way his name is usually spelt though - but I guess that's the same as with Raaymakers then) And sorry about misspelling Noordijk's name - I should know!
-
Oh, I understand - weird, don't think I ever noticed the proper spelling (and I'm all for ignunts learning foreign names and not dumbing it down too much ... we're not talking Chinese names or anything)! So is it Leo Cuijpers, too? Does the "y" not exist in dutch names at all or are both variants possibley, what about Martin Van Duynhoven? (And for Piet Nordijk it's clear, never saw that with a "y")
-
Sad to hear this ... got that Breuker retrospective last year and am enjoying it a lot, including Raaymakers' contributions. (Usual spelling seems to be Raaymakers, not sure there are variants in dutch, but don't think so.)

Alto, Cello and Ukulele? Looking for recs for my grandsons
king ubu replied to gmonahan's topic in Recommendations
I know he did the royal (whot?) wedding and stuff, Sheku Kanneh-Mason seems to be a talent to watch ... saw him in recital in December (with big sis Isata on pianer), they did a Boccherini virtuoso thingie to kick off the concert, then the Poulenc sonata, and after the break the Debussy, and one of fhe Brahms sonatas, and then the above Holst piece as an encore ... while it was not a polished presentation by far, and while I think he needs to work on projecting his sound a bit more, it became quite clear that he's really into it, not a wunderkind or anything like that, but a gifted you artist that hopefully will stick with it and develop into a truly outstanding musician. -
any comments on the booklet (quality/length of essays etc)? btw, "label-side down" can end up much worse, as there's no thick protective layer of plastic on that side, a deep scratch on the label side may not just impact readability but actually destroy the disc

I managed to get the TOJC of "Natural Essence" recently ... overpaid a bit, but not too much - so they may do whatever they want for the 90th (a reissue of the complete Art Hodes Blue Note sessions would be nice, though, but I know that's not gonna happen) and I'm out
-
Yup, those reissue covers are foogly ... but I'm not inclined to buy these again just because of covers (if that, it would need to be LPs I guess)
-
well, here's a review of a 2015 gig: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/05/arts/music/review-keith-jarrett-at-carnegie-hall-precise-and-aglow.html my understanding is that the "La Fenice" release was put forth instead of a new solo recording that was planned to be made from one of the cancelled concerts, but don't ask me where I got that from ...
-
available for little money straight from Enja as well: .. which also goes for "Taro's Mood", which was expanded to two discs: (though the second is fairly short indeed)
-
What - or rather: which ones - are "the four Deep Reality Hino discs"? I have three of the Takt by now, the other four are on order from CD Japan, will be a while (I think they're not even shipped yet, and shipping takes 3-6 weeks usually, going with the cheap option).

No one needs counts (except for guillotines ) Not sure I have any earlier releases on Acrobat at home -- Ok, found one more - CD-R as well, Herts. address there: https://www.amazon.de/Jazz-At-Philharmonic-Seattle-1956/dp/B005EN4JKK/

this is the Tubby Hayes in question: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Tempo-Recordings-1955-59-Tubby/dp/B00B7GBJP6 not sure there's any address, the inlay can be seen there (just a website there)

Okay, got to revisit it ... wasn't that enthralled upon first listen I'm afraid (enjoyed the recent "Nightconcert" more).

Still unwilling to buy again, even more so if the Retrieval needs to stay (for the additional material) ... is sound that much better that it's worth considering so?
-
Yup, selling CD-Rs "undercover" is really a shame. And indeed I have that Tubby Hayes set as well (not sure there was a second one after that). Their booklets also are good-quality home-made prints, the paper is not what you usually get. I stopped buying their product. Not sure if this is different with R&B reissues the do, but I guess numbers of sold units and storage costs just don't add up.
