  1. Now that's some funny sh*t! Missed that thread back then ... also never caught Candy live, alas.
  2. and yeah, occasionally I enjoy a Ragusa ... as a kid I ate this crap (ever read how the "smoky" taste is fabricated and what's added to the "glue" in a Mars? you better don't if you want to go on eating this stuff) here's another Swiss classic that I prefer to Ragusa and that's pretty much no bull-shit as well: some background in this crappy promo that acts like it's news: http://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/news/feature/The_secret_of_a_Swiss_sweet_success.html?cid=7818558
  3. Hey, good to see you around, hope all is well! Here, I think Oliver Lake leads with five appearances (Trio 3 or co-led affairs all), Bob Dylan four times ... not sure how often I saw some rhythm section players, really.
  4. There are a few tracks without KD: he lays out #6-7 of the first and #2-3 of the second disc. Disc two was all new/prev. unreleased in the 1997 edition, to my knowledge. So really, there's one album here (disc one, #1-4), and 12 bonus tracks.
  5. Had never had that happen ... but I'm not sure if I ever ordered a Select on its own. Anway, the Select outer boxes always were flimsy and usually too big, for whatever reason, so mine most often get crushed a bit after a while anyway.
  6. I know this is off topic here, but since you mention it ... I wonder why anyone really needs those RVGs of Prestige material (or the Keepnews Editions or OJC Remasters) when the old Fantasy discs in almost every case seem to sound good? (I know, some OJC Remasters and Keepnews Edition discs contained bonus material or were hard to come by or not on CD before, so I went for them ... but in general, I don't quite see the point all that much there. Care to offer your opinion on this? Lon, too?
  7. Are they bred to do so or are they conditioned after birth? Altough I have very little sympathies for such breeds, I'm more with Jazzmoose here. I grew up around dogs, never had anything serious (actually nothing non-serious either), even though one of them was an aggressive as hell small terrier. My parents tought us kids how to behave and how to treat the dog and it all went perfectly well. Growing up I was eventually even able to pat it ... and it was incredible sad to see the tough bastard make up his mind and slowly leave us (he just stopped eating, then drinking ... and it took days, weeks even, he still seemed kinda alright, but eventually there was nothing left to do but call the vet. Much sadder was fifteen years later (about ten years ago) having to call the vet to kill our next family dog, the one I picked ... glad I happened to be there with my mother when that day took place. Some sad cat stories, too, but I told them before, I think (and I'm afraid dog-lovers will bully me outta this thread real quick, though frankly it never got in my head why so many people seem to have to take an either/or choice .... that tough little sucker I just mentioned even lived along a cat for a few months, before she was run over by a car ... that was before my memory kicks in though). And all the best to your three-legged companion, Dave!
  8. That's great news! Seriously, that's desert island stuff! I thought it might not because in the list above it says "bonus" for some discs. Like this, I'd advise to pluck the day ... or some such. I might even be tempted myself, just because. Although with all the stuff I keep buying it's really super silly to get duplicates.
  9. Ignorant question, apologies: which ones would those be? And was the Heavyweight box all in stereo?
  10. often just 4.15€ at amazon.it, where I bought about two dozen ... and indeed "Made in EU" - but there's a lot more available in the Japanese batches (though I'm not sure all the wannabees are part of the Japanese reissue series, I lose overview of all these too quickly!)
  11. No newsletter announcing this? I just wanted to sign up (again) but was told I'm still signed up, so ... any idea how long the sale will go on? I'd love to order a bunch of things (including that Tamarindo trio disc!), but my end of Feb. budget will mostly go to Mosaic ...
  12. Anyone familiar with the Rita Reys and John Lewis albums?
  13. Will the Barneys contain the bonus tracks? From the above list, it seems no ... which is a darn crime against music lovers!
  14. Okay, thanks!
  15. Happy Birthday, John!
  16. Belated best wishes, Hans!
  17. (the pic is the cover of the 4CD edition of the Gershwin songbook - just the edition to go for, if you want the album - skip the various euro-crap PD ones!)
  18. bump ...let me ask again: are we talking Warner Japan only? Or have those Euro-Wannabe-Makebelieve-Japanese reissues appeared recently as proper Japanases reissues and the remasterings used are identical?
  19. Happy Birthday, Mike! Thanks so much for all the music you inspired me to check out!
  20. "Doin' Alright" and "Our Man in Paris" are my favorites ... took me longer to warm to "Go" and "A Swingin' Affair", Sonny Clark notwithstanding ... but I enjoy them all!
  21. charmingly ragged indeed! how 'bout Griffin? I still love "The Congregation" more than almost any other of his albums, even if that's mainly because of the title tune, which is my favourite Griffin tune ever ... also played "Am I Blue" again and again and again in the years passed since this thread was up, and it grew pretty dear to me
  22. You ought to get the Fischer! (And I ought to get the Steig ...)
