  1. Obsession - Brian De Palma (1976)
  2. I've always liked Patsy Cline. I'm no country fan but her voice cuts across musical boundaries. I don't have anything original to add, just that she had a great voice and knew how to use it. I've also got The Patsy Cline Story., plus a great, Japan only ' Best of', which is very enjoyable.
  3. The Assassin - Hou Hsiao-hsien (2015) I've now watched this three times but am still unable to follow the storyline. It hardly matters as the visual splendour more than compensates for the murky plot. The trailer looks very interesting. I hope it lived up to your expectations.
  4. I'm afraid I'm a Luddite and still use an old style flip top mobile phone. Although I'm interested in technological innovation, for some reason I'm yet to be converted to the church of the smart phone.
  5. Netflix Criminal : United Kingdom Very good indeed. A trilogy of police interviews with slippery, unsavoury miscreants. The level of acting and writing are impressive. Recommended.
  6. He'll certainly be mourned by a lot of people. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to how many sessions he's worked on, to say nothing of his own consistently excellent leader work. He seemed to have found a new lease of life recently, popping up on recordings everywhere, no small thanks to Smoke Sessions Records.
  7. The last three nights - A Most Violent Year - J.C. Chandor (2014) A Most Wanted Man - Anton Corbijn (2014) Sicario - Denis Villeneuve (2015)
  8. The House Of Mirth - Terence Davies (2000)
  9. It had been boiling hot until a hair raising thunder & lightning storm last night. The temperature has dropped about 8C overnight. We are now enjoying a wonderfully balmy 26C. It's such a relief to be able to turn off the AC and open the windows for the first time since the third week in July.
  10. I knew there had been major problems synchronizing the image and sound, that had only been overcome recently. I'm just glad someone put this out. Of course I've had the record since it's release but seeing it is a whole new level of involvement. Does anyone know anything about the energetic choir leader , Alexander Hamilton ?
  11. Amazing Grace - Sydney Pollack (2018) Incandescent, intense and absolutely inspiring. A must see. Yesterday - Danny Boyle (2019) From the sublime Aretha to the ridiculous, worst ever Danny Boyle film. Without the music this would have been nothing, with embarrassingly squirmish dialogue and facepalm attempts at humour. Just my opinion, of course.
  12. This week's episodes of- The Affair, Peaky Blinders and Succession.
  13. The Sarah Vaughan Roulette has had a lot of play, I really like it. Others that I like that don't get much mention are the John Handy Select and the Lionel Hampton Victor Sessions.
  14. Too Big To Fail - Curtis Hanson (2011)
