Great stuff. After a long series of failures, that have proved what a difficult feat this is, congratulations are definitely in order. I look forward to the forthcoming photographs. -
The sound quality is fine, at least I think so. The set is excellent and I recommend it to you, especially at the low price.

Cell phones ! Nearly got run down by a clown riding his motor bike with one hand whilst gabbing on his dreaded cell phone. I hate them. All the addicts clicking away all the time drive me nuts. Bring back carrier pigeons !

I'd also add a plug for ' The River'. Black, Brown & Beige is maybe my favourite. Also like The Perfume Suite, or what bits of it that exist. Red Carpet is another one seldom mentioned.

I don't think the Graham Bond Quartet , in the McLaughlin/Baker/Seaman form recorded anything. The following band, the Graham Bond Organization does have a couple of cds available, if you can find them. The line up was-Bond-hammond and alto, Jack-electric bass, Dick Heckstall Smith-tenor and Ginger Baker on drums. Jack and Ginger later left the band to form Cream with Clapton. One of the cds was called ' There's A Bond Between Us' but I can't remember the other title right now.

Get well soon Jack. I once spent an hour chatting with him in the students union bar at Sheffield University. He is a real music fan besides being a great bassist. I've seen him over the years in a variety of bands but first noticed him playing acoustic bass with the Graham Bond Quartet, with consisted of Bond on hammond and alto, Phil Seaman on drums and John McLaughlin on guitar. Quite a band.

I'd also suggest Walt Weiskopf. The one mentioned by Lawrence is ' Anytown', which also features Renne Rosnes. All the Gary Smulyans are interesting. I have over a hundred CC and can suggest many more if you are interested. Of recent ones I would definitely get the JD Allen, featuring Jeremy Pelt, that's a must have imho. I also like all the Orrin Evans titles very much especially ' Listen To The Band',but stay away from his recent one on Palmetto !

What is the Magical Mystery Tour lp ? In UK it was released as an ep, which I still have. I guess it must be reasonably valuable, not that I would ever part with it, if only for sentimental reasons.

2nd today. Any idea how to stop these pests ? FROM THE DESK OF: MR.Yi XU MING BANK OF CHINA SHENZHEN CHINA Dear Friend I am Mr. Yi Xu Ming, Bank Manager Of Bank Of China Shenzhen In China. I have urgent and very confidential business proposition for you.On Nov 6, 1998, a British Oil consultant/contractor with the Chinese Solid Minerals Corporation, (Name deliberately with held) made a numbered time (Fixed) Deposit for twelve calendar months, valued at US$30,000,000.00(Thirty Million Dollars). Upon maturity, I sent a routine notification to his forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his contract employers, the Chinese Solid Minerals Corporation that the depositor died from an automobile accident. On further investigation, I found out that he died without making a WILL, and all attempts to trace his next of kin was fruitless. I therefore made further investigation and discovered that the depositor did not declare any kin or relations in all his official documents, including his Bank Deposit paperwork in my Bank. This sum of US$30,000,000.00 is still sitting in my Bank and the interest is being rolled over with the Principal sum at the end of each year. No one will ever come forward to claim it. According to Laws of China, at the expiration of 5 (five) years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Chinese Government if nobody applies to claim the fund.Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you as a foreigner to stand in as THE NEXT OF KIN to the depositor so that the fruits of this old man's labor will not get into the hands of some corrupt government officials. This is simple, I will like you to provide immediately your full names and address so that the attorney will prepare the necessary documents and affidavits that will put you in place as the next of kin. We shall employ the services of an attorney for drafting and notarization of the WILL and to obtain the necessary documents and letter of probate/administration in your favor for the transfer. A bank account in any part of the world that you will provide will then facilitate the transfer of this money to you as the beneficiary/next of kin. The money will be paid into your account for us to share in the ratio of 80% for me and 20% for you. There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this transaction will be done by the attorney and my position as the Bank Manager guarantees the successful execution of this transaction. If you are interested, please reply immediately via the private email address above. Upon your response, I shall then provide you with more details and relevant documents that will help you understand the transaction. Please confirm your sustained willingness to assist in this transaction by sending your urgent reply via my email address. Thanks and regards. Mr. Yi Xu Ming. Good to see 'Painted From Memory' getting a positive mention. It was never off my player for weeks after it's release. ' Armed Forces' is still my favourite by a nose, it is available here ,in Japan, with extra tracks, as are almost all the others. Almost Blue has eight additional tracks. I'll put the new one on my must hear list.

Don't forget the two Prestige/New Jazz sets, Testifying and Young Blues recorded at Englewood by RVG. Into Somethin' is a must have though.

The singles collection is not only great but is beautifully packaged , complete with a cut out Peggy Lee doll!
-
Of the more recent new viewings, Spike Lee's ' 25th Hour' stood out . A very fine film.

Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy out on dvd
kinuta replied to kinuta's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The 'Smiley Trilogy' is outstandingly good.Without resorting to hyperbole, the best spy novels ever written, period, The third book ' The Honourable Schoolboy', does not feature him in a central role, but it is still first class. Please follow these with LeCarre's other great book ,' The Perfect Spy'. Nothing he has written since can compare, he has floundered around looking for themes, but his greatest work was centered on the cold war. -

Alec Guinness is Smiley. it is regarded as among the greatest things ever seen on the BBC, and the supreme adaption of Le Carre to the screen. It has languished in the vaults for years but seems to have been a benefactor of the new Beeb policy of slowly opening the film vaults. Smileys People, also with Guinness , is scheduled for release on dvd soon ! My copy of TTSS is winging it's way to me as I write. I can't wait to watch it. I have The Untouchable, it's very good. -
At long last this treasure from the BBC is available on dvd. Check out Amazon.uk. The Beeb seems to be finally opening it's vaults, other lost gems like Tommy Cooper, Hancock and Morcombe & Wise are now available.

I'll also give a big thumbs up to ' Monsoon Wedding', a real delight. I've been to India three times spending over a year there, and can think of few other films that capture the essence , humour, pathos and feeling of the place so well as this one. The music is fine too, with great use of colour and totally natural acting, everything seems very natural.

Barbara Carroll - The Complete RCA Trio Recordings
kinuta replied to bebopbob's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Most of them are available here in Japan. If you needed any help getting them I'd be willing to help. -
I prefer ' Stop And Listen'. 'Willow Weep For Me ' is a classic. Sorry, I thought the Argo was pretty over rated.
-
Roy Hargrove ' Parker's Mood' (Verve) is very good.

It's great. Nothing more to say.
