The 80`s were not a succesful decade for Soul music .... watered down by so-called "R`n`B" and increasing Rap influences the survivers of the "Disco Yers" had faced times indeed .... but this platter has it all - the songs, the voices and no fillers - and despite being labeled "a critical favorite" the (commercial) success was comparatively negligible .... a great S-O-U-L album ....

Reynaldo Jorge And His Orchestra "No Llores Mas" (Barbaro) 1981 .... the otherwise (to me) unknown lead singer J.R. Torres glides along the cool grooves set by Gilberto "Pulpo" Colón (piano) and Daniel Ponce (bata) ....

Lalo Rodriguez "Ya No Te Quiero" (Disoco Perla) 1982 .... a luxury coro consisting of Santos Colón, Tito Gomez and Yayo El Indio challenges Lalo Rodriguez to some great singing ....

Anna Gourari plays Sofia Gubaidulina "Ciaccona" (Decca) 2005 .... unfortunately the only track feat this composer, the remainder being written by Alexander Scriabin (expertly performed, but not what you are looking for .... me believe) ....

The story/career of Mark Markolino Dimond shares some similarities to Frankie Dante like lack of recognition from the public .... in Dimond`s case a main game breaker was the lame marketing of his superb "Buijeria" album, which made him subsequently susceptible to drugs .... to make things worse, in 1977 - due to the increased popularity of Angel Canales - Alegre Records blatantly reissued Brujeria under the title Angel Canales, Mas Sabor .... subsequently Dimond dropped out of business for nearly a decade .... and never came back, as he died at the age of 36 years ....

Nelson Freire plays Bach, Chopin and Villa-Lobos "live" @ Amsterdam on February 13th, 2005 .... great to hear him perform Schumann op 17, which he never recorded in studio for CD release ....

Hector Lavoe "Rompe Saraguey" (Fania Records) 1975 .... feat. an ingenious piano solo by Mark Dimond ....

His songs were often socially and politically conscious resulting his music was blacklisted - "Me Quieren Crucificar" aka "The Want To Crucify Me" - which led subsequently to a waning popularity. He was suffering from that before physical illness took over .... he is rarely mentioned with the big name soneros of the 70`s .... what a shame ....

A proven Schumann expert at work on a period piano .... worth hearing for sure ....
