Hard to choose between both recordings which virtually nail the music's slavic roots .... Suk possibly more mature in the later performance .... btw the 1978 recording (not reissued on CD ?) can be found in bargain bins for less than a pittance .... highly recommended ....

Would be interested and appreciate to hear more abour specific memories (musicians, groups) of your's reg the Salsa scene in the early 90's .... I believe from the mid/late 80's onward this genre's industry changed and classic Salsa had to take a backseat ....

Although the same composition the "latinized" version by Conrad Herwig on "Que Viva Coltrane" is great ....
