  2. thnx for your feedback - so me being afraid in case chuck is not keen to share his knowledge based on the selfimposed teaser in post no.6 our status will remain in the shadows......... :-((
  3. @ubu : shadowy in the sense how long it took btw which protracted steps had to be taken to make this release happen ...... @chuck : chills of joy, I presume ? @ mikeweil : yes - definitely worth a listen !!
  4. @mikeweil : what in detail was "this" - do you have any infos ??
  5. Recorded in 1981 under shadowy circumstances, Gulda sets a prime example how to perform Mozart Sonatas....
  6. Nice memory, Vic. I, too, saw Ted Curson during his time in Europe - at the Chat Qui Pêche in Paris. BillF, any specifc memories abut the gig you`ve witnessed @ Chat Qui Pêche in Paris ? Emil Unfortunately no, Emil. I can't even remember if it was 1964 or 1968! Yeah, time is fading - and so are memories ;-)..............I would tend to believe it was in /around 1964........Thnx for your feedback nevertheless !
  7. Just wondering, whether the Rhino set incorporates all tracks from subject lovely ACE compilation released in 1992......
  8. Chuck, any more specific infos on this seemingly substantial lot of unreleased material ?
  9. Nice memory, Vic. I, too, saw Ted Curson during his time in Europe - at the Chat Qui Pêche in Paris. BillF, any specifc memories abut the gig you`ve witnessed @ Chat Qui Pêche in Paris ? Emil
  10. Vic, could you share your memories/impressions about the Bill Barron Quartet and their performances at the Jazzhus Montmarte a litle bit more in detail ? R Emil
  11. After doing some research Cool Music seems to be a German Company (formerly distributed by ZYX) - omitting the four Fontana`s there are no other jazz titles in their "catalogue"........so at least seemingly these are not japanese Reissues....... Do own some of the Original Fontana LP`s and all of the Japanese Reissues LP`s , but would not mind to have this as quality CD Reissues....
  12. seem to be still available via jazzmessenger.com , f.i ted curson "urge" http://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/64295/ted-curson/urge having said that, the label is called "cool music" - pretty unheard to me as japanese reissue label until now...........
  13. Is there a list of the recently reissued titles - myself being probably too dumb finding these on subject Red Records Site..........
  14. Take this one - it's a cheap issue, but that group is excellent! Second that - stylish performances for sure.
  15. 1) another vote for proper Xanadu reissues 2) another vote for proper HORO releases and, as already mentioned recently in another forum : 3) bobby jones benefiz konzert http://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/...rom_Burghausen
  16. Otto Klemperer Philharmonia Orchestra from 1955 and as previously mentioned Karl Böhm Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra from the 70`s
  17. Some personal favourites (beneath the already mentioned Richter and Lupu) Austrian pianist Gilbert Schuchter - more or less complete Schubert (Tudor, unfortunately out of print) Rafael Oroszco 960 (Auvidis Valois, out of print) Rudolf Serkin 840, 859 and 960 (Sony) and as a real "dark horse", Karl Betz performs an excellent D960 (Christophorus) and some marvellous "Ländler" (Koch Schwann) .......... actually did I mention Fritz Gulda ;-)) ?!?!?!
  18. Quote I guess, but will want the trio (though I've got to double check about that first, too).Unquote Buy with confidence, this Trio session is marvellous and didn`t surface before on Cd level. (Oddly) three great Boland-Woode/Clarke tracks stemming from a different session - being featured on the REARWARD CD Johnny Griffin "Griff`n bags" are not included - depriving the new Cd of the "Complete Bloand Trio recordings" status....but we should settle for what we got ;-)) Enjoy the Cd+Liebe Grüße Emil PS Reposting this as my first post "didn`t make it"......in case the original post turns up later I would ask the admin for "clearence " ;-)9
  19. The impeccable Mr. Samson Francois and his achievements reg Debussy are worth acquiering for sure http://www.amazon.de/The-Debussy-Recordings-Samson-Fran%C3%A7ois/dp/B007G3HAAM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377680366&sr=8-1&keywords=samson+francois+debussy and also Friedrich Gulda`s try on Preludes (by the way a fabulous MPS production from the late 60`s) are near to my heart http://www.amazon.de/Preludes-Ga-Friedrich-Gulda/dp/B000MR9BTC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377680714&sr=8-1&keywords=gulda+debussy
  20. Don`t know about the Brahms Piano Sonatas specifically, but Zimerman was VERY sensitive (picky ?) about his recordings and was in the position to force DG to withdraw some of these..attached pls find a part of an interview (unfortunately only in german), where he talks about a recording with Karajan he didn`t want to be released at at all...and so it happened.... Dann habe ich mich hingesetzt und gedacht "And now, kill me". Er hat geschwiegen und gesagt: "Gut, spielen wir das noch einmal". Es passieren selbst im Klassik-Markt noch Wunder. Frankfurter Allgemein Sonntagszeitung 12.2.2006
  21. Recently re-listened to Eric Kloss "In the Land of the Giants" on Prestige feat the already forementioned "dreamteam" B. Ervin-J. Byard-R. Davis-A. Dawson............................Loved it.
  22. On a slightly more unexpected appearance, Ricky Ford has some terrific solos on Kip Hanrahan`s second album from 1983, released on his American Clave Label and titled "Desire develops an edge"...............btw same applies to John Stubblefield.......
  23. His recordings with Booker Ervin are very important to me. Furthermore, I really like his ferocious playíng on Hannibal Marvin Peterson`s Muse outing from 1972 titled "Epistropy&Now`s the Time". A friend of mine who witnessed subject concert mentioned that Richard Davis had his fingers bleeding after the gig.......
  24. Have to second the strong recommendation reg. the Schuppanzigh performances. Slightly off-topic, more marvelous playing by them is to be heard on two CD`s with the Ferdinand Ries String Quartets - released on the German JPC label with a more than decent asking price !!!
  25. Group feat two bassists : Woody Shaw - Blackstone Legacy Clint Houston - Ron Carter Contemporary For the purists : Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen & Sam Jones Duo Steeplechase And even more than 2 bassplayers : Bass Violin Choir - Bassically yours Fred Hopkins, Phil Bowler, Gregory Maker, Rufus Reid, Brian Smith and Bob Cunningham Black Saint
