JACKY SAMSON "Indian" (George Arvanitas "Live in Concert" Futura) - a real "left fielder" blossoming considerably within this trio..... ARILD ANDERSEN "Song For Joy" (Sheila Jordan+Arild Andersen "Sheila" Steeplechase)
-
GEORGE JOYNER aka JAMIL NASSER "Bogota" LARRY RIDLEY "Sketch of Melba" btw as obviously being a bass fanatic, I was hoping this thread would be mainly about specific bass performances (like obviously stated by the thread initiator) giving the reader a chance to (re)search these - and not turn into another name dropping rundown....just my 5 pence worth....

Hadn't seen that quote before. Sounds absurd to me also. I've only heard Ron Carter on recordings, so perhaps my opinion isn't a fair one, but he never struck me as having a big sound. I'm not exactly sure what he means by "more authority", but I'll take Jimmy Garrison over Carter if I had to choose. agreed....anytime.

Here we go...but overall IMO Dave Holland was in live settings much more impressive than via his records.....

Although this label didn`t maintain a high standard reg their productions overall, I believe Black&Blue`s "John Hardee - A little Blue - The definitive Black&Blue Sessions" features some excellent perfomances by the late John Hardee.....

i beleive you should go with the Pro-Ject Carbon and if feasible, invest into an cartridge upgrade (I believe the "standard" Carbon cartridge is OM 10 oder 2M red) so you could substantially improve with a Denon....

I`m in general not too fond of box sets, as freed myself from the completist turkey quite some time ago. But case I do buy some, I would stick to points 1-3 mentioned by "mikeweil" in post #2 and add at least documenting the original cover art individual bonus tracks (aka not multiple alternates from the same track and NO false starts...) transfer quality (if there`s a choice) -
Kind of Blue - Mostly Other People Do the Killing

Actually I didn`t speak about or compared with Classical Music generally.....but again there are recordings/performances where an individual interpretation is hardly recognizable and the final result in the end is very near note-to-note....... -
Kind of Blue - Mostly Other People Do the Killing
soulpope replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in New Releases
This may be an interesting project to be pursued in general - but the only usp of the finished product (aka the product to be sold) depends on the question, whether the same music (note-by-note) performed by different artists sounds ....differently ? BTW see no reason, why people should feel frustrated/offended, as there is no obligation to buy this product....and at the same time, this project`s approach is at least not light years away from the one or other classical music production`s.... -
one of the excellent "late" Bill Hardman outings !!
