  1. That's the one I got. Comparing it last night to other performances on Spotify and elsewhere (there are several), this one seems to me to be miles ahead -- for the conducting (those crucial orchestral surges early on, for instance) as well as for the great Blachut. from the couple of existing recording this is quite interesting - but compared to the 1965 it`s probably a little faint-hearted...and of course there is no Blachut.....another reason making it worth a mention is the IMO more interesting original 1927 version of the "Glagolitic Mass" (this is another worthy effort by the Janacek Foundation and it`s chairman Mr. Zahradka to bring to the fore the original versions of Janacek`s euvre, which underwent a lot of changes by Janacek himself and to a much larger extent by third parties following Janacek`s death).......here IMO the rather subtle orchestral approach works in the performance`s favour....
  2. was contemplating to buy the release too - how did you like subject cd`s sound ? I bought this less than an hour ago. sorry, suspected already a delivered item - if remembering pls post a short comment in the Blue Note SHM-CD later.......

  6. Well, all Miles titles I ordered are in and I have changed my position somewhat. Some of the blu-spec2s use 2006 DSD mastering. Others use masterings from 2000 & 2001. There are clear differences in the choices Mark Wilder made for the Japanese market in the early 2000s and 2006, and in 2009 and later for the US/EU market. There is really not a bad disc among these blu-spec2s or in TCCAC, but in some cases I do have a clear preference. The most unexpected are the 2006 remasters which are very much toned down in the highs and less loud compared to Wilder's late nineties/early 2000s work. So much so, that by 2009s TCCAC the highs seem less rolled off than in 2006. The E.S.P. blu-spec2 is the one 2006 DSD remaster among the titles I bought, but I also listened to a FLAC rip on CD-R of the 2006 DSD remaster of Someday My Prince Will Come. The 2006 DSD of Wilder's Bitches Brew remix I listened to (FLAC rip) is much less loud than the blu-spec2 (2000 remaster) and also the 2009 40th Anniversary. (TCCAC uses the original mix.) Then there is the case of the superb MFSL hybrid SACDs which are all winners, some using quite differing original mixes. thnx for sharing your impressions - could you be a little more specific reg your listening experiences reg Miles Smiles, Sorcerer and Nefertiti (aka masters used - are these the 20Bit Mark Wilder remasters featured in Miles Davis Quintet 1965-'68: The Complete Columbia Studio Recordings and loudness etc) ? Miles Smiles: 2000 remaster (*) Sorcerer: 2001 remaster (*) Nefertiti: 2001 remaster (*) http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Mastersound.html According to the above link to Losin's site these were all DSD remasters. Comparing a track or two from each release to the metal spine set these are not a great departure from the set you already have. I gave them a somewhat superficial listen on headphones, but loudness & sound are about the same. I would not recommend getting these blu-spec2s if you have the US/EU SBM releases as single discs or in the metal spine box. The similarities could be explained by Wilder's preferences at that point in time. Since TCCAC is OOP and no longer available at bargain price I would only recommend anyone getting some of the MFSL hybrid SACDs if they want (radically) different sounding remasters of familiar material. And these MFSLs surely sound as good as it will get. thnx for the in-depth explanation/clarification !! EDIT : As I saw these in the net as "Pre-orders" , were these three (*) already released as MFSL Hybrid SACD`s ?
  7. Otherwise not on my radar, Bob Bowman plays here a hell of a bass (try "Central Park North" as taster) to keep this wild bunch going (together)....still not been released as CD, me believe.....
  8. sorry, couldn`t resist ........ btw wonder if this one qualifies :
  9. The single version or the later album version with the restored verse? Paul, as it`s being the voice of Sam Cooke providing this intense feeling of consolation, freedom and light......it would not make a difference...
  10. this is most likely the best recording of Janacek`s "Vecne Evangelium", Supraphon assembled a top notch cast and Beno Blachut is...an ICON !! ps for the time being some copies in seemingly decent condition are floating around on Ebay........
  11. My choice : Sam Cooke "A Change Is Gonna Come" everything is in there - like a 3.11 movie of someone`s life - rather by chance one of the final scenes in Spike Lee`s (in)famous Malcolm X movie (aka Denzel Washington`s face during his cabdrive to Malcom`s final destination) deepened this view, as these pictures come to my mind regurarly....

  16. indeed - actually they performed the remaining piano concerti (with a 4th pianist !!) and symphonies the day before, so it was sort of a Prokofiev "all-in" package which left me and most of the other spectators after more than 3 hours (including two rather short breaks) completely exhausted, by soaked by the urgency of subject music ......as mentioned the performances on day 2 (missed unfortunately day 1) were impressive and also worked as sort of a massive plug for Prokofiev`s Symphonis and Piano Concertos, most of which rarely make it (at least) in to Viennese/Austrian concert halls...
