If the Organissimo board remains active we are better off. I haven't had this much fun since my initial discovery of the BNBB!
-
Thanks. You and your brother are providing an excellent service with this page. I believe this is the best jazz-discussion site on the internet. :rsmile:

Maybe I missed it in an earlier post? But, Use3D, man, who are you? I remember you posting on this board from its very early stages (like, just a week or so ago?). A couple of nights it was only you and I keeping the board active into the wee hours. I remember you entering a post saying that you didn’t know much about the subject on this board but you thought the people were cool. I just noticed, yesterday, that you’re a moderator on the board. I’m not complaining. Whatever you’ve been doing, it’s been great so far! B) Were you on the BNBB and I simply never noticed? Are you a friend of b3-er? Or what?

AfricaBrass: You're good with the artwork. I enjoyed Norah Jones with the moustache.

Hey! Maybe my life isn’t as dull, after work, as I thought it was? I’m not married so I can do whatever I want. Unfortunately, sometimes what I want is to be with that ‘special someone.’ It seems you always want what you don’t have. I purchased a new laptop last Thanksgiving. When I’m at home the internet is nearly ‘my life.’ The computer is on the kitchen counter when I’m in the kitchen and on the cushion beside me when I’m on the couch. I even use the damn thing, monitoring this board, right before I go to bed at night. Sad? I go running three nights per week, eat dinner at my parent’s house one night per week, then visit a long-time friend, usually for dinner, on Friday nights. It seems I’ve used 5 nights of the week but the routine has become dull, nevertheless. Jazz and the internet are the highlights of my life. B)

An excellent point about a dreary dark day. I agree completely. The more it rains the better the jazz sounds. Except, I live in Tucson so dreary days are few and far between.

Are these remasters (with the K2 process)?

How can I edit stupid sounding Thread titles?

But, my goal is to bother the moderator as little as possible in regard to board maintenance. B) Wait, are you a board moderator now? Have you always been? Just wondering... -

I have the same dumb (at least, dumb to me) question but didn't want to bother b3-er with it. I assume he's already busy enough with this site. In spite of this, maybe we'll get an answer/solution out of him. I did purchase his Boogaloo CD. -
I looked at the Russell yesterday at Borders. Is it the one that, on the back, says it will be issued till a certain day in the year 2006?
-
Yes. It is! This board shows how rustic the BNBB software really was.

I keep figuring the BNBB was not important enough, to Blue Note, for the company to give it the slightest bit of thought, positive or negative. Conversely, it was important enough for Blue Note to limit it, and then shut it down completely. Blue Note holds a high spot in jazz history, for sure. I like the music, the history, the ambiance of RVG, and the album art (Blue Note had the best album art). Unfortunately, I’m describing the Blue Note of old. The modern version of Blue Note is simply a brand name tied to the EMI conglomerate. I’ll continue to purchase the Blue Note product because I like it. However, the days of Lion, Wolff and RVG are only a distant memory.

Do People With Big Heads Scare You?
wesbed replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Do you mean people who have big heads physically? Or, people who have big heads mentally? -
I want to see the toe!

I live in Tucson and I'm a night person. I tend to stay up late every night (usually waaaaaay too late) playing on the computer and listening to jazz. Tucson is on Mountain time during the winter and Pacific time during the summer. Yeah, go figure that one out. No matter what time I log-in to this board, SOMEBODY is posting/reading, whatever. Like JSngry wrote, in another post, this (Organissimo) is a great after-hours hangout. When do you sleep?

ROBOTICONS RULE! ROBOTICONS RULE! ROBOTICONS RULE!
wesbed replied to JSngry's topic in Forums Discussion
See what you started? Now we'll require a Hank Mobley smiley, and a Wayne Shorter smiley, and an Art Blakey smiley, etc. Hey, could be get a Greg smiley? -
I will listen to jazz at any given time of the day. However, the music speaks more clearly and more personally to me at night. It seems more like ‘night music’ for sure. When I’m in my car during the day I might play Steely Dan, early Dire Straits, Phish, Galactic, or MMW. When the sun sets, though, it’s time for the genuine jazz article… Sonny Rollins, Monk, Hank Mobley, Horace Silver, etc.. At night, the horns & piano sound crisper and the drums & bass bang deeper. I can hear all kinds of nuances and detail under the light of darkness as compared to the light of day. Often, when listening to jazz at night, I wonder why I hear little details that I’d never have heard while the sun was shining. Anybody else experience the same?

One positive I do see to this is... Hopefully Mosaic can/will sell enough product to be profitable and continue to issue top-quality jazz boxes so I can keep buying 'em. :rsly:

Wesbed, Why stop? You're doing fine. No reason to go back to lurking. Oh. I don't intend to stop. This has been quite an enjoyable experience, to watch this board grow from the ground up. B) However, once the 'heavies' get to posting their usual stuff, they'll surpass me even if I maintain my current rate. Which is a good thing, I'm not complaining. I'm rather enjoying it, actually. We didn't have a Top Ten list to watch at the old board (we all knew Lon had the 10,000 posts!). The added information on this board is a welcomed.
-
The same for me. It's been fun being in the Top Ten Poster's list. But, my days are numbered. My name will be dropping off soon. Still, I accomplished what I wanted... to keep the board active till the real board posters arrived. I mean, JSngry, Swinnich, and jazzbo are active now. B)

I wanted a copy of the thread that Ron McMaster replied to. No, I'm not being a smartass regarding McMaster. Really, I'd like to be able to re-read what he wrote. Damn Blue Note management.
-
Hmmm... the other things Tommy Boy said were coming, new forums, old forums with a different look, never returned. Just, more was taken away. No more private messages, no images, no quotes, and a language filter that made Blue Note look ignorant as hell. I mean, a jazz board that filters out Sonny S***t (wait, did Stitt ever record on Blue Note)? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

The Desmond/Hall box was my very first Mosaic. I purchased the box brand new from Mosaic, way back when. I didn’t purchase another Mosaic set till I discovered the BNBB and subsequently purchased the Hank Mobley box. Along with Walter Becker & Donald Fagan, my introduction to ‘real’ jazz was from Dave Brubeck & Paul Desmond. I couldn’t get over the sound of Desmond’s saxophone. Nobody sounded like Desmond. I usually find the Desmond/Hall box at the bottom of my stack of Mosaics. When I do pull it out I always wonder why it’s been so long since the last time. Desmond and Hall were meant for each other. They both play with a subtle intensity that can’t be explained. If Paul Desmond played the guitar he’d sound like Jim Hall. If Jim Hall played the saxophone he’d sound like Paul Desmond. The Desmond/Hall box full of enchantment and delight. Each player complements the other to create a very personal, private, yet free sound. Some of the playing is so delicate and so powerful it can snap your mind straight into a trance-like state if you’re not careful. Didn’t Paul Desmond say he played saxophone like a dry martini?

Ed Swinnich. Finally, in the house! Man, where ya been?
